It seems Hadestown is the favourite for best new musical, with most on Broadwayworld expecting Ain't too proud, Tootsie and The Prom to be the other three nominees. Of these four, I'd love to see The Prom win as I really wasn't too fussed on Hadestown. Be More Chill/The Cher Show could also be potential nominees.
Beetlejuice is seemingly not very good according to some early reports. Head over heels/Getting the band back together will be long forgotten.
Best play will be a race between Mockingbird and Ferryman. Cher Show I think will win for costumes Best Musical Revival I hope will go to Oklahoma!
Acting categories are harder as I've not seen all/many of them. Of what I saw, I can see Beth Leavel, Brooks Ashmanskas and Christopher Sieber picking up noms for The Prom (Caitlyn was off when I saw it), Stephanie J Block picking up a best actress nom for Cher, and I can see quite a few of the Oklahoma cast being recognised also, particularly Ali Stroker who I can see winning. Hadestown is sure to pick up some featured actor/actress nods too. I can't see Pretty Woman picking up much. for Be More Chill, I can see maybe a featured actor/actress nom for George Salazar and Stephanie Hsu.

I think Samantha Barks and Andy Karl's stand a decent chance of getting nominated, as the Tony's love Andy and Samantha is apparently great in the show.

Saw Tootsie last night on its first preview and Santino Fontana is pretty incredible in this show. Will be expecting him to get a nomination for sure.

To be fair though, the Hadestown stans have been declaring Hadestown to be the favourite for the Tony before it’s even opened on Broadway, and before Tootsie and Bettlejuice etc. I don’t think that will necessarily reflect what the critics and Tony voters think. I’m with you - whilst I haven’t seen the NYC Hadestown production, the West End one wasn’t particularly for me, and I’d much prefer for The Prom to win which I found much more enjoyable. It really is a weak year though generally for the Tonys so I think any show stands a chance. Next year, however, will be super strong and competitive I think, with potentially Moulin Rouge, Tina, Company, Music Man all in the mix for starters.

I am hoping Karen will win next season. It would be great. But this season it would have to be one of the people from hadestown. What was the best broadway season?

But this season it would have to be one of the people from hadestown. What was the best broadway season? Recently? The 16-17 season by far. It had Dear Evan Hansen, Come From Away, The Great Comet, Groundhog Day, and Bette in Dolly.

I think the best Broadway season was 2012/13 of recent memory. Pippin, Matilda, Kinky Boots, Mystery of Edwin Drood etc. And we got the best Tony's Opening Number ever with Neil Patrick-Harris!

Maybe it’s just because the 1967-1968 Broadway season was the first one when I began going to the theatre regularly, but it stands out in my mind as an exceptional season, at least for plays. New plays that opened on Broadway that season included Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, The Price, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (with Zoe Caldwell), and A Day in the Death of Joe Egg (with Albert Finney). Revivals included More Stately Mansions (with Ingrid Bergman), The Show Off (with Helen Hayes), and The Little Foxes (with Anne Bancroft, Margaret Leighton, and George C. Scott).
With one exception, the new musicals that opened in the 1967-1968 season weren’t terribly memorable, but the musical season was bracketed in an interesting way by the old (at the beginning of the season) and the new (at the end). In the summer of 1967, Judy Garland gave 24 performances at the Palace Theatre in a revue called “At Home at the Palace”, and in the fall of that year, Marlene Dietrich gave 48 performances at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Then, in April 1968, at the very end of the season*, a new musical called Hair opened at the Biltmore Theatre.
*The cutoff date for Tony eligibility must have been earlier then than it is now, because, although Hair opened in April 1968, it was considered part of the 1968-1969 season for Tony Award purposes. It was nominated for the Tony for best musical for the 1968-1969 season, but lost to 1776.

Also 03-04 season was pretty good with Wicked, Avenue Q, Caroline or Change, and The Boy from Oz with Hugh Jackman and Stephanie J. Block.
Probably one of the biggest Tony upsets in history with Avenue Q taking home Best Musical, Score, and Book. But, I kind of agree with the tony voters in this case.

But, I kind of agree with the tony voters in this case. a general question about that season. I've wondered, most, if not all the people I have spoken to, watched or read have said the upset was that Avenue Q won over Wicked, was it really like that? Did Caroline or Change and The Boy From Oz never stand a chance? It's just, I know Wicked didn't get great reviews at first but audience's loved it, so I'm curious as to why that show specifically?

Avenue Q campaigned on the slogan, "Vote with Your Heart" which pretty much question whether or not the most financially successful show (Wicked) of that season was really the best musical. They also pushed the idea on the voters that their vote will be confidential and nobody would know who they voted for so, vote with your heart. Did they have the most fun at the hot show (Boy from Oz), the rich show (Wicked) or the small show (Caroline or Change). I guess this swayed voters into the idea of, "Wicked is going to win but, I'm going to vote for Avenue Q." As you can tell, enough voters had that same idea. Fun fact, since Avenue Q campaigned so hard that the Tony Committee had to change the rules over campaigning. Another strike against Wicked was the whispers of Idina and Kristin not getting along were getting louder. A long told rumor is once the two got into such an argument before the show that Kristin went on with no makeup and Idina went on with only one layer of green. Stirring the pot even more Kristin announced she was leaving Wicked the before voting started. Some voters might have been turned off Wicked because of the rumored backstage drama. The Boy From Oz never stood a chance except for Best Actor. Hugh Jackman was the show, in fact when he went on vacation the producers decided to keep the show dark for the week instead of putting the understudy on. Quite frankly, the show was not good even with Jackman and Queen Stephanie J. Block. Finally Caroline or Change came along in a time where dramatic musicals weren't the rage. The show was always in third place after Avenue Q and Wicked. The only real chance it had was for best actress for Tonya Pinkins but, as we all know Idina won best actress by a very slim margin. I suggest watching the video of Avenue Q winning best musical and see the surprise on Nathan Lane's face when he read the winner and the overt excitement the producers had when they were giving their thank you speeches and they thank the tony voters for voting with their heart. Avenue Q Winning Best Musical

^ Thats really interesting raider80!
It’s funny how rumours of cast not getting along nearly always seems to be about women not men! This need to always put them against each other and cause friction. I’ve read that Idina and Kristin certainly weren’t best friends, and maybe not even friends, but they got on with each other well enough!

The Idina/Kristin thing is interesting. I remember watching a video on YouTube where Kristin said they both had different processes but they never hated eachother, and ended by saying only those two know what they went through together with that show. So I guess we will never really know what happened behind the scenes with those two.

Kristin hurt her neck early in previews and she never got it fixed. The injury had a nasty flair up in the spring of 2004 causing her to miss a lot of performances. At the same time Idina was being interviewed for a puff piece and she made a comment that could be taken as Kristin has a bad attendance record and Kristin took that comment the wrong way. I think that’s when their relationship broke down.

What is lovely to see though is that they seem fine now. We all nearly died when that Wicked Unplugged thing happened and they did For Good! That video shook Wicked fans and musical theatre fans just because we never thought it'd happen!
