Fantine seems the most likely as I can't remember ever seeing a black woman playing the role but correct me if I'm wrong. A few black actresses have played Fantine, mostly on Broadway but Allyson Brown played the role in London a while back. Yup. Daphne Rubin Vega killed it. Literally.
... she was crap.

Thanks guys, I only really know the past 4/5 years of Les Mis fairly well so I hadn't been too sure.
Elphaba or Glinda perhaps ?

If it was Wicked, to make it something never happening before, it would have to be Glinda. As Elphaba has been played by some brilliant women of colour both here and in America.

The idea of Alexandra Burke as Fantine is absolutely RIDICULOUS and that's nothing to do with her skin colour.

Well the other thing to consider is that she doesn't finish Sister Act until September. And even then there are rumours it may go into the West End. But major cast changes for Les Mis and Mamma Mia (the new cast has been confirmed) as an example, happen in June/July, as does Wicked this year. So unless she is leaving Sister Act early, she won't be joining any of those productions in the near future anyway.

I thought that after remembering about the video but the role was played by a black woman within recent years. In regards to other replies from what I said earlier, I hadn't realised Elphaba had been played by a POC in London but had been aware it happened in the USA. I'm stumped with what it could be!!!

She's in talks for a takeover in a long running west end show. A role that will be the first in the show's history and good for them for thinking of it. Cryptic I know but you'll soon find out. From what you know, do you think it'll work? I'm intrigued.

This is just a complete and utter guess but what about Mary Poppins if it returns to London?
Personally I'd love her to be Lauren in Kinky Boots

Personally I'd love her to be Lauren in Kinky Boots She certainly couldn't sing the title role, not in a million years (because of how it's written). Lauren in Kinky Boots is a fair shout. I just don't rate her... Les Mis roles she shouldn't touch

They've already cast the upcoming Fantine and Eponine. Fantine is someone from TV and Eponine is a recent art college graduate.

She won't get Matilda, she would just steal too much focus and it wouldn't be right for the show. And they wouldn't celeb cast I wouldn't imagine, they don't need any help selling tickets so they don't need a name.

I think that's a role she would be good at! But the speculation surrounds someone saying a few pages ago that she's in talks to play a role that's never been played be someone like her before e.g playing a role typically played by a white person such as Glinda/Miss Honey etc

I just don't rate her... Les Mis roles she shouldn't touch I do rate her but because she's just done the 'diva' roles so far, it's hard to know what else she could turn her hand to. As for not touching roles- we live in a world where Sarah Harding was cast in Ghost! Money talks and if producers think she'll bring in punters, it could literally be anything. Though I suspect she's savvy enough not to take on something she feels she can't do justice to- she did turn down the Bodyguard when offered to her originally; ostensibly due to not feeling confident enough in herself for the role. Let's see how things pan out...

Who knows.

^ I had briefly considered that she could be cast as Simba but I'm sure that's complete pie in the sky! I'm not sure how they would deal with the rest of the characters and relationship with Nahla etc. So, I'll just park that.

I agree she wouldn't be Miss Honey - I can see her playing the part well but the show wouldn't hire her because they don't need to. Not really sure what she is being cast in but excited to find out
