Are you aware how much of a dim view the performers take to doing this? If you take a read back in this thread then you'll see just what current and past members of the Wicked UK cast think about certain people who do this. And by certain people, they know these people by name... Not to mention the fact it is also 100% illegal I know some performers don't mind it if it's not distracting them which i highly doubt audioing the show will distract them as they can't even tell!

Oh I'm so very jealous of you all! Rachel is so easily the best actress to take on the role - I love her angry Elphaba and her vocals are just insane! I can't wait for someone to post a cheeky YouTube video of tonight's defying gravity. All that said, Kerry Ellis was absolutely brilliant every time I've seen her in it too. Rachel's too aggressive for me, i much prefer Alice! And if you love Kerry, you'll love Alice, as i've seen Alice 4 times now and some things she does, Kerry did which i find interesting

That's really not how it is... The majority find it very disrespectful, regardless as to whether it is "distracting" or not. If you want to do that, then don't bother going to the theatre. Aside from that, it is an infringement of copyright to both the artist and the producers of the show. If you so say love this show and the performers in it so much, then why do you do something that goes against the very thing they specifically tell you not to do?

Well other than the many obvious reasons of it being illegal, unfair to those watching the show, those in the show etc... when one of the cast members of the International Tour points out someone who the cast and crew are warned about as a person who does this, its a pretty big issue. 2000 anonymous people, one or two of them filming or recording once is castly different to one specific person recording again and again, to a point where members of even the International Tour are warned. And, to pick up on the point of "the cast don't mind", they really do. I understand that those who do record for this YouTube page (you say many but I am pretty sure it is just this ome person) feel like they know these people personally and feel like they are best friends with the performers because they go time and time again to the stsge door and everything, but they really are not comfortable with the show being recorded. In honesty, it is pretty disrespectful.

I agree that recording it again and again and again is wrong. However, I have to admit I often listen to these recordings of separate songs.

Anyway, back to Wicked. I never liked Emma. She can't act.

If somebody discreetly recorded audio of a special occasion, 10th anniversary, cast change etc, for their own personal enjoyment and not distribution via YouTube/trading sites or whatever, whilst still absolutely illegal (there is zero debate about that) I could possibly let that slide. As discussed at length above, it's the repeated recording by seemingly the same person, illegal distribution online, despite it being made quite clear by the company that it's disrespectful, illegal and simply not acceptable that for me crosses the line. Even if a cast member says they don't mind it (which I doubt anyway), it is not their decision to make. Copyright laws are there for a reason, if a Company has said they don't want it recording, it shouldn't be recorded. Sure, audio isn't a distraction to your neighbours in the same way that holding up an iPad and filming would be, but that's hardly a justifier for doing it.

I'm pretty sure we all here listen to those audios and even watch bootlegs, but as you said, recording the same show again and again is wrong (and obsessive).

... and why, of all performers, that channel mainly focused on Emma Hatton of all Elphaba's is completely beyond me. My guess is Emma was someones first Elphaba and, in their opinion, was the ultimate Elphaba and no one will ever compare to them.

If it was dedicated to Rachel or Willemijn I could understand, but Emma?

Just so people know, "dan5800" is Team Emphaba from Youtube and yes, the majority of audios he uploads are recorded by him (London audios, he has not seen the show on Broadway or tour). Also, he is the person that the cast continually complain about blatantly recording the show all the time. He tries to off put this by claiming the cast don't mind him doing so, when in reality they do and would probably have some very choice words for his childish behavior around them at stage door. Daniel, your disguise isn't that good since your username features your own name and you are clearly the only Emma Hatton zealot on this forum. Despite you speaking to the cast frequently, you are not best friends with them!
As for the other points mentioned, I am glad other people agree with me about Emma Hatton. She has a decent enough voice, albeit as her run progressed it just turned into shouting. However, the major drawback to her performance was her acting ability, or lack of. Quite honestly the most messy and heartless portrayal of Elphaba I have seen. Her Elphaba consisted of looking confused all the time for no apparent reason and shouting random lines in anger because... Elphaba is always angry? Also, as lead her back phrasing and mumbling continually got worse, to the point where her pre-flight lines in Defying Gravity were just random grunts and shouts.

What gets me is this protestation that the actors dont mind so its alright. Id be interested to see the response if they were actually asked if they minded

I am sure that Emma would be mortified at some of the behaviour of her "super fans".
Of course you could say the same of every other Elphaba since the begging of time and of every other Green Girl that ever will be....
That role just attracts craziness.

Also just because the particular person is a fan of them doesn't make it ok for everyone to start on with the Hatton Hating again.
