Nice to see a few familiar faces from 42nd Street in it. Not sure if I'll go and see it yet but I may.

Does anyone know who will be playing Velma? Someone kind of announced about 4 months ago that it was Amanda Holden but I've heard nothing about that since. Rita Simmons will be playing Velma. Not Amanda Holden..

Hmm, that is an odd choice. I do really like Paul Merton but I can't imagine him in a singing role. Has he done much stage work other than stand-up and pantomime? He was in Live Bed Show at the Garrick in the 90s with his then wife Caroline Quentin and I’m pretty sure he was in An Evening With Gary Linekar at the Duchess in the 90s too

I see the final night will be 29th August. Would anyone know if this would be extended? I'm well booked for shows this year and don't really want to venture down to the big smoke again until later in the year. I see The Coliseum diary is empty for September and October. Just wondering if I book now or wait. I know lots in here have insight into these things. Thanks

Won't Paul Merton be filming HIGNFY during the run, I assume that'll mean an understudy or alternate on Thursdays. Paul Merton will not be performing on the following days: Thu 23 April 7.30pm, Thu 30 April 7.30pm, Thu 07 May 7.30pm, Thu 14 May 7.30pm, Thu 21 May 7.30pm, Thu 28 May 7.30pm, Thu 04 June 7.30pm and Thu 13 to Sat 22 August (inclusive).

Am assuming that Chris Howell, billed as Walking Cover, is standby to both Michael Ball and Paul Merton.

Michael Vinsen is Corny Collins! The cast announcement mentioned all the actors but failed to specify which of them are Seaweed, Penny and Corny which seems weird, but twitter has all the info!!

That's not to say it won't work though - I would never have imagined Jason Manford as a good musicals actor, yet he's doing very well at it. Merton has done West End before, in the nineties he co-starred with Caroline Quentin in Arthur Smith's Live Bed Show and had a season of his own variety/sketch show at the Palladium around that time too.

Is anyone else NOT excited by the casting of Paul Merton in, well, anything?

I'll be honest, I'm not filled with excitement by almost everyone in the cast really.
It'll be good to see Michael as Edna again, because he really was fabulous (I'd argue it was the last stage role in which he was excellent) and I'm looking forward to seeing Lizzie Bea. But Marisha (to me anyway) is too young to be playing Motormouth, and I don't think she really fits the character that well to be honest. Paul Merton I can't offer an opinion on really, but singing isn't a requirement for Wilbur as we've seen from people in the past (!)
I just think this needed a couple of bigger names in it, because the Coliseum for 6 months is a BIG auditorium to sell, and at those prices. A couple of people who are still in the public eye would have been sensible (Amanda Holden or Denise Van Outen as Velma - not that I want that! - and maybe Karim from Strictly as Seaweed). I just think it'll struggle without some names other than Michael.

Really pleased for Luke George who is playing Fender and 1st cover for Link Larkin. One of my 42nd Street favourites.

For me the attraction of this revival is to see Michael Ball in a role he is just fabulous in, and also to see Lizzie Bea, who I thought stole the show as Abigail Henson in Becoming Nancy. She's got "it", whatever "it" is, and she will be fabulous.

Just went to book for this and had a shock at the prices. I have to sit in stalls for access reasons and the cheapest seat is just under £100 with most at £175 and £150, prices going down a bit mid week but that's an awful lot of money for me. Seems plenty of availability so think its going to be case of waiting to see if any offers come along and if they don't then I will have to go without seeing Mr Ball in drag.

I paid £55 for Row D of the dress circle. Glad I booked in advanced. I wonder if Paul will cover Thursday matiness. I have one booked during his filming dates but it's a matinee. Also does anyone have the list of understudies?

There's a video of Marisha singing 'I know where i've been' on youtube.
Yes she can sing, but I actually don't enjoy how she sings. There are some very questionable riffs and she breaks up so many words which just ruins the flow of the song, and it isn't just this song she does it in. I honestly feel like they could have found someone more suited to the role.
