Matt Baker is an odd choice. Yes he was a professional gymnast, yes he's on the one show and countryfile, but he's hardly mr personality... Still i think he'll appeal to the older ladies who will think he's lovely I wonder if that was possibly part of the delay - could they have tried to get Louis Smith but it fell through.

Baker also did well on Strictly didn't he? That will bring in some fans as well

He did a stint in Chitty Bang Bang at one point. I think he learned Me old bamboo on Blue Peter then did a short run when he left, so the ambition has obviously been there.

Poor Matt Baker will be a lamb to the slaughter between Paul and Julian.

I think it would cost a lot to have loads of big female stars now but just thinking that it would be cool if Katherine Jenkins turned up as Jenny Lind and belted out Never Enough from Greatest Showman. Or Dame Maggie Smith could have a small sit down role of Granny Bear or something. Neither will happen.

According to Alex Belfield, the panto will include the motorbike globe of death.

Hm. Very odd. Six men, no women. Matt Baker? I mean he seems like an amiable enough bloke but after Elaine Page and Dawn French, hardly a box office draw! I will get the usual cheap balcony tickets, as apart from anything else Clary, Zerdin and of course Wilmot's showstopper song. I get why people want it to change, so do I but from the Palladium perspective why would they? Unless this is the year ticket sales start to drop

Not to mention it's an all-male creative team. Sigh. Think I'll give it a miss this year.

Hm. Very odd. Six men, no women. Matt Baker? I mean he seems like an amiable enough bloke but after Elaine Pshe and Dawn French, hardly a box office draw! I will get the usual cheap balcony tickets, as apart from anything else Clary, Zerdin and of course Wilmot's showstopper song. I get why people want it to change, so do I but from the Palladium perspective why would they? Unless this is the year ticket sales start to drop I really can't see ticket sales dropping this year. The Palladium panto has steadily built up its audience to be the 'must see' Christmas show. The circus theme will lend itself well to the 'variety' structure without having to follow a traditional pantomime story. I would advise people to book early for this!

I see the MeToo Movement are out again but Julian and Paul OG don't exactly ooze Machismo darlings!
Paul OG and Julian will be very funny together. Matt Baker will be a supporting role behind Julian (No jokes), the two Pauls and possibly Gary.
I think they will cast a good young female musical star as Goldilocks and a male one as her love interest.
There will also likely be a name as "Mummy Bear" and maybe even "Baby Bear"

Blimey! 2 pages of misogs. It's a winning formula and I'm delighted that Miss O'Grady is well enough to commit this year. Thrilled to see Gary, Julian and Nigel back too. And I agree that the story is totally irrelevant.
I like Matt Baker. (I'm ignoring what @tbfl said about older ladies.🤨 I hate Countryfile.) But yes, he was brilliant on Strictly and we can't have every one of the main cast hogging the limelight.

Struggling to see point of Matt Baker in this... I would presume Zerdin is taking the usual Buttons/Idle Jack role, so is Baker just there to be the butt of the joke? Or in the Diversity/Vincent & Flavia come on and do a talent then bugger off role?
Delighted to see POG back - will he be in drag? Still think this is crying out for a principal female role. Julie Walters would be the ultimate, but think that the troupe is so entrenched they’ll all leave together before the format is changed significantly.

Actually I hear that the reason the announcement was delayed is because they have secured a big female name for a key role who’s just become available today - she’s already started her choreography training! From running across the fields of wheat to the boards of the London Palladium...!

I just thought, why hasn’t the Palladium Pantomime ever had a children’s chorus?
A group of “panto babes” is a big part of pantomime so it’s strange how they’ve never included them!
