Still micro dissecting the lyrics of Lullaby of Broadway, what means this verse? You rock-a-bye your baby round till everything gets hazy "Hush-a-bye I'll buy you this and that" , you hear a daddy saying And baby goes home to her flat to sleep all day

Do we think we might get 42nd St or Kinky Boots on ALW’s channel this time around? Watching Balls back phrase and approximate the tune was entertaining enough last night but I’d rather have a show...for free...not ungrateful promise.

Streaming this weekend on the Youtube channel The Shows Must Go On. Brilliant. Thanks. I've resisted the streaming service as I don't want to watch it on my laptop but with you tube I can watch it on my big old TV. Thats my weekend sorted.

Having not seen the production live during its run, I decided to give the YT stream a watch tonight and after watching it, I'm now really gutted not to have seen it. I've only ever seen a UK touring production back in 2006/7. An absolutely stunning production right from that breath-taking opening tap number to that wonderful encore routine performed by a magnificent cast led by Claire, Bonnie and Tom.
I have to say that stair case reveal in Act 2 was just perfect (every stair case needs to be lit up like that in my opinion) followed by that choreography with Claire and the cast was just wonderful to watch. I'll admit I did rewind the stream a few times for repeat viewings.
A great evening's entertainment. 5 stars.

It was even better live. Having said that I think it looked better on a big telly than on a cinema screen.

I have a bit of an obsession with this musical and saw it 11 times, always from the front row and was at the last night which was one of the most amazing theatrical experiences ever. Watched it last night on my TV and had a bit of a tear in my eye at the staircase number which was fantastic.

just watched it. Absolutely brilliant production and very nicely filmed. Brought back all the memories from seeing it live at the Drury Lane.

Thanks for flagging this up, justfran. Nine times in London's glittering West End, once in the cinema, and now on the small screen. It was absolutely wonderful to watch again...even with the oddly placed adverts for Cheerios and KitKat. 🙂 For all its old-fashionedness, I bloody love this show. Those huge production numbers on that huge stage. Will we ever see its like again? I have no idea how the 'kids' did what they did eight times a week, especially Clare Halse who, in the last week of the run, still found time to send me her autograph, along with a lovely hand-written note. On five of my trips to Drury Lane, I was sitting at extreme stage right. I would watch her waiting in the wings on stage left, centering herself before the big finale. I still think it's a grevious injustice that she wasn't top of the bill! 😡 If they're going to give it away for free on YouTube, can we have a DVD now, please?

What a treat it was to watch this again today. Littlest and I watched together as we put our Christmas tree up!

I've just watched this, I even managed to figure out how to connect my laptop to my TV, which was much easier for a 2 hour viewing. Loved it! Agree with the above comment that we really need a DVD now please.

For anyone with a Virgin Media package including TV....
42nd Street is being broadcast tomorrow at 2pm on Virgin HD Channel 999. Unlike the You Tube The Show Must Go On airings, this can be recorded through the TV Guide and retained and viewed indefinitely.
Kinky Boots, Hetty Feather Live On Stage and The Wind in The Willows are also scheduled on the same channel over the next couple of weeks.

All set to record it so I can keep it to watch again and again. Have done same with Wind in the Willows. Got about 15 minutes into Hetty Feather and gave up. Had no idea what was going on. According to the on screen guide Kinky Boots is the film and not the musical.

I found out about these screenings from The Stage Newsletter yesterday evening and they say it's the stage musical.

It's on right now and recording too. Cannot believe I will be able to watch this incredible show as often as I like and it looks just amazing on the big screen TV.
A small piece of joy and delight in a dark and miserable world.

My youngest is a mechanic & MOT tester. He got talking to the person whose car he was working on just now. She told him she was in 42nd Street at Drury Lane. [He hasn't seen it - unlike me!]. He has googled the cast & seen she played Gladys.

I only have normal HD and not UHD but the quality is great and so much barrier than when it was on YouTube the other week.
