If Kate and Steve use the word mate much more I may not be responsible for what I do to my laptop. Which reminds me, the bingo card has been updated. Sadly, Kate and Steve saying "Sir" has been bumped. I thought a previous entry "Steve shags someone" was going to become relevant again today but alas not to be.

Look it's a classy, classy programme but (and it pains me to say it) I think they have slightly over-egged the whole 'Is Hastings "H"? thing this series. I think this is possibly the weakest series so far but LOD in slightly second gear is still miles better than a lot of other stuff. In saying that, last week's episode was superb - the final moments were truly disturbing.

Anna Maxwell Martin was clearly having a grand old time messing with Hastings head. Looking forward to some major plot twists in the finale.

Okay so my theory (even though I don’t wanna believe it! ) is that Kate is H or she’s at least working for him/her! She’s been a bit shifty this series, and she was v eager to report Hastings, and it was her that voiced suspicions about him early in the season. My take is that Hastings being arrested etc was all some set up by him to find the real H. And Lisa is either working for him as a UCO (and is still deep undercover) or she’s working for Kate! 🤔

Earlier I commented that the production still of AMM they released last week made her look like she was the latest Tennison archetype. Delighted to retract that!

A more focused storyline centred on the Corbett thread wouldn't have done any harm but yes it's still so compellingly watchable so who cares.

I can't see how Kate could be H. She was a DC when the show started - and H was already active then. Not sure how that would work with a junior officer - they wouldn't have the clout to be so influential.
Or could they?

At least we now know who was in the freezer. How could they have done that to someone as lovely as Gina McKee? They really are ruthless!
I didn't notice at the time, but I've had it pointed out to me this morning that last night's episode was directed by Susan (now Sue) Tully.

The interview is clearly for Ryan to join the Police - troubled lad made good sort of thing. AMM was particularly obnoxious - almost too much so. Could she be H? Setting up a fellow officer to cover her own tracks... She can't be H, we've only just met her. As for Ted, in the context of his character as we've seen him for five series, I absolutely cannot believe he is now acting so stupid. He's as shifty as every bent copper he's ever interviewed and for the first time ever I questioned Jed's writing of him. That said, I savoured every second of the interview scene, been far too long!

I'm really enjoying my binge of the earlier seasons as a total newbie. I love Lindsay Denton, she's terrifying and awful and amazing. I'm currently part way through series 3, and she's just kicked that awful ginger caseworker out of her room. I alternate with feeling terribly sorry for her, and feeling like she's an actual devil.
I do not think (bearing in mind I haven't seen s3 culmination, or any s4, or early s5) that it is possible for Steve, Kate or Hastings to be bent. If they are, it's lazy cheaty writing, and I'll be cross (unless something traumatic happened in the series I haven't watched yet to turn them bad). They've been consistently solidly anti corruption then to have them being bad all along would be ridiculous.
Currently I can obviously see Dot is no longer around... so I assume he's been caught or killed - DON'T TELL ME! Obviously no Denton now either, but I hope she's alive and happy in Barbados or somewhere.
Mind you... it's ridiculous that Dot has so far evaded all suspicion to mid s3, so maybe Hastings is in on it after all ... I just don't see it though. And it would make me very sad.

Being up to date with it, it's so nice and interesting getting a new convert's take on it. Your description of Denton is so good, brilliant in fact. How about that Keeley Hawes, eh? Those series are, for me, Neil Morrissey's finest hour.

Did anybody here manage to pick up series 5 from Sainsbury's yesterday? Saw a lot of posts about them having put in onsale two days early. Thankfully I've stayed off social media and have seen no spoilers but the fear f seeing them is very intense!

I'm out tonight too and have muted every word and hashtag on Twitter that could conceivably have anything to do with the show

Good point, I was thinking about needing to avoid Monday but there's the whole journey home to fact in which will be during and after it's showing. Earphones it is and maybe remove glasses!

I really enjoyed series 3, and finished a 4 last night. That was ok but nowhere near as exciting. Ros Huntley was a bit dull. I was convinced though that Hastings, Arnott and Kate were all NOT BENT.
Watched the 1st ep of s5 this morning, and am heartbroken about Maneet. Also convinced that Rochenda Sandall is undercover, and that Ted is NOT BENT but writers are trying to make it look as though he might be, to trick us (and people around him). I've done everything I need to for today so my plan is to watch the rest of s5 in time for the finale.

That was quite satisfying
Not, perhaps, as high octane as some of the previous finales - but it felt appropriate for the way this season has been going
There are plenty of questions for next time out
1 - What was really on the laptop? I don't believe it has been destroyed 2 - What was Ted's real connection to Corbett? Was he actually his father? 3 - What will Ryan be doing now he is a trainee copper? 4 - Why don't I trust the PCC or the ACC? 5 - Carmichael will clearly be back - but I don't think she is clean either 6 - Will Gill survive? Surely she will need to be silenced...
