There's a video of Marisha singing 'I know where i've been' on youtube. Yes she can sing, but I actually don't enjoy how she sings. There are some very questionable riffs and she breaks up so many words which just ruins the flow of the song, and it isn't just this song she does it in. I honestly feel like they could have found someone more suited to the role. We can share this because it’s an official promo. she has an incredible voice but the sound here is awful and does her a disservice

I have to say I saw Brenda EdwaRDS perform this and it felt like the floor of the Palace Theatre Manchester was literally moving. Incredible. However we have time for Marisha to get to that level, and I’m sure she will.

I always feels like this song sounds better with the backing vocals in place - it never sounds the same without the backing vocals, so I think we should wait until she performs it on stage in the show.

I didn't have a problem with the lack of backing vocals, I had a problem with Marisha's vocals. I have a ticket for the show, so I will go in with an open mind, although she hasn't won me over in the past.

Marissa was INCREDIBLE in Dreamgirls so I don't doubt her abilities at all she truly seemed like something special on stage unlike any other performer I'd seen, I have faith she will be amazing in this show but I'd prefer her to sing the sing more to the book and not riff so much. This is a song that's served better with those lovely low notes shining in my opinion.

I have to sit in stalls for access reasons Can you not register for the ENO access scheme and get tickets at half price, if this is the case?

Update. Just had a look at the website and you have to be registered disabled and provide proof. I'm not registered so wouldn't be entitled to apply. But thanks for the thought anyway.

Today Tix currently has a "from £15" London Theatre Week offer on Hairspray; Tuesday - Thursday performances until 4 June.
I've tried a number of dates for £35 Dress Circle seats, all tickets offered are £55 on the official website so a worthwhile £20 saving (though not in my opinion the best £55 seats).

Just went to book for this and had a shock at the prices. I have to sit in stalls for access reasons and the cheapest seat is just under £100 with most at £175 and £150, prices going down a bit mid week but that's an awful lot of money for me. Seems plenty of availability so think its going to be case of waiting to see if any offers come along and if they don't then I will have to go without seeing Mr Ball in drag. Prices on the way down for this, though whether it will actually open as planned is another matter. Band A £87.50 down to £49.50 via a special offer received today, band B from £55 to £29.50 Monday to Thursday until 21 May , slightly dearer on Fridays. Can't give detail as may be a targeted deal but it hooked me. Got two seats in the centre of row A stalls for £99 total.

Anyone got a link to the offers. Everything full price on the official site from what I can see.
Panic over. Found it on Encore.

I have my tickets for Mid-May but I'm not sure on what the circumstances will be at that time. I live in a very high risk household travelling from Ireland and I'm hoping if it's cancelled then we can get a refund on the tickets. The uncertainty among everything has me wondering whether or not to go ahead and cancel our trip.

Does anyone know what is going on with Hairspray? I have heard off the record but on good authority that the planned run is not going ahead, but The Coliseum still appear to be selling tickets. I have seats for a performance in May which it’s pretty obvious won’t be happening, but no info at all from the venue yet. Other venues where I had tickets for shows that have been cancelled have been very efficient about notifications, so I find it very odd that The Coliseum has not addressed this issue, especially given the original astronomic costs of tickets for the show ( now heavily discounted, but still no use to anyone if the production has definitely been shelved).

Michael Ball tweeted this yesterday which seems to confirm its postponement...

I dont read that tweet that way at all personally. the able to return comment just means to me that whenever this is over and theatres open up he expects Edna to return.
That said I wouldnt be surprised if it did get postponed

The shut down occurred literally as rehearsals were about to begin. Whenever theatres re-open, Hairspray will still need time to actually rehearse before opening.

Oh I know, but the comments were that the entire run has been cancelled and that tweet was evidence, I'm simply saying that tweet doesnt prove anything one way or another.
Theres so much uncertainty and speculation flying around at the moment and one week can feel like a month so who knows what will happen

I wasn't providing it as evidence that the entire run was cancelled. The tweet comments about "when Edna is able to return". That could be a week after intended opening, or next year. All it says is that Edna's return is at a currently unspecified date. I think you're misreading the tweet and my comment on it. Maybe the distinction is between "postponement of the run" and "postponement of the opening" - I meant the latter, you interpreted the former.

I just think it’s very poor show of behalf of The Coliseum not to have clarified the situation with ticket holders or indeed prospective ticket buyers at this point, especially when many of the smaller independent theatres have been so efficient with communication about how the pandemic will affect their production schedules.

ENO aka the Coliseum has been great for various operas I have had booked there. I suspect they can only do what the Hairspray producers ask them to do

I’m assuming they are putting tickets on sale 5th May so as they can push the whole back again if we are still in this pickle in a months time?

I received an email this morning with information on how to change ticket dates or request a refund. Don't forget to check your junk mail folder as that's where my email ended up.

I booked ticket via Encore. The Hairspray website says that ticket agencies will be in touch about rebooking and we will also get the priority booking period. Not heard anything from them yet but I want them to hurry up as i had booked a great stalls aisle seat and i want to get the same. As other ticket holders can rebook from today i dont want to be left hanging on.
