I've been speculating for a while that if Rachel came back for a limited run, Jemma Rix might take over from her. With Suzie Mathers now being cast as Glinda, it just seems like it's meant to be.

I think Alice might have a similar deal to Kerry when she first started, standby to begin with then take over as lead once Rachel leaves.

The first West End Glinda was also from Oz, right? The less said about Helen Dallimore the better, I think we all agree! Nope, we don't ALL agree. I still believe her to be the best acted Glinda.

I am pretty happy with the new cast.
Savannah and Emma have been excellent but it's time for a change. As it's only for a four month stint for the tenth anniversary, to have someone special back makes sense to me. Rachel is my favourite Elphaba so I am a happy bunny.

I do want to apologise to any of the couple of people who were offended by the wording of one of my earlier posts. I didn't mean if offensively about Katie, it was poor wording on my part and I apologise.
I do however agree with the other posters about it not being the length of time but that her performance is kind of tired. I have seen her in the role many times and she always seems to just be going through the motikns, never putting much omph into it, she barely even cracks a smile at curtian call now. Not to mention that she is unrealistic as Nessa in terms of age to the actresses playing Elphaba and even Boq.

Maybe so but you have to remember that this is a job.
They don't obsess over the details like we do. She seems to get on well with the rest of the cast so probably enjoys that aspect of the job. Yes, the role may be monotonous after so long but i am sure many of us say the same about our jobs!

Yes, the role may be monotonous after so long but i am sure many of us say the same about our jobs! Not trying to take away the fact that it is a job, completely understand that aspect of it. I personally think they probably asked her to stay on so they have one of the original cast members for the 10th anniversary rather than a desire on her part.
As the great Joan Rivers once said... never leave a Broadway show, wait till it closes.

No! I might be with you there. I've loved him in all the roles I've ever seen him play.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Idriss Kargbo cast as Boq is the first time the character is being played (full time at least) by a black male in London if I am not mistaken? What great casting, he will be fab!

Idriss may even be the first black Boq ever, I know Elphaba, Fiyero, Wizard, Morrible & Dillamond have all been played by black actors at one point but this may be a new one.

Thrilled with the Wicked casting news. I was expecting Rachel and Emily Tierney but I am actually more thrilled to be proven wrong with Rachel and Suzie Mathers. Great that Martin Ball is returning, never saw him in Wicked but have seen him elsewhere and always been impressed. It's nice Katie gets a last show that's just her and two other people, she deserves it after over 4 solid years with the company. I really really like limited run contracts, can we have some more 4 month runs for people in the future please, and not just lead Elphaba? I suppose the new Elphaba from January speculation can begin now

Just found this on YouTube...She is going to be fab! She sounds great, but I hope she gets the lyrics in the right order when she starts!

Thoughts -
Rachel Tucker
Quite obvious Rachel would be coming back after the rushed US announcement 24hrs earlier but happy to see her return for a limited engagement - at four months it's only a bit longer than Kerry Ellis' return stint.
I was a big fan of Rachel's back when she started in 2010 - my favourite ever Wicked show was on June 3, 2010 - but I must be in the minority in thinking her performance became strained and over-sung sometime after the February 2011 cast change.
Now I think she sounds throaty on the big money notes and even more strained than she did at the tail-end of her London run. Some of her vowels sound quite odd ('west-er-ahn-sky'), but I think that's probably just the forced American accent - to my ear she never had that particular problem in London.
Hopefully after this short engagement she can move on to something different away from Wicked but I am looking forward to her return performance.
Suzie Mathers
No strong opinions here and from what I've seen on YouTube she is excellent.
It will be good to finally have a Glinda with international experience given that I don't think any of the British Glindas have ever nailed the character in the way that US/Aus ones have. With the exception of Dianne Pilkington of course.
From her vlogs on YouTube she seems hugely likeable so I'm sure she'll go down well with the stage door mob.
Alice Fearn
Fantastic choice, she's was one of the few very good parts of Shrek's cast and deserves a break.
Presumably she'll become lead when Tucker leaves in January? Might be part of her contract, as it was with Idina/Kerry in 2006.
Katie Rowley Jones
Poor KRJ. She got proper rave reviews in Sister Act, then faded into obscurity when that closed... a few years later she returns to the role she originated 10 years ago, gets one or two shows as u/s Elphaba, then is unceremoniously replaced as the u/s.
I'm sure if she was unhappy she'd move on, but it does seem odd... still a job's a job.
Also pleased to see return of Martin Ball who was a real personality in the original cast... does anyone know if his backstage rehearsal Vlogs from 2006 are still kicking around anywhere? They were hilarious.

Any ideas on who will be Elphaba and Glinda understudies? Obviously Helen Woolf will most likely stay on as Glinda u/s, but the rest of the understudies are leaving. I'm assuming Jessamy Stoddart will be first Elphaba understudy.

Great casting, bringing back Rachel Tucker for a few months ( my favourite ever Elphaba), and we get a brand new Standby Elphaba. Very happy Glinda isn't Emily Tierney,. Refereshing change for Boq

I think Rosa O'Reilly is a Nessa understudy and possible Elphaba/Glinda? Victoria Farley tweeted her with the hashtags #witchymoob #nessamoob nothing like a good speculation twitter read!

So in terms of the priority booking for the 10th, I had the email from Ozmopolitan advising of the pre-sale and cast news - assume we get another email Thursday/Friday with a link to go to for the pre sale?!

If she's covering as a Nessa u/s then with Natalie McQueen leaving she could be taking Natalie's track which would be 1st u/s Elphie & 2nd u/s Nessa. Then Alexandra Grierson replaces Laura Emmitt as swing and 2nd u/s Elphie. So that would be our four greenies?!

if Jessamy does get 1st Elphaba understudy then Rosa could be taking over from Lauren James Ray and be Glinda & Nessa understudy?
