For anyone attending Rachels last show on the 28th who doesnt venture to general chat. We are having a theatreboard meet up around 530pm in the Wetherspoons just along from the Apollo Victoria stage door. Some of us may be sporting theatreboard badges. All are welcome Well I am up for it...was dreading trying to find something to do between the matinee and evening show.

I am out for dinner before the show on the 28th but keep your badges on as I'll be on the lookout at the theatre!
Just seen this video starring one of our fellow well-discussed,board members:
It made me think. What are your personal Wicked preferences?
I personally think Rachel is the bees knees. In my opinion I feel she gives the role 110%, she is consistent, has a powerful vocal and is believable as Elphaba.
I would say she is closely followed by Willemijn, and I also enjoyed seeing Cassidy Janson way back in 2007.
I don't feel it fair to make assumptions on who I like/don't like if I've not seen them live. Do you agree?
Play nicely!!

Oh yeah, this is definately the person we have been discussing recently in the video! Me personally, my favourite is Rachel Tucker, followed by Louise Dearman as Elphaba. As Glinda, it has to be Louise Dearman, followed by Savannah Stevenson.

I actually spat out my tea in laughter watching that video over the notion of Emma Hatton getting anywhere even remotely near to playing Elphaba the movie.

I agree that you shouldnt judge someone in a role unless youve seen them live definitely. In terms of Elphabas my top 3 are probably Willemijn, Rachel and Jennifer Dinoia. All bring something different to the role and Im not sure I could put them in order. I will always have a soft spot for Idina as my first Elphaba too but I was never taken in by Emma Hatton. Her portrayal did nothing for me at all

I agree with him when he says everybody has their own personal preference. I just can't fathom that somebody could love Emma's voice singing Elphaba's songs so much. Emma can sing and with the right song I really like her voice but as Elphaba she sounded so strained. Each to their own!

Also, its too much fangirling in that video. Like, I thought I was obsessed with the show, but I watched a different video on the same channel and when his friends were saying seat numbers and stuff he was saying "omg you're behind a railing" instantly, like he knows the seat plan by heart and was saying "I thought she was going to do Jenny's note" or "she added extra riffs to As Long As You're Mine".
It was just a bit too obsession for me, too cringe-worthy to watch.

I found the comments about 'Idina in the bottom 5', for example, a bit silly. You cannot make a judgement on a whole performance if you haven't seen it there and then. A bootleg clip isn't sufficient enough to categorise the quality of a performance. Just compare what you've seen and be done with it!! PS Emma Hatton is one of my least favourite Elphies - I've seen her live so can make a judgement 😉

Based on that Idina is easily in my bottom 1.

No, I remember when it was too much fangirling for me... in another video, when they planned to clap for Natalie A when she entered, I thought "awww thats cute" but thenwhen they planned, before the show even started, to stand and clap as soon as the Finale ended, before the bows, before it had even began, as they were in the front row. At that point, even one of their friends said "yeah, I'm not gonna do that".

It takes away all the value of an applause if some superfans decide to do it beforehand.

Find the comment about it being bad for Rachel to act through her voice somewhat bizarre. If someone isn't acting through their voice, then they're doing it wrong. This is musical theatre, not the X Factor

I'm not even going to bother watching the video as I can't bear the obsessive superfans, it's just cringeworthy.
My favourite Elphaba is Rachel - I've seen her several times and there have been different nuances in her performance each time, plus her voice is wonderful.
My favourite Glinda is still my first ever Glinda - Sarah Earnshaw.

I find it incredibly amusing that the fan in the above video makes a point about all performers being cast because they are good enough and deserved it. It was not long ago he privately messaged me telling me he wanted to "fall asleep during Rachel's performance" because he found her "so boring outside the three big songs, which are only good when she riffs them anyway". While he also just straight up bashed certain performers entirely and labeled them as crap (sorry Natalie McQueen and Willemijn, Daniel doesn't like your Elphaba at all...)
In regards to several comments he has made about performers and whether or not he likes them, we can see he makes it abundantly clear that he bases his opinion solely on how many riffs the performer does. "Rachel lets the emotion get in the way of her voice". It's called acting! If you want a bland performance with no emotion or conviction behind the vocals and loads of riffs go see a concert version of the show, or watch Emma Hatton dozens of times (oh wait, he did).
Daniel, if you are reading this I would advise you stop being two-faced and talking out your arse, because nobody is buying the BS that you are selling.

I'm not sure I understand when he says letting the "emotion get in the way of her voice". What does that even mean? She's an actress in a musical showing emotion through song... I genuinely don't get what he expects?

I genuinely don't get what he expects? Someone sitting in a chair not moving and just singing riffing the songs?

I genuinely dont get these superfans who seem to go just to hear riffs with little interest in other aspects of the performance

In the words of Glinda "may I cut in?" I'd just like to add that I think it's hilarious that this guy says Helen Dallimore is "a bit OTT" in a video where he spends 17 minutes screaming "EMMA IS MY QUEEN"'"SAVANNAH IS THE BEST GLINDA TO HAVE EVER GRACED THE WICKED STAGE ANYWHERE EVER"

Maybe we should email Stephen Schwartz asking him to rearrange the show. Have Wizard and I, Defying Gravity and No Good Deed first, then an interval and then the rest. The superfans can leave in the interval, and we others can enjoy the rest of the show.
