Saw this tonight - perfect. Its really bedded in well now, and I was very impressed the way the sound is balanced for the front row even in the revolve. I'm sure somebody techie can explain how it's done - the sound seems to follow the actors around the stage. Clever stuff. And thank you to Carrie Hope Fletcher for her lovely wave and smile to my girls at the end. One bugbear. Somebody in the dress circle took two photos with flash at quieter/darker moments - what is it with these selfish bstds? Maybe 1300 people paying a few quid a ticket don't want the moments ruined just for somebody's vacuous instagram post - such people should be banned from theatres until they learn how to behave. I happened to see this article earlier today, re. sound. Should answer your questions, re the difficult task of mics for this show. Also, in a video, CHF showed not only the mic pack in her wig (less disrupted by the costume change) but also the tracking device that's strapped under the wig too, so that her sound can track her movement. www.avinteractive.com/news/audio/rotating-stage-object-based-mixing-debut-west-end-show-01-09-2021/

Selfish and apparently a bit thick if they think using a flash is going to do any good. I would say selfish and a bit thick to do this once. To realise you've lit up the place and then do it a second time...

Saw this tonight - perfect. Oh I wonder what happened, Carrie was still supposed to be on holiday yesterday Was definitely her - interestingly her voice (whilst really great) sounded a little tired/cold, though she sets such a high bar that many probably didn't notice.

Enjoyed this today. Upgraded our £19.50 seats to end of row moving ones earlier in the week as a treat for my son who will be uni bound this time next week. I was indifferent to act one apart from Ivano’s big tune which was the highlight of the show really, but loved act two. The gimmick does make all the difference, and just gives things a bit of a lift, and gives more people the chance to be in the front row. VHB’s voice thing works so much better onstage but there weren’t any weak links in the cast. Loved the sisters. Interesting after reading the article about the sound design that the only slight disappointment was ‘IKIHAH’ which suffered from Carrie wandering around the island stage so that there wasn’t a consistent sound for the whole song. Noticed Gio Spano onstage at the beginning then never saw him again. Did I imagine that?

Selfish and apparently a bit thick if they think using a flash is going to do any good. I was once on holiday and a tour guide was telling people taking pictures of the picturesque town on the other side of the valley that they'd need flash because it was night. There doesn't seem to be any comprehension of what a flash actually does. It's like they think it's a magic spell that allows a camera to work in the dark.
I've seen people using flash to take a picture of the moon.

Love it. Whereas with a flash many cameras will automatically adjust away from low light setting to a high light setting so your pictures will be worse.

From what I gather she lost her timing and messed up her choreo because she couldn't hear her track. The sound isn't always the best at WEL anyway so I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. I think she did well to cover it up considering.

I’m still curious to know what happened to CHF yesterday. I assume that originally, she would have done WEL then done both shows but Georgia Tapp ended up performing in the matinee and evening show. CHF then posted about having an awful day. Yes, the sound at WEL didn’t do her any favours but she seemed energetic on the way there. Maybe it not going perfectly threw her? But then again, being annoyed about a performance isn’t good enough reason to pull out of two shows just hours before… very curious.

They’ve posted a clip on the show’s Instagram of her being interviewed where she acknowledges that people are showing up expecting a Disney-type show and then are like what the hell’s this? I quite enjoyed it, but it is pretty badly mis-sold, with it’s way-too-young age recommendation of 6. I don’t think it looks good to be joking about it when the tickets are so expensive.

Did anyone manage to catch Georgia? Curious how she was.
Odd about CHF going off yesterday, the WEL sound problems not her fault but that really wasn't a good representation of the show - she didn't sound good at all and although I like the show a lot Bad Cinderella is very awkwardly choreographed IMO.
I can't decide what I think about the show being 'mis-sold'. I mean, yes it's not the classic fairytale but I would imagine all the 'inappropriate' stuff would go over kids heads anyway and it's still a lot of fun. For reference I took my not very worldly 11 year old who absolutely loved it (and I'm pretty sure won't have got many of the more adult references). I think someone (earlier on this thread maybe?) said it should have been called Bad Cinderella and I agree with that, that one simple change might give a clue...

ALW has talked about the show enough times on mainstream telly the last year for people to know what it is about.
I was at WEL and thought the performance was good. Couldn't really hear the sound issues until I saw the video again later.

Bad Cinderella sounds like one of those dodgy porn reviews they used to have in seedy soho dives before they cleaned things up.
Is that dance routine they did at WEL not part of the actual show then? It was horrible. And if not part of the show why on earth do it as a one off? Totally unsuited to CHF. That’s probably why she had a mood on 😀

That dance routine is more or less how it is in the show. I mean it was probably modified a bit, I'm not familiar enough to say what the changes were, I think they drag her about a lot more in the actual show. Honestly that number is staged horribly and it's frustrating because it could and should be so much better. I genuinely love the choreography/staging in pretty much every other number and think they nail it - I don't know what they were thinking with this one. I can definitely see what they were going for but it just doesn't land.

Carrie has now posted a longer take on yesterday at West End Live in her Instagram stories. Basically saying she dreads West End Live every year because everyone is recording you and the pressure is really on to nail it as a result. She explains why she feels yesterday went badly and says she can't wait to get back to her comfort zone in the theatre.

Shame she doesn't like doing concerts — I'd have thought she was the sort of person who might start appearing on Friday Night Is Music Night at some point. If they go back to making new ones, which I really hope they do.

The context of the West End Live number is that Cinderella has just been found defacing a very important town statue so they are trying to capture her.
I like the ensemble choreography but it must be very hard for Carrie to sing this number when she is (literally) being dragged all over the place.

Very much enjoyed Georgia Tapp at the matinee yesterday. More than can be said about the show generally. First Act is gloomy (set/lighting) and the music is all a bit dull as are the songs generally (apart from Bad Cinderella, which I do like). The second Act perks things up significantly. Was not impressed by Ivano Turko. He can sing and dance - what little dancing he gets to exhibit, in Act 2. His acting however, didn't convince.
Not an appropriate show for 6-10 year old's who will be bored senseless, as was the little girl sitting in front of me, leaving at the interval with expensive tickets having been wasted for child and parent/guardian.
All in all this would be a great show, if you rewrote the music and story for the first Act. As it stands, it's 3 stars from me....just.
