Worth mentioning this guy had a formal last written warning months and months ago, prior to the closing announcement shenanigans. Who would hire this guy?!

So good luck Rodney, Isaac and Danny Bayne when they next audition for a role. What did CFH say in that Instagram post was it fans keeping her talking too long, following her, distrubing private moments, invading personal space? I'm not sure about a post, but I heard through the grapevine that there was some drama at stage door at the weekend where someone chased Carrie down the street or something, but I'm not sure of the details so don't quote me on that!

I disagree; nothing that ALW or RUG have done is out of the ordinary. The decision to close the show was made - the cast obviously weren't told straight away. Things started happening in the background, again, normal things. Front of house staff and the actors couldn't keep their noses out of things that don't concern them, which essentially leaked the show closing and forced RUG to make a rushed announcement. If everyone was doing what they should have been doing, then none of this would have happened. It comes down purely to entitlement: like look at the Strallen live stream, FoH staff literally signing on to complain about the fact they were digging where they shouldn't have been. Many shows do worse: announce extensions knowing fine well they're closing, giving the cast false hope, etc, only to close before their initial closing date. It's literally common practice in the industry. Personally, I just wish that RUG used the clause in their contracts about bringing their employer into dispute and got rid of idiots like Rodney. I mean, hell, even CHF has been pretty quiet about it... If you think ALW's hands are clean then you're naive. The man's been more of a hindrance to his own show for many months and while the closing announcement may have been forced on him and RUG, a lot of things could have been handled better beforehand.

I think its a clash of egos from both ends. Cast members who maybe aren't used to be criticised or told what to do, and ALW being, well ALW

I seriously wonder how all of this social media slander will affect his employability going forward. I don't know how employers will view him. But I'd avoid a show with him as any kind of lead, after all this. I don't need to spend my evening wondering if the person whose performance I'm trying to enjoy is going to go home and complain publically about hating his job, displaying his contempt for anyone who bought a ticket.

LOL I love how obsessed people on this thread are with performers' social media posts. I always pop in for all the bitching on an online forum about people bitching about their jobs on social media. There are more posts about that than the actual show. And before people jump down my throat, I am not complaining, I find it very entertaining and definitely infinitely more entertaining than the show itself was. So keep it up... :-)

You don't see Sonia Friedman, Nica Burns etc openly slagging off casts of their shows.

If you mean the Insta story I posted, it was Carrie asking everyone to queue politely and please wait their turn and don't get annoyed if you try and jump the queue and she asks you to wait like everyone else.

Very much this. And when performers are making audience members feel uncomfortable being/having been there, there is something very wrong here.

Ok, but c'mon, it's a job, that's exactly what it is. All a performer has to be is good at it. Who cares if they hate it and or even publicly say they hate it if, while you're watching them on stage, they are giving you a good performance? Whatever ticket you buy entitles you to a professional performance, not for the performer to think that the sun shines out of their employer's backside or that this is the best show they have ever done in their life? If someone's online posts has this kind of impact on your enjoyment of a show, then maybe don't follow any performers on social media?

No one's asking performers to rave about the show/their employer, just for them not to publicly hold their audience in utter contempt. It would make me extremely uncomfortable, of course I can vote with my wallet by not going to see them in that case and I will do so in future. Although I've actually enjoyed Cinderella, I have seen a few shows recently where the absolute joy coming off the stage was palpable, it makes a difference. Maybe not for the average theatre goer, maybe we're a little too invested in this sort of thing instead of taking a step back, but you know what... we're also the ones buying our tickets on repeat, and in the current climate alienating your audience is not wise.

I don’t know anyone in regular careers who goes on line to vent about their jobs though. Yes they might post about being tired, or their shift pattern or whatever but slagging off the company they work for? No! And one reason for that might be that the obvious response is “leave then”.
Some of these kids don’t seem to know when to stop performing. Never enough attention for them it seems, so they’re showing off on SM after they’ve come off stage. The shady comments, the look at me in my swimming costume pics.. seriously give it a bleedin’ rest.

Exactly. Imagine if they interacted with someone in a public facing role, and then that person moaned about them or their demographic online.
Yes it does happen in other sectors, and what happens, people are reprimanded or fired.
Why the arts think they are above everyone else I don't know. Especially after the last two years.

Ok, the look at me in my swimming costume pics is just a social media thing, I see just as much of that from people on my feed that aren't performers. And I see plenty of bitching about people's jobs and customers on social media all the time. Obviously those people don't have lots of theatre fans following them or lots of customers from the supermarket they work in or whatever, but social media is full of that stuff. That is literally what most people use it for, to vent and post pretty pictures of themselves. :-)

If someone's online posts has this kind of impact on your enjoyment of a show, then maybe don't follow any performers on social media? They can think what they like, but if they post it on an account linked to their professional name, it will affect how people feel about them and their performance. Yes, it's a job. One of the things I do for a living is train people. I spend the training sessions being bright and breezy as though this is the thing I enjoy more than anything. If I went onto my social media account, either personal or professional, and posted something along the lines of "Ugh, counting down to when I can stop doing this", and it got back to the people I was training on that day, how do you think they'd feel about the conversations we'd had? Or walking into another training session with me? So if I feel the need to complain about it, I do it somewhere not public or linked to my professional self. I don't follow Rodney. If I had, I wouldn't by now. But look - I've now heard all about how he hates his job and has nothing but contempt for the show he's in. I shouldn't have to avoid all message boards and discussion just so someone's online behaviour doesn't impact my enjoyment, performers should behave like professionals in public, the same way other people have to.

Maybe we just have different attitudes then, as long as someone doesn't make me feel bad for attending their place of work and does a professional job whilst I am paying them or am in their place of work, I couldn't care less if they like their job or not or think the company they work for is terrible and they can't wait to get off stage and enjoy their life away from work. I generally expect most people to not like big parts of their job and am jealous of the ones that love most parts of their jobs. :-)

So you want him to say nothing bad, in case you see something said on a messageboard, because that might impact your enjoyment? I don't think any of us feel that what we write about someone on a messageboard could affect their future employment, what we're discussing is that his growing reputation as being someone who openly slanders his employers on a public social media platform could very well do. The theatre world is tiny, things get around very quickly and no one wants to employ a liability. Obviously if Rodney feels he's been mistreated then it's totally valid, but constantly putting it out there on social media for public reaction is a really bad move.

So you want him to say nothing bad, in case you see something said on a messageboard, because that might impact your enjoyment? I want him to behave in the same professional manner expected of people in other lines of work. Not making your customers feel like an imposition is so incredibly basic that I can't believe I even have to say it.
