Despite my earlier comments I’m sure there are systems in place that would prevent some random actor scuppering the performance. I do think it’s a dreadful state of affairs that random actors are on their socials slagging off the employers though. The very people who have been putting food on their table, and paying for their foreign hols for the last year. I’m not suggesting anyone should bowing down, but a salary is not called “compensation “ for nothing. It’s compensation for your time, effort, and having to deal with a degree of 💩 .
Kids today huh 🤷🏻♂️

Let’s move on from the personal stuff please. Keep comments focussed on the show and it’s cast/creatives rather than each other. Thank you. ALW is a knob… is that allowed? If that’s what you think, yes. Because he could stop being one if he wanted.

ALW is a knob… is that allowed? If that’s what you think, yes. Because he could stop being one if he wanted. Far too late to sing a knob song Cinderella's come and gone There's no happy Vubya either He wants away Andy shamed his cast by Zoom call Threw his toys right out the pram Time for Rodder's social media Stick it to the man If they could, they would tell you all their stories How they long to spill their hate Andy's not their mate If they Insta you, if they gobbed off over Twitter They might share a different fate Andy's not their mate Far too late to sing a knob song Andy's brought the curtain down Far too late for second jobbing Show's moving on Far too late to sing a love song If they could, they would somehow tell the cock just What they resolutely think Andy's not their mate If they jeopardise, both the show and their career, what is their fate? Andy's got big mates Far too late to rail at Andy, He's moved on and so should you.

Sounds like someone is tampering with the sets and staging...
Maybe he's planning a Cinderella/Phantom crossover.

I’ve been thinking over it and it was mid scene. The only thing it could have been was the fire! Surely they could have just turned that off without a show stop? And what was the 10 minutes of curtains down for? I need to know 😂

Eventually saw this tonight. Had alternate Cinderella (refuse to pay a premium to see CHF!!). Enjoyed it, actually! There is a really good show in there somewhere…

Everything was fine during last night's evening performance. No show stop. The start of act 2 is pretty dead... sad ballad after sad ballad after sad ballad. It did pick up, but it feels the ending is really abrupt and anti-climatic?
There are some really decent moments and decent songs in there, though. I genuinely think that with a LND-style rework, this would be pretty great, actually. Georgina Onuorah was wonderful and deserves so much more credit!
Complete side note, but following on from the earlier discussion, I still genuinely fail to see what ALW has done wrong, if I'm honest. It's quite clear from cast reactions on social media that they are prone to extreme hyperbole (that video of the girl telling her mum and then the mum acting like her only child just died... honestly...)

Having only the recording to go on, I agree with you. Especially with the LND comparison. To me, there's a lot more musically I like in Cinderella than I did in LND. But the pacing does feel a bit off. If the NY production does materialize I hope they really revisit and give it a fresh new look and not stick with it only needing some tweaks here and there

So after a year of no stage door at Cinderella . It’s obviously now ‘allowed’ as CHF timeline is flooded with photos of her hugging everyone and their dog. Seems the last bastion of anyone giving a damn over at the Gillian Lynne has well and truly fallen as it limps into its final weeks. Perhaps the plan is to shut the show if they all get Covid. Cheaper.

Cheaper. I saw that and thought it was weird as last week she answering questions on Insta and she said then that it wasn't allowed. Can't remember the exact words but it was along the lines of "other shows are allowed to do it but we've been told we can't" which came across as another dig at ALW

I've seen many stage door photos with various members of the cast on socials, for quite a while, I assumed it was personal discretion (perhaps with a 'we'd rather you didn't but...' from above?).

I believe they were saying that they’d sign things and do photos, but nothing too close, like hugging. Not sure why they’d hug random people anyway, but whatever.

Loads of posts of CHF hugging various strangers. Personally I think the whole concept of hugging complete unknown randoms is not only very odd but risky behaviour. For some though it seems to provide validation that they’re popular/adored which I guess is more important than safety or protecting the show. Think at this point the production team are like do what the hell you all want, see ya never again

Her first picture says "STAGE DOOR IS BACK!" which did give me glorious mental images of them all climbing out through a window for the last year.

I am not talking about Cinderella here but as someone who really enjoyed going to the stage door after performances pre covid, it's been pretty infuriating to see so many photos from stage door meetings, especially those taken next to signs saying stage door is closed.
I know some super fans think these rules cannot possibly apply to them but a swift "I am really sorry but we are not allowed" would have been the end of it.

If you do a selfie with someone people will often have an arm around each other but doing a physical hug is different. Wasn't CHF off with covid recently so she probably assumes she has antibodies now.

Cinderella still has 3 weeks to run. Seems strange that yesterday it ‘wasn’t allowed’ and today it’s open season.

Out of curiousity I booked a ticket for last night... and then another when my partner could make it too. I have to admit I am a Lloyd-Webber fan... I love the scores of Aspects, Evita, Sunset, Phantom etc. I have been less enamoured by some of his recent efforts but did rather like the Woman in White and Stephen Ward! So I appreciate I might be biased. But I did really enjoy Cinderella... as a fun night out. Post covid having a night of spectacle and humour is welcome and this show more than provides it. Yes, its not perfect, but its very very funny with top notch performances from the queen and step mother, and the staging is strong and at times took my breath away... from row L of the stalls the Ball was fantastic! I really did enjoy ALW's more serious output, but I thoroughly enjoyed this lighter effort, especially the humour which his musicals generally lack. The score is strong too... there's a lot to like with many of the numbers, even if some didn't hit the mark e.g. unbreakable/ I am no longer me/ moment of triumph... and most importantly well matched to the subject matter. So a great night out... would I see it again... probably not. But I feel tbe same for DEH, CFA and BoM, and it is clear ALW wrote to provide surprise and joy rather than an earnest masterpiece. I also thought the performance of the whole cast strong and professional... whatever the drama regarding the closure, what we saw last night was a tour de force of a performance. In case any of the box office staff read this, a huge thank you for allowing my partner and I to sit together, and from much better seats too- appreciated and made for a lovely and memorable night.

Closing night should be interesting. Will ALW be there for speeches? Laurence Connor? What will be said about what can only be put down as a commercial flop.
And if the cast (or most of them) are being guarded now, will it be gloves off after the close? Will we ever find out what really went down behind the scenes?

Apart from the Sunset Patti thing has there ever been any evidence of being black balled in the theatre world? How far is the reach of RUG and ALW?

Apart from the Sunset Patti thing has there ever been any evidence of being black balled in the theatre world? How far is the reach of RUG and ALW? Depends what you mean by blackballed. Everyone has their own list of people they’d never work with, and people gossip and share horror stories. It’s pretty common for CDs, directors and producers, if they’re considering an actor they’ve not worked with before, to call up any names they recognise on that actor’s CV to ask what they were like to work with. On the flip side I know one CD who’s so universally despised he’s barely cast anything other than cornflake commercials in years. Actors just won’t audition for him. The thing about ALW is that he’s widely disliked within the industry and there’s a fair bit of schadenfreude over Cinderella, and the cancellation was handled so poorly, it’s generated sympathy and goodwill for the cast and not much for ALW. Blackballing definitely exists, in terms of people losing opportunities because they get a rep for being difficult. But theatre is such a popularity contest. If the cast were beefing with say Sonia Friedman (who’s well-liked and known to be fair) it’d impact their reps a lot more.

I can imagine ALW is disliked within the industry, some of his comments to the media in recent times have been cringeworthy at best. I know he's essentially been blacklisted but it always surprised me that people wanted to work with Scott Rudin given his well known bullying behaviour long before it became public.

Widely disliked within the industry? That's a big claim.
