Unfortunately, there was a group near me for whom the relaxed performance would have been better suited. Lots of singing, sometimes matching the music and the words, plus yelling out lines before they were said. . I was in row C stalls and a guy behind me insisted on singing, and he just got more and more aloud as the show progressed. Lots of whooping too. I don't think he realized how disruptive he was. I found the amplification a little overdone, it came accross shrill at times and echoing. Maybe it is the acoustics, i don't know, but it could"ve been a little clearer.

I don't know if it's of any use to anyone but my sister came to stay for the weekend and insisted on seeing a show so I thought Hairspray would be a safe bet for a non theatre goer! Managed to get Row D centre stalls 5 mins before the show (Sun 8th, 4pm) for £25. Should have been £201.25 - Just went to the Box Office.

I tried this last week, but upon arrival at the Coli, was told that there “is no physical box office for this production”. I was given a number to call, and, after ringing for 10 minutes with no answer (it was 19:10 at this point), I gave up and went to the Phoenix, where I got a lovely £25 front Dress Circle ticket for Come From Away.

Help from you lovely people.
For this show and venue would you go back of dress or front(ish) of upper?

I haven't seen this production, but I agree that for the Coliseum I'd choose front upper over rear dress any day - the rear dress feels so distant from the stage.

First use of the offsite swings today - Michael Kent and Philip Catchpole both being used in the ensemble. It looks like all 4 Nicest Kids In Town ensemble boys are off.

Can I please ask if anyone is aware of any offers for advance bookings?
I hope to see the show in September. On the dates I am looking to visit it shows over 200+ open seats in each section. Any suggestions or advice for a cheap seat?
I won’t be arriving into London until 1pm on the actual day, so I don’t want to risk trying to get a seat on the day.
Any suggestions are gratefully received 😀

Good news - although maybe one or two of the others are off ill as all 4 are absent, but at least with the off site swings, they can still go ahead with a full show rather than having to cut it. Philip Catchpole was IQ in the Original London Cast, nearly 14 years ago - and now he's back as IQ today!

Outside of that, you’ve got Rush tickets which I know you say you don’t want to risk but I regularly check in throughout the day to get a sense of the availability across all shows so I can plan ahead for when I’m in London and Hairspray tends to be available throughout the day so not huge demand for it. It’s also regularly on the TKTS website. Again, it’s on the day tickets but really good deals appear. I travel into London for shows also and definitely wouldn’t pay full price for this knowing there’s various on the day options for good seats. Best thing to do is keep an eye on the date you’re interested in to see how it’s selling in the run up to it.

I think I will wait and keep an eye on seats for now and decide to book closer to the time if it looks to be selling out. The o2 Priority offer is really handy to know about too. Thank you 😀

Michael Ball out sick tonight. Should be back tomorrow. He was off yesterday along with Lizzie. Both Natalie and Chris are excellent understudies - the audience loved Chris as Edna especially: Lots of swings on, all 4 Nicest Kids boys are still off, so I assume they have been pinged.

We went to see this last Thursday (14th), Lizzie Bea didn't come back on after the interval due to her voice going but Natalie Woods was fantastic, it's a tough job to come on halfway through. Michael Ball and Les Dennis are the comedy double act I didn't know I needed. We left the Coliseum absolutely beaming, completely joyous 2.5 hours.
There was also an altercation during the interval in the dress circle, a woman kicking off, screaming and shouting, I thought someone was going to come over the balcony! First time I've seen that at the theatre!

Is anyone in tonight?
Sharlene Hector is on for Motormouth - really excited to hear how she is.

Amy West is also on as Velma von Tussle (and consequently Annie Guy is on as Female Authority Figure). Amy must be up there for the youngest Velma ever! There have been a lot of people off over the last week or so, but they've kept going with the help of the swings.
Michael was still off as of last night, I wonder if he's back tonight as there hasn't been anything on West End Covers for this evening yet.

Gavin Alex came on as Corny towards the end according to his Twitter. The cast seem to be dropping like flies - the idea of having offsite swings now seems to be a very good idea.

I was there last night. Strange night with the mid-show switch, Lizzie tweeted that she had never met Gavin until they were on stage together doing a scene!
Michael Ball was back and in great form.
As for Sharlene, she blew the roof off. Incredible voice. I’ve never heard the end of I Know Where I’ve Been sung like that.

I feel like I'm becoming so negative... but I saw this tonight and just didn't feel it. It's just a really bizarre cast. It was like a pantomime on steroids. Some of the characters (Georgia Anderson's Amber and Mari McGinlay's Penny are 2 which really jump out,) I could barely understand a word they were saying. Whenever Ashley Samuels (Seaweed) started to sing, he would literally stop interacting with any of the characters and just turn and sing to the audience - it was just weird. Almost like he was performing a solo concert.
We had Bradley Judge as Corny Collins, and he was brilliant. Other stand out was of course Marisha Wallace's Motomouth & Ball's Edna. Les Dennis on the otherhand... He was fine when singing, perfectly in character, but whenever he wasn't front and centre, he would just zone out. I mean his face would literally be void of all emotion - I genuinely was slightly anxious at the end of act 1 as I thought he was sick. Just before he left the stage, when everyone else is holding hands, he literally just stopped dead randomly and stared blankly. It was... odd.
It wasn't terrible by any means - the audience loved it. It just didn't really "gel" with me.
re: masks - there was no announcement. I'd say maybe 90% of the audience weren't wearing masks. We were the only ones in our row and the row in front of us to wear masks.

It was like a pantomime on steroids. That's not a bad description. I think of it more as a cartoon... the costumes, the hairstyles, the sets... very colorful, very exaggerated, very OTT. Maybe a modern version of a medieval morality play... cotton-candy/candy floss wrapped around a lesson.
