Totally bizarre that all "The Girls" got nominated together. Same for the "Ladies of perpetual succour". Agreed. Guys, just bring back the Best Company Performance award, no one will hate you for it. |

Glad Show Boat and Rebecca Trehearn got a look in. That was the best musical of the year.
Not wholly surprised by the nominations, but can we please get rid of that ridiculous Music award?! Dreamgirls is nominated for what exactly?

Its a "Best Actress" award... and this says they couldn't pinpoint a best actress. When in reality both Joanna Riding and Claire Moore could have been nominated for Best Actress and Claire Machin and Sophie Dann as supporting. |

^ Agree with that, throwback to the old days when the whole chorus got nominated for Jerry Springer: The Opera and people ask why they find these awards laughable, the nominating committee are a joke.

I am actually really confused and angry about these nominations.
The good: Charlie Stemp, Emma Williams, Victoria Hamilton-Barratt!!!!!, Sheridan Smith and all the love for Dreamgirls. And Andrew Langtree was a pleasent surprise too!
The bullsh*t: Half a Sixpence was robbed for Choreography and Revival. I don't care hwo you look at it, there is no way it didn't deserve those nominations. Even if it didn't get Revival, I woulda been happy with Choreography.
Also, no Genie? That is a major surprise!
I haven't seen it so I cant judge, but I don't agree at all The Girls should be nominated as a collective. Its not right, its not fair. But its fine, they won't win anyway.

Baffled by The Girls being nominated collectively. Maybe if they'd thrown it in under Best Supporting, but you really can't class all those roles as leading.

One thing I will say though is, forgetting how much I wanna punch half these Olivier voters, that is one hell of a Supporting Actress in a Musical catagory! I haven't seen Haydn Gwynne, but VHB, Emma and Rebecca were all brilliant! But I actually would not be at all surprised if VHB actually took it home! She got stellar reviews and was incredibly memorable in that role! I didn't know the Arts Theatre was eligable so to see her was a massive plus for me, espeically after most of the other catagories.

Disappointed Sixpence didn't get Choreography. But glad Hogget got a nomination for some truly stellar work in Cursed Child.

Completely agree that Half a Sixpence has been robbed.
It also seems rather bizarre that Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour is up for best comedy and not best play. Really? With that and the ensemble nominations (suggesting all The Girls are leading performances and all Our Ladies are supporting roles), it seems like they're making it up as they go along.
At least Groundhog Day has got the recognition it deserved.

I used to follow award ceremonies avidly but there seems to be so many of them now their value is undermined. It must be nice for the performers to be able to put on their CV's "Olivier nominated" etc. but I don't think awards in the UK have any effect on the box office. Folk either want to see a show or they don't. Having "8 Olivier Nominations" means nothing to the general public. It has been a strong year for theatre and certainly many people have not been nominated and there is some strong competition between those that have. It is all very subjective..... |

I wouldn't mind  I thought the tiny girl who was hardly taller than the bass guitar she was rocking and the boy on the guitar were fantastic in what they did and would like to see them rewarded for the hard work that must have gone into rehearsing this show. But I wouldn't single out two from a larger group as the show really only works as a collective. |

My main gripe is of course Sixpence. I honestly think that the Choregoraphy was stronger for Sixpence than Groundhog Day. And I haven't seen the other two, but I hafe a sense it is a bit shady to put Red Shoes in Choreography than Dance Production.
Also, why were there only four contenders for the acting catagories when there were five last year? There were several who were robbed there!
Sorry to rant, but I am just peeved, so much good stuff was robbed.

Mmm, the drop back down to 4 nominees is a bit odd, especially with just how much was eligible this year.
I've not actually seen Half a Sixpence, but I thought Andrew Wright was going to be a lock for one of the choreography slots.
So many surprises in both inclusions and omissions this year.
