The city and dates for Eurvision are announced tomorrow at 11am UK time. Anyone thinking of heading to the final? I reserved 2 rooms in Rotterdam, back in May so am hoping that it wins over Maastricht..and that it's on the weekend of 15-17th May. If it's another weekend I probably can't be bothered trying to re-book. But as my mate is dithering about going, there could be a room available for someone out there if they fancy joining me for the 65th songfest!

You’re a fan then... 👍
How are the tix for the actual real final (not all that preamble semi final stuff) allocated? Do normal people (not in fan clubs etc) even have a chance of getting one?
I don’t want to go, I bailed out when Mary Spiteri didn’t win 🙂 I’m just curious.

I don’t want to go, I bailed out when Mary Spiteri didn’t win 🙂 I’m just curious. I am a fan, although not quite a fanatic! My mother always says that as she was being wheeled to the delivery room to let me out on the world, that Puppet on a String was playing somewhere in the hospital! That could explain a lot, about a lot! It's very much a lottery. I went to the 60th show in Vienna, and tried desperately to get a ticket through the official site without success. The final sells out crazy fast as you would expect, even though they split the ticket sales into 2 dates, several months apart. I ended up buying on a resale site for about 3 times face value, although they were good seats and thankfully, genuine. The other way is to join one of the official Eurovision fan clubs (there is one in the UK) and they receive an limited allocation of, I believe, standing tickets for the pit. However, I have passed the age where standing for 4 hours is fun! I was checking prices for the last few years, and last year top price as about 415 euros! To be honest, I'm thinking twice now, although it is a great show to attend.

Well the official Eurovision website inadvertently released a webpage for 'Rotterdam 2020' but didn't provide dates. We'll know tomorrow.
The Eurovision fan clubs (OGAE) get varying amounts of tickets - there is no obligation for the hosting broadcaster to make any tickets available to OGAE - sometimes they provide loads because they want lots of fans there and sometimes they don't provide any. The tickets vary, sometimes they are only standing tickets, but sometimes there's a split between standing and seated. This year's tickets were extraordinarily expensive, they're normally a bit cheaper than that, but OGAE fan packages usually include both semifinals and all the public rehearsals, so you are paying for six shows. Every time I've been at Eurovision it's been on OGAE tickets, and only once I've had to stand (I'd be reluctant to do that again, these are very long nights). Also worth mentioning is that OGAE UK usually has a multi-tier system to prioritise people who don't just join when they know that Eurovision is going to be in a nice place - so if you fancy going to Eurovision 2021, you are better joining OGAE UK prior to the 2020 contest, because they'll want to prioritise long term members.
I've done four Eurovisions, and hope to go to the Netherlands next year, but we'll see.

Thanks for the additional information on OGAE and tickets, David. I keep meaning to join and then let it slip by. Hope you get to the Netherlands next year!

When I went to Eurovision at Copenhagen I got to the final through the general sale but I should imagine that involved a great deal of luck!
And good luck David! Hope it all works out for you.

I’m off to my first ever Eurovision this year, we have tickets for the Grand Final jury show. I’m very excited. We booked our hotel for Rotterdam but it was strangely cheap compared to everywhere else. People who booked one hotel have had their bookings cancelled and the rooms readvertised at stupid prices so hoping this doesn’t happen to me.

Well done! Tickets through the public sale seem to have been tough to get this year as OGAE got a large allocation, and they’re giving cheap tickets to Rotterdam residents although I think there’s one more public release to go. I got my tickets through OGAE so I’ll be at the semis and final, and possibly done if the jury shows too. I was lucky in that I think I got the last reasonably priced hotel room in Rotterdam, even looking not the vast majority are €500 or more a night. A lot of people are talking about staying in Amsterdam or The Hague and relying on late night trains.

As I can't be there for all the semi's and the final I didn't try for OGAE this year, so I'm still holding out [praying] for a couple of last chance seated grand finals in the third wave sale. OGAE also tend to be standing in the arena and even though I lucked out in general sale for a golden circle ticket to the grand final in Lisbon, it nearly killed me: I just can't stand in a crush for five plus hours. That said I'm still going and I've booked a hotel and taking the Eurostar from St Pancras direct to Rotterdam. There's also a viewing party on the night at the Luxor theatre in Rotterdam so I've booked some tickets for that just in case and will soak up the Rotterdam atmosphere and worst-case watch it sitting down in a theatre on a large screen. So excited for everyone going to an actual show though: after being lucky to go to the grand final in Stockholm 2016 and Lisbon 2018, everyone going to an actual show will have a blast. Rotterdam is probably the closest Eurovison's been to the UK in a long time so I had to go one way or another :-)

Eurovision announcement coming tonight? An announcement for an announcement. Yay... However we now know that the UK act will be announced on Thursday and Radio 1 is involved in the announcement so I’m feeling positive.

I've joined OGAE this year after getting my Eurovision tickets so I could join their private facebook group and see the posts from other people going. How do their allocation of tickets work, are you buying a package deal for all the shows or do they sell them individually?

OGAE tickets are normally for six shows - the three live TV shows and the three jury equivalents which take place the previous evenings. You usually can't sell the tickets on for individual performances so you have to buy the full set. For example this year the OGAE tickets were €799 for six shows - I understand that everyone who wanted seated packages got them in the end as there were enough people that dropped out when the prices were announced.
Worth repeating though that the allocation of tickets is entirely at the whim of the hosting TV broadcaster and each year OGAE might get loads of tickets, or none. Next year might be very different depending where we end up...

It's James Newman. No, I've never heard of him either!

James Newman has co-written a load of songs for other well known acts and has been chosen by BMG for the Eurovision gig. But he doesn't really seem to have performed much in his own right.
I think our days of entering a serious act into Eurovision are long gone, just go for something diverse and fun. In the UK it is mainly seen as almost a Pride like celebration so just put up someone suitably fabulous.

I like it, although the beginning sounds like Azerbaijan's entry, Truth, last year.
I think it needs a bigger break or middle 8, but it's a big step up from our last few entries.
