why hasn’t the Palladium Pantomime ever had a children’s chorus? Probably because they don't have to. Provincial pantos rely heavily on families and entire schools of children coming to see Little Tabitha posturing in a dark corner of a professional stage in their nearest biggest town. The cast at the Palladium sells this without having to resort to all the hassle and agro of using performing children. The laws have gone nuts and it's a legal and logistical minefield, particularly with such a large production. I'm also pretty certain that the entire cast and crew would have to be CRB checked. People are paying to see the big names. I know I am and, personally, I wouldn't care less about a bunch of kids in such a grand production unless I knew one of them, and I suspect I may not be alone in this.

Children add a lot to a local pantomime but the palladium panto is a different beast altogether.

My girlfriend’s grandma really wants to see a Pantomime in London this Christmas. Is this the best one?

My girlfriend’s grandma really wants to see a Pantomime in London this Christmas. Is this the best one? It is the best visually but as for story line and heart then I would say no. Wimbledon are doing Cinderella this year. That might be an option to consider.

My girlfriend’s grandma really wants to see a Pantomime in London this Christmas. Is this the best one? It very much depends what you look for in a panto. It's certainly got the biggest budget, the biggest spectacle and the biggest stars. But what it does lack a lot of the time is heart, and a connection with the audience. Personally Hackney Empire won it for me last year, proper pantomime, audience interaction, genuinely funny gags and there is no better Dame treading the boards than Clive Rowe

Can anyone recall Dawn French taking off Mr Blobby when she was Mr Floppy on a brilliant send up of Noel's House Party by French and Saunders one of their funniest sketches ever IMO.
Thinking of who could be Mummy Bear reminded me of that, so could they get her back for that role I wonder?
She is a lot smaller now than she was then so the visual may not work so well but she is one of these people who can make you laugh by just standing there. Her in a bear's costume would be very funny IMO.

No chance of Sheridan Smith being announced? Especially following Joseph?

Is the Palladium Cinderella set going to Wimbledon this year or somewhere else?

In the Brum Hippodrome Panto,we have had a performer called Matt Slack who I think has done the last six years or so.It is a Qdos show so I am not sure why he has not had a chance at the Palladium. He is way,way funnier than anyone who has done the Pall for the last few years.Obviously,he is not a ‘name’ but trust me,he puts bums on seats. We have had the likes of Clary,Havers,Wilmot,Zerdin,Barrowman etc and this guy outshines the lot of them imo.

I have seen Matt and he is great. I think that since they advertise the next year's panto on his name, he is probably being well compensated and very much appreciated. Look on the bright side, you can see him twice at Brum for less than one performance at the Palladium. That said, it is about time they changed the entire Palladium cast.

it is about time they changed the entire Palladium cast. Don't agree. Love 'em. (Well, apart from that bliddy puppet.) Dr Tom, I've signed up and not had any info about presale tickets. Are you in the know or did you get an email?

Also I think the ‘core 4’ are fine staying as long as they get surrounded by above-title names that are more impressive than Matt Baker!

I wondered that. Wimbledon, though, traditionally has real ponies to draw the carriage, so any set would have to accommodate that. Also, being London, I'd guess a fair number of the audience wouldn't be too happy to see the same show. Further, at least some of the set turned up last year again at the Palladium, so I wonder if it is kept together anyway 3 or 4 years on? Wimbledon hasn’t done Cinderella since Qdos Entertainment took over First Family Entertainment, so it will be interesting to see how a classic show will be handled. Excited for some great casting!

Matt has said that he'd like to do the Palladium and I think Julian, Gary and maybe Paul have worked with him on the Brum panto. But he has also said he gets a much more free reign in B'ham than he might do at the Palladium so it would be a bit swings and roundabouts for him. Also he has become the star of the Birmingham panto so they probably want him there. Danny Adams up in Newcastle has been great in panto for years but would he get a shot at the Palladium, I somehow doubt it so why would you move Matt?

Are you in the know or did you get an email? We are all different. I am tired of the same old same old. I would not buy those expensive tickets. Actually thinking on it if Joseph is 85 pounds for the front row I would think these would be 100.

Are you in the know or did you get an email? I got an email last night, saying that the presale (to people who have signed up) is today. A time wasn’t given. Might be worth checking if it’s ended up in the spam folder.

Invite arrived about 9:55am.
Just booked for the first week.
Ticket prices for the Stalls range from £44.50 to £149.50 on the cheap days, more at peak times. There are some seats for £22.50 in the Grand Circle. No Standing availability yet.
The cheap tickets on the lower level are the extreme side stalls and the back rows. There are a few front row side block Stalls at £57.50, which look like they're a good deal and are what I've gone for.
Based on last year, I'd expect the dynamic pricing to push prices up.

Front row side seats are the way to go for this one. The gap from the orchestra pit means you’re not on top of the stage and it’s superb value for the price.
