After a rotten day I want to be a bit positive. I have rebooked and as I was quick got technically better seats for my 2 visits, and the excitement of a different cast for the second (with the chance of Ball and Boe for my first still). Now I believe I paid booking fees, which in addition to losing my speedily booked tickets mean the DMT+ I bought specially for this has proven pointless. Would it be worth me asking for a refund on it? I once had a problem with their website where it also took booking fees although I was logged into my DMT+ account, and they refunded me the fee without problem when I contacted them via the DMT+ email.

Thanks. I may let the dust settle a little first. I also seem to have money left on two vouchers (I thought they would work like gift cards so I could use the rest later but it seems not)

Am I right in thinking than any travel restrictions lifted during the magic 5 days will also apply to theatregoing? So a tier 3 could ‘legally’ go & see Les Mis if they were willing to pay £170 each? Legally you can do anything you want...travel is only advised against not illegal (I know that isn't in the spirit of the rules, just saying) ...but are DMT themselves going to enforce anything is what people would need to know. Will their ticket scanner have a red flashing light and siren that screams ‘unclean’ when Dawn & new arm candy Darren with their Bradford postcode check in? Because she’s really looking forward to seeing her Alfie again now that the restraining order has expired.

It's all unenforceable - and they know it. The whole thing is a farce. You can get fined, but it is not theatre's job to police society. Thankfully.

Apparently they cancelled tickets across all price points according to their customer support.

Based on? How on earth did they decide whose tickets to cancel?

Apparently they cancelled tickets across all price points according to their customer support. I'm guessing a few people in the pricey seats responded to the "if you're in Tier 3, you can have a refund" messaging and that alone gives them enough for the above-referenced statement. Other than that, I never saw them doing anything other than minimising their loss by ditching the cheap seats. It sucks, but it's commercial reality, and while some (I'm looking at you, Nica Burns & Nimax) may have taken a delightfully different view, did anyone seriously think Cameron would?

I think some people on here would have preferred to have seen Cameron cancel the whole run, rather than them lose their individual seats. And I imagine cancellation was an option they explored last week. This production was budgeted with 70% capacity to make it financially viable, and that was scuppered by the government reducing it to 50% less than two weeks before they opened. So of course the cheaper seats are the first to go in order to minimise losses.
Yes it sucks, and people have every right to be upset and frustrated, especially if their ticket has been cancelled for a performance where other more expensive seats are still on sale. But I've seen "money-grabbing" and "greed" used here, which I don't believe is fair.
2020 has been a horrible year for everyone. Including for theatres, actors and everyone else involved in this industry, who have been unable to work since March and largely not supported by the government. So if cancelling cheaper seats makes it possible for a production to continue - despite reportedly running at a loss - in order to give actors, musicians and crew work, then I accept that.

I’m just grateful that anyone at all is still putting work out there. The government has judged the mood and needs of the people so badly wrong; assuming that everyones method of letting off steam is ‘going for a jog’ or ‘going to the gym’. I still fail to see how a load of sweat flying around an enclosed space isn’t worse than 1000 people breathing in a bigger airier space having their souls bathed in joy. The ensuing mental health crisis is going to be huge. Likewise Bingo for Doris down the road. If it’s the thing you do to ‘escape’ and you can’t do it, the impact on your psyche can’t be underestimated.

The govt have totally misjudged things, and I feel for our arts professionals, all of whom were thrown onto a sacrificial pyre for no obvious reason. We need to get the arts back up and running and those who are able to support by attending / buying tickets must do do with renewed vigour. We must stop pandering to caution and fear, and get on with living.

Yes it sucks, and people have every right to be upset and frustrated, especially if their ticket has been cancelled for a performance where other more expensive seats are still on sale. The narrative isn’t quite correct. It was the case that the cheap seats were cancelled and then much more expensive seats were put on sale. I do appreciate why this was done, but it was the same seats cancelled at every performance. That’s really frustrating for those of us who had booked the same seats several times, having use the DMT+ presale to do so, then have found all our time and careful planning has gone for nothing. The run has now been extended, it looks like for as long a period as needed. The replacement cast is not the all-star cast, although I’m looking forward to seeing them probably more than the all-star cast. The pricing is the same. That choice will presumably help with the overall finances. I am glad, for all concerned, that the run hasn’t been cancelled. I do think the communication was really lacking, it shouldn’t be the case that you find out by logging into your account.

It does indeed suck, but I suspect even Cameron is only covering costs and keeping people in work.

I don't know the breakdown of the number of seats cancelled/new seats put on sale, but as far as I'm aware, they didn't cancel anyone's £20/£35/£45 tickets, and then resell those same seats at a higher price (or cancel more than were needed to add more premium seats). Last minute tickets were always going to go on sale given the situation and cancellation policy for this production, plus the usual house seats. I agree that I think this extension has offered a lifeline to the production. Being able to extend at the same ticket price, but without the salaries of Ball, Boe, and Lucas, will help them financially. (Although they are also offering a short extension with those leads if people want/can).

There is a capacity restriction - the "usual" house seats could only be put on sale if they could be sold and still stay within the capacity restriction. Given every single performance had already sold far beyond the capacity restriction, they clearly did cancel more seats than necessary to put premium seats on sale. No excuses for that.

I have been deprived of so much that lets me de-stress this year (cinema and theatre), that I'm taking what I can get for just one day. On all of the other days I'll be sticking to the rules.

It really hurt that I couldn’t do them during lockdown. I was lucky enough to get 4 musicals and a play in post lockdown but fear of and the second lockdown has caused me to lose or postpone 6 socially distanced performances so far. Les Mis was going to be so important to me because of that. I really felt I needed it. I am still lucky as both I and London are tier 2 but I have family members unhappy with me travelling there even still. There is no sign of my local cinema reopening which isn’t too surprising as on many of my post lockdown visits i could count on one hand the number of audience members. So I (almost certainly) won’t be seeing Les Mis until February. Let’s hope by then we have more to look forward to! Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.

Ball and Boe have dropped out of the Thursday December 17th evening performance... Carpenter and Owen-Jones on instead... might see some returns come up!

Has anyone going on 12th or 13th December got their ticket yet? My booking is still on the DMT website, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Funnily enough I was just looking at my e mails asi have 3 shows next week including Les Mis on the 11th and not had e tickets for any of them. I checked my Les Mis e mail and it says "tickets will be despatched nearer the performance" I am guessing we will get something next week.

My January ticket escaped the cull, so looking forward to hearing reviews of this. And of course fingers crossed that things will be stable enough for this to still be running in January!

😔 I know this is the performance where Ball/Boe aren’t performing but that doesn’t matter to me. So frustrating.
