What Ive heard... ALW called into dressing room speakers, from his mobile - whilst in Spain, to berate the cast and call them sh*t basically. After a critic from New York gave it a bad review. Not on at all. They didn't write it, did they? All to do with him wanting to take it to Broadway x I heard very similar. Some of it was quite pointed and taken very personally. I wonder who that could be.

So if it was triggered by the scathing review by the NY post. All that basically said was it needed a scythe taking to the running time, the book was underwhelming, the direction was plodding and the costume and set were drab. It actually had words of praise for the cast including the alternate who was on. There seems to be a lot of cast changes for Cinderella lately for a star vehicle starring CHF - she’s been on less and less (not counting hols) with the understudy Lauren going on for two perfs Think all covers and alternate have had a go now. Do we think ALW is trying Cinderellas on for size to see who the shoe fits going forward?

And a bit more
I’ll bet backstage is fun 😳. I hope the cast are ok. The jigsaw coming together doesn’t seem to be painting a very nice picture with the emerging details.
I know people have different views social media and its use ‘in the workplace’ to air views but these thinly veiled posts must be adding to tension after the fact. The production team must be aware of them.

It's not their fault the show is terrible. They're doing the best they can with...nothing.

It's not their fault the show is terrible. They're doing the best they can with...nothing. The book is strange and oddly dated. The jokes aren’t funny. But the UK critics raved. Do you think the trigger for Andy is the thought of it tanking over the pond? The NY review was only last week so the timing seems right.

Got to be the NY Times review.
Especially when he was out for Phantom reopening and telling everyone the show would be open summer 2022 - theatre to be announced soon.
How embarrassing.

How silly to over react to one review (if that's the trigger, which seems likely), when it actually praised the score and the cast. If they're working super-hard to make the show ignite (and twitter reaction nightly suggests they are) then any adjustments are needed in areas the cast have no control over; areas the cast might welcome functioning better of their own accord.
There's a new era in performers now - none of those who've tweeted warm supportive comments about the cast/team around them will be reaching for the delete button, or wishing they hadn't spoken. A lot of young performers would rather walk than take false blame. Frankly there's no single producer or writing team in the ascendancy in the UK who anyone should be scared of, re. their future.

It's a different ball game in the US though - a shows success relies on a rave from the New York Times... If he's getting this before the show has even opened, he may think he's headed for a repeat of Sunset...
(I would KILL for a saga on the scale of Sunset tbh)

Where did the story about what ALW said to the cast come from? I don't believe it for a minute.

I've heard it from two different sources, and if you connect the dots with what Baz tweeted...

The New York Times has never raved about any ALW shows, the opposite in fact. It didn't prevent Phantom or Cats from being hits on Broadway.

That's cool - personally I buy it (the people I heard it from don't spread nonsense).
Broadway is the end goal for this (god help America) and the review will have put a big spanner in that.

I was gonna say it’s almost history repeating itself with the Sunset fiasco, that started with Andy inviting the NY times over to review it in London (after he said he wouldn’t) and then throwing a tantrum and blaming Patti and everyone besides himself when they didn’t like the show. I hope Carrie sues him and gets her own swimming pool out of it LOL
