So that's the Savoy free come next year with Dreamgirls annoucement, as well as rumoured to be the Drury Lane and Adelphi (I'm only saying rumoured because it's not confirmed when they will be free), that's alot of big theatres closing up their shows.
The Pheonix and Piccadilly would'nt surprise me either, and with Bat not doing great business, the Dominion is likely free by next year. It's crazy the amount of big theatres that will close up their shows by Spring if these indeed happen.
So what do we want to see come in? And do you think all these theatres will indeed be free?

Drury Lane is free from September 2020, or at least that’s when the refurb is due to finish (according to the tour guides anyway). I’d love to see Waitress and Mean Girls are the two shows I’d love to see transfer over from Broadway, although I’d be happy to see Dear Evan Hansen and Spongebob as well. Actually anything that we haven’t already had in the West End, or at least hasn’t been there for a considerable time.

Young Frankenstein is closing August, so will be free then.
Regarding Broadway transfers, the following musicals seems a dead cert.
Waitress - Someone on here posted, that they have issued casting notices. Come From Away - Playing Ireland, so likely to come here afterwards. Dear Evan Hansen - Producers have issued intent to transfer Mean Girls - doing well, Sonia Friedman producing. Anastasia - doing well, but no word of it transferring, cheap to transfer, as most of set can come over on a USB stick. Escape to Margaritaville - Don't worry about Parrothead, this one is as dead as a Parrot.

CFA in the Shaftesbury would be amazing. I saw Motown the other week and there was plenty of empty seats, although a show that has recouped is harder to shift as their margins are lower. But agree as many fellow posters on here would that it would be great to see Motown go and totally see Come From Away in there, one of the best musicals this century,

The Phoenix would definitely not surprise me: Chicago is struggling with sales with quite a lot of critics and audience members alike giving quite average reviews. The Piccadilly could be likely too as I personally can't see Strictly Ballroom staying for the long-run. I'd like to think Kinky Boots would last another year or two yet at the Adelphi.

Ummm... Jamie, anyone? Which only just extended?
The NT is entitled to an "off year", I'm sure they had higher hopes for Pinocchio. The Menier hasn't had a big transfer for a while either.
Last year Broadway had an incredible season with innovative new stuff like Comet, Come from away and Evan Hansen (the latter two still selling out), while this season has been dire with the likes of Margaritaville and Mean Girls. Things happen in waves. I'm sure the NT will pull a hit out of their hat again at some point and hopefully there will be more surprise hits like Jamie.
I'd still like to see Comet come over (fat chance, I know), Groundhog Day returning and Come from away moving in from Dublin. Wouldn't mind Spongebob either.
Would rather watch paint dry than endure Waitress or Mean Girls.

What happens with the staff when a theatre goes dark? Are they fired and then re-hired when a new show opens? Or do they take forced holidays (considering theatre stays dark for a short period of time)?

Am still sad Fiddler on the Roof never transfered from Chichester as I loved it and want a larger audience to see it. Would work well at one of the larger houses especially the New London/Gillian Lynne as they used the thrust very well but can’t see that being free anythime soon. Also feel Me and My Girl will transfer from Chichester this year and will again work well in the large room houses.
The Marble Arch theatre is also empty and sounded as though they wanted to make it a new exciting venue but alas no news. Great Comet would work well but probably 2019 at the earliest. Personally would love to see Cabaret there and dream cast with Denise Gough as Sally as she said it’s a dream role. Pretty please theatre Gods *
* have just seen that they demolished it which is a bit sad but hopefully the land is still for a pop up theatre in the not too distanct future for Great Comet.

I agree that the Adelphi and Phoenix will be next to announce closures. Same for the Piccadilly. I would think 42nd would keep going until the refurb and Drury Lane will re-open with the Starlight revival.

I think Drury Lane will get either Frozen or My Fair Lady.
In regards to Waitress and DEH, both are in 1000 seat theatres so places like the Phoenix or the Savoy would be fine

The Royal Court is still producing good work but not much transferable since The Ferryman, Young Vic taking a step into the unknown after Lan’s strong run. The Bridge not fully found its feet, yet. The Almeida may be the most reliable, with a consistently high standard, alongside the National (outside the Olivier). That has Consent already transferred, same with the co-production of The Jungle and Network and Nine Night waiting in the wings. Network, even with a recast lead would surely do excellent business.
I wouldn’t rule out transfers coming from Stratford East or Kiln Theatre, filling the gap, they look to have productions of interest. As for musicals, surely Me and My Girl and (finally) Groundhog Day are distinct possibilities.

I fear that it may go the Broadway route, as per Angels in America, but it looks to be a likely money maker. Van Hove was happy to transfer to the West End first with View From the Bridge though.
