Am creating this because all of the Funny Girl thread is starting to become simply a discussion about Sheridan that is getting out of hand. So anything to do with Sheridan regarding press, twitter, her personal life etc... here is your place to discuss it. Don't clog up the Funny Girl thread with negativity about her. I can understand if you are simply saying she is missing a performance due to illness over there etc, but the other comments are not needed for that thread.

The first show I saw Sheridan Smith in was Legally Blonde. She was extremely good in it, and thoroughly deserved the Olivier award. I next saw her in Flare Path, and my immediate thought was that it was a shame she'd won the Olivier the previous year for Legally Blonde, because THIS performance was an absolute masterpiece of quiet depth and perfect reactions in what was a very well-written and touching role, but one that could easily have been outshone by other performances if played even a little too broadly. And then she won the award for that too! Sometimes I'm not entirely sure what the brains behind the Olivier awards are thinking, but in the case of Sheridan Smith, they've got it right.
I also thought she was utterly tremendous in that one episode of Inside Number 9, but I'm not that up on the rest of her TV career, so hey.

Join in, buddy! If the Funny Girl thread refuses to get nicer, let's have our own nice thread here! Have you seen Sheridan live on stage? Do you have a particularly fond memory of any of her performances? Would you strongly recommend any of her film or TV work to someone who's looking to catch up?

I wouldn't particularly describe myself as a Sheridan fan, but I've loved her in everything I've seen her in: Flare Path, Hedda Gabler, Inside No. 9, and now Funny Girl. I haven't sought out things to watch purely based on her presence (I've no interest in seeing the TV show about the lady with cancer, for instance) but she strikes me as a versatile and talented performer.

I first saw her in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and she was great! The show was so long ago, so I don't remember it that well, but I remember thinking it was a 5-star. I have a picture of when I met her at stage door after the show and she was wearing a Mike Wazowski (from Monsters, Inc.) costume. She was heading to a fancy dress party. She was so lovely! Then saw her in Funny Girl in which she was also stunning. I haven't seen Glenn Close, so don't know who's better out of those two, but apart form that Sheridan deserves an award for the performance! She was a stunning actress, a stunning singer, a stunning dancer and had impeccable comic timing. What else could you want from a leading lady? She was once again so nice at stage door. Told her I'd seen her in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and she was in that costume. I asked her about her talking dog and she said that she was now teaching him not to talk because he won't stop LOL! She said she's planning to most more of her dog and I said that sadly I wouldn't be able to see the new footage of the dog due to her account being protected. She then told me to send her a tweet so she could know which is my Twitter account. The next day she followed me! Still can't see her account because you have to be following her to do that, but so thrilled I was followed!  |

The obvious for me is two projects... Funny Girl and The C Word. Both of which she is incredible in and deserves the recognition she is getting regarding critical reception. She truly is one of the best British Actresses we have and will undoubtedly have a long and lustrous career following her run in Funny Girl.  |

Have only seen her in Funny Girl which I adored at the Menier.
After I'd seen that I caught up on Mrs Biggs - excellent series, and she (and Daniel Mayes) were terrific. I've got Cilla to watch still.. And of course the Christmas Cracker, which was just lovely.
Haven't seen The C Word; I'd come across the CoppaFeel ladies recently, through their website found out about Lisa Lynch and The C Word, really sorry I missed it (might see if I can get a copy somewhere). With her brother dying from cancer when she was a child, to her father now diagnosed, I really do feel for her, and I'm sure if she'd won on Sunday night we'd have heard a great speech.
So, onto Funny Girl. I'm staying away from the FG thread as it's so bashing it's boring. But without Sheridan it wouldn't have extended to October. I doubt it would have gone to the Savoy without Sheridan. I've seen Natasha as Fanny - she's good, she's very good, but Sheridan is just electric in the role. I saw Natasha in Lend Me A Tenor too, which I saw 3 times as I loved it. Not saying she isn't a talent, but saying Sheridan is a star.

What an absolute breath of fresh air this thread is!
I saw Sheridan perform for the first time live in Legally Blonde all those years ago! I had seen her in Two Pints, used to love watching that on Paramount TV in the middle of the night, again all those years ago lol! Anyway moving on from the reminiscing, I then saw her in Flare Path, Hedda and Midsummers. As well as many of her tv and film works.
I think she is an incredibly talented actress and very versatile, I loved her playfulness in LB and then the beautiful emotion she portrayed in both Flare Path and Hedda. I'll be honest Midsummer wasn't really my thing and I did only go and see it because she was in it, her performance was brilliant in it, but I was so bloody lost in the story and language the rest sort of went over my head lol!
I saw Funny Girl 3 times at the Menier and loved her performance, then seeing it back at the Savoy brought back loads of happy memories, she was back to the playful girl I loved in LB but still had the emotion to perform the role perfectly.
I always love to see her after the show, she is such a lovely person, so grateful and caring and down to earth, she is very much a 'girl next door' and very likeable. I think that is why her fans feel so passionate to defend her at the moment, she genuinely cares, she takes time to speak with everyone and as you get to know her she doesn't just ask if you enjoyed the show, she will ask about your life and families.
So yea basically there's my little trip down memory lane

I met her for the first time after a show recently and thought she was very genuine and lovely, taking time to speak to everyone and there was many, many people there as you can imagine. This was just after the "drunk" stories and the day after the Stage Door had been swamped by paps. It would have been so very easy and totally understandable if she had decided to leave the theatre by another exit. She chose not to.

I went to see the Domnar production of Into The Woods and really knew nothing about Sheridan at the time. However I remember how good she was at the time. It must have been pretty early on in her career.

I really like Sheridan, she is one of those people I just can't get enough of. A fantastic actress and comedienne, great singer and musical theatre star too. She just has a charisma and charm about her very few possess. |
