Looking at some of the official pics I have to say that the criticism of sets being cheap seems a little unfair. Unless the pics aren’t representative? I didn't think the set was cheap at all. It was uncluttered but looked great. And they had a thingie that came up from the floor. So that's impressive. I suppose some of us are used the the huge musicals of the 80’s - THEY HAD SETS!!!

I suppose some of us are used the the huge musicals of the 80’s - THEY HAD SETS!!! Yes I agree and I was certainly around in the 80s. But musicals were not as expensive to put on as they are now and we are talking about a show that is only having a 3 month run not open ended. As someone has also mentioned previous productions of Joseph have not had very lavish sets. But peoples expectations are different I guess. For me the sets were good.

Well it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. However, there was no sparkle. I blame the director! It seemed more like a primary school production than the West End.

Burlybear was right- and I was speaking from personal experience.

Has the show budget been published by any chance? I have a fair idea how much a set like the one pictured would cost- but it is by far the most elaborate in the show.

Not seen a budget figure. There's more to the set, a three piece sliding screen set at the back, large flying piece for the jail, the riser, plus several elaborate large props and a lot of detailed costumes. I've seen the show but would call any of those things mega-expensive. Even the lift is nowhere near the price such things used to be. Although there are one or two elaborate costumes, there also quite a few very simple ones. It's not a huge cast either, is it?

I was a bit disappointed it didn't have any of the spectacle the Palladium had (wall of smoke with Joseph lowering from the clouds at the beginning, animatronic camels, collapsing sheep skeletons etc). It's ironic that all these years later at the same theatre - we get a less technically innovative show. What they do do is nice - I liked the LED lighting for the colours and the statues in the palace were fun - but it lacked the visual style the "original" had.
It's a big cast - but a lot of them are kids and they won't be getting paid.

What a fantastic show! Jac is a star in the making, and Sheridan was incredible. The audience absolutely lapped it up.
Had a show stop during the Megamix at the end as Jason comes up from the middle of the stage. His boot got stuck, tried to keep singing while trying to pull it out. Didn’t work, so we had 5 minutes of stoppage.
Sheridan made some funny digs when it came back on, and Jason came ‘limping’ from the back of the stage to continue his part, and then limped back off as a joke.
Great night, absolutely loved it!

Well I guess one of the jobs of theatre is to give people a good time and some escapism from ordinary life. Joseph seems to be doing that job quite nicely in the most part so who am I to criticise? Laughter is the best medicine or so they say.

It's a big cast - but a lot of them are kids and they won't be getting paid. Why won't the kids be getting paid? I'd absolutely expect that they would be being paid. Just because they're young doesn't mean they're amateurs! And there are 4 teams of eight kids, with associated chaperones. Those costs mount quickly...

I've always avoided Andrew Lloyd-Webber, mainly because Any Dream Will Do was played A LOT when I was a kid, but I'm quite curous to see this.
The hieroglyphics - even I get the mask, but what's the burger a reference to?

I totally disagree. Surely it’s much more theatrically pleasing to see the workings of a camels and the mash up of ideas using Childrens trikes and puppetry to solve this... versus a weird wobbly walking ‘animatronic’ one that didn’t allow you you to use your imagination at all? This production of the show is viewed through the eyes of the children, so I thought these camels were not only an upgrade from the original Palladium one, but very charming- and the roar of laughter from the crowd seems to back me up. Denise I was a bit disappointed it didn't have any of the spectacle the Palladium had (wall of smoke with Joseph lowering from the clouds at the beginning, animatronic camels, collapsing sheep skeletons etc). What they do do is nice - I liked the LED lighting for the colours and the statues in the palace were fun - but it lacked the visual style the "original" had. I am with you on this one. I loved all these elements! Much as I am reconciled with the changing of the guard at Les Mis though, I am with this too. I was basically expecting/hoping them to plonk the 90s version on stage again (never gonna happen) or rival/better it in the same style (probs impossible). So again I get that things have to be changed. And in situ it does work - the atmosphere in there is joyous. Went again Saturday matinee and there is now a souvenir brochure. Piece from ALW saying that the 90s version was the one he had produced and he was incredibly proud of. Described how it went round the world and was revived at the Adelphi. He said he felt it was time to "let go" of his production and let someone else produce it maintaining it's elements of fun and keeping kids central, and as a gateway to theatre. So the Lord has spoken and I am reconciled lol (either that or I just cannot live in cognitive dissonance). ANYWAY, Richard Carson was on as Pharaoh and he was sensational. Fantastic voice, great acting, incredible legs and body from row A of stalls lol. Totally commanding. For me it redressed the balance in the show of classic MT singing vs the Sheri approach. And weirdly it made me like Sheridan more. I even cracked a smile at the robot dance finale to Pharaoh Story. For me, sorry, but Jason is so bad he should not be in this. And I'll say this again re Sheridan - I think she's a better singer than she realises and I would like to see her going for the notes more.

It ain’t the 1992 version but it’s great fun. Watched on Monday and was impressed especially with the kids. Do they have a cast list for the kids ? The boy playing Potiphar was excellent.

No, nor for the Swings. Though on Saturday they had some blink and you miss them A4 photocopies for Pharaoh. A pet peeve of mine. Respect for Swings. (Respect for kids I guess too lol). Etc. I did tweet them about said issue but did not get a response....

I know that a lot of shows do not publish the schedule of the children for child protection reasons.

If the children are being correctly chaperoned, what is the increased risk of correctly crediting the kids?
