I know that some of you would obviously love to see that Jukebox of Evil close sooner rather than later, but Bat isn't doing that badly ticket-wise since producers have started to readjust pricing and it also seems to be a bit of a slow burner with people spreading the word how good it is and booking for themselves again, so I'd be surprised if it doesn't manage a run of a few years (if they can sustain the same quality in the cast when the original cast leaves, that is). And since the Meat Loaf core target group is pretty much straight white males, who will be glued to the football world cup in the next month, I expect it to do even better once the world cup is over.
If Spongebob is playing to about 50% capacity and heavily discounted in the 1700 seat Palace Theatre in New York, in the middle of Times Square, how on Earth would they want to fill the +2000 seat Dominion Theatre? And I'm saying this as a fan of the show who'd love for it to come over. Nor do I think that something as tired as My Fair Lady with all its questionable issues in today's world could fill a theatre that size over a longer period.
As long as Bat manages to make a certain weekly nut, I really don't think they're in hurry to push them out as these huge barns are incredibly hard to fill.

The last revival of My Fair Lady did 2 years at Drury Lane so it could do a similar run at a similar sized theatre

Peak Friday night, peak time for tourist season and Bat is a tourist show.
Sitting in the Dominion and many empty seats, stalls 60% empty.

Adelphi empty from January as Kinky Boots has announced closing, but it won't be empty for long.

The New Year is shaping up to see big changes in the landscape of West End shows, with the Phoenix, Adelphi & Savoy re-opening with new shows. Hopefully this means Waitress and Dear Evan Hansen have a shot after months of speculation!

Drury Lane will likely be availible come March, but that is for refurbishment. Unless the opt to postpose refurbishment to keep 42nd Street longer like they have done before, but I doubt it. I think 42nd Street will just get to two years then be done.

Hearing that Aladdin is v close to announcing its closure, so there’s another empty one coming up.

Wow surprised at Aladdin closing, guess it isn't selling well. I love the Prince Edward Theatre so I hope it gets an equally amazing show.

Frozen for the Prince Edward, or is it too soon? Or maybe it could go into Drury Lane after it reopens? 42nd St will have finished and it seems like the right size theatre.

I think Theatre Royal is a good shout for Frozen, unless RUT will want a RUT show to show off there for a bit.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...I would love for Hunchback of Notre Dame to go into the Prince Edward.
I think it's a terrific musical which was adapted well for the stage.

I believe Mary Poppins is the show rumoured to be heading back to the Prince Edward. Mr B says it was planned for the Adelphi but that fell through and Waitress has come earlier, so it'll go back to its original home. Guess that could still change!

The Shaftesbury is only closing for 8 weeks after Motown goes in late April, so a new show will be starting to move in from late June/early July.

Thats interesting, thought it was going to be down for quite a major refurbishment. www.shaftesburytheatre.com/development/It is, they got planning consent last week, but most of the works are taking place below the road (new bar etc. at stalls level) so they can do them while a show is still running - it hits profitability too much to close longer term. They're only closing to redecorate and reconfigure the auditorium - new seats eventually but they're moving the current ones first. All direct from the staff at their Open House tour this morning!

Oh what fun. We have another theatre now to speculate about. I must admit i do enjoy it and was getting a bit sad when most if the theatres were getting filled recently. Bring on the spec.

The Shaftesbury is getting "The Illusionists" again from 6th July to 31st August. New stalls layout - same as the old one at the front, pushed the three blocks into two to match the front stalls and taken out the cross aisle towards the back. Tickets on sale now, don't all rush at once. The stalls rejig is such a shame. I loved sitting on that cross aisle & having extra leg room!

As of Monday there will be circa 11,395 empty West End seats with so many theatres dark for refurb/waiting for new productions to start.

I wonder if over 11,000 empty seats increases demand for other shows in town due to less competition or it doesn't make any difference as less people go to the theatre and only go to see shows they want to see anyway?

Anyone know what happens to the ice cream when a show closes? Stay in the freezer till the next show opens? Get distributed to other theatres owned by the same company? Binned?

We should also remember that the West End is a business ecosystem. Although not everyone eats out before or after a show, or stays overnight, many do, so dark theatres mean fewer restaurant reservations, quieter pubs and bars, and hotels with empty rooms.
