I saw it during the Manchester tryout. I like Jordan Luke Gage but wanted to see it again when Tom Francis was cast, to see someone with a different take on Romeo, but could never get a dayseat.
Only familiar with a couple of the cast but I remember liking both Jack Danson when I finally crossed Mamma Mia off the shows-I-haven’t-seen list, and Jordan Broatch in Anyone Can Whistle. Will have to try to see this.

Has Matt Cardle done MT before? yes Memphis. And Jesus Christ SuperStar. And I think strictly ballroom musical. Also Lance mustbe being announced soon. As the understudie/2nd cover Lance has been announced as Sam Wilson-Freeman 1st Cover Lance is Michael Nelson

I love when productions let actors cross the pond, feels like americans often perform here but the Brit’s never go state side!

My enthusiasm has dropped quite a bit.

If you really think that your PR people can't successfully market your show, and you really think stunt casting is necessary, just bloody do it. Don't, as the producers did for this, audition trained musical theatre professionals for the role and THEN tell the last two they actually wanted 'a name'. That's poor behaviour to waste their time like that when you had no intention of casting an actual performer but chuck someone in with no experience or proper audition.

Dr Ranj's singing was pretty rough in that NHS concert at the Adelphi a month or so back

I really hate it when they do this. He isn’t even draw. Like who the hell gets persuaded to see something they weren’t fussed about because sodding Dr Ranj is in it? NO ONE. He also appears to have zero sense of humour or self awareness from what I’ve seen of him. Bad, bad decision.

I feel very sorry for young performers who are often living on low wages trying to book jobs, and yet random celebs get hired.

When I was scrolling Twitter I thought it was one of those joke casting memes. Bloody hell.

Also, he’s a qualified doctor with a successful medical career, he’s got several tv gigs and he’s a published author. How much more attention do these people need? Narcissists!

Such a poor choice. Dr Ranj is a much more obvious Romeo!

Absolutely ridiculous! I know he’s a theatre fan as he seems to pop up at most press nights, but come on… surely there’s a dozens of trained MT performers who’d be a thousand times better in the role. And has been posted above, he’s hardly a big enough name to make someone book if they hadn’t already!

What a smack in the face for actual performers. Panto? Fine, knock yourselves out, but a quality production like this? No thank you. Shame on them.

I think what strikes me
In the comments above
And also relating to the similar ones around Lily Allen etc
Is a disbelief that the apparently revered art form
Which everyone loves so much on here
That being commercial theatre
Is at its heart and core nothing but tacky and run by people who are hardly interested in quality or artistic value or excellence
And their regard for theatregoers is negligible

Just so glad I saw this in the west end with the complete original cast, and pleased I didn’t wait for it to tour. My only regret is not going back when Tom Francis took over as Romeo!

Lily Allen, yes I can see people booking to see her. But Dr Ranj?? Commercial appeal? For who?

I'd actually argue Dr Ranj (these days anyway) might have more public appeal than Lily Allen - he did Strictly, is a regular in Panto, and is on the most popular morning show on daytime TV in the UK.
I don't want either of them in plays/musicals for reference!
