I managed to see it 5 times in Newcastle, and would have happily gone every night if I could. The cast were superb, and managed to see covers on for Oz (Alyn Hawke), Claude (Daniel Cane), Hannah (Angeline Bell) and Kevin J (Kevin Yates) over the 5 performances. I heard there were two actual 'come from aways' in the audience on Friday night who'd never seen the show before. It really was wonderful and so uplifting to see standing ovations on all floors night after night :-) I drag my mum to shows and she admits she isn't really into them but even she loved this

I saw this near the end of its WE run, at the urging of friends, and was totally bewildered as to why it was so highly regarded. It’s musically very dull, the story and characters do not engage and I couldn’t wait for it to end.

Im going to see the tour purely on the strength of feedback here, but have to say the clips I’ve seen have left me very underwhelmed. It just doesn’t look like my “thing”, the music sounds super folky and I have an aversion to actors moving chairs about a lot. We shall see!

I admit that I really enjoyed this soon after it opened. Second time I couldn't help notice how the folksy music and songs aren't the most engaging after 'Welcome to the rock' until you get to that party bit and the music ramps up a bit and everyone's stamping their feet to the beat. Which feels like a cliche at this point

Must admit the score really wasn't for me (very folk-y as you describe) and in general I didn't get any of the hype.

We’ve just booked for our fourth? visit this Friday. I think the biggest attraction for us is the way it tells another side of the 9/11 story, which was a massive part of our lives. If you didn’t experience it on some level, I’m sure that the initial jumping off point & investment are much harder won. It has a specific form, but doesn’t everything? All I know is that it swoops and soars through so many different moments of emotion and my lived experience, and it is therefore right up my street.
Edit: …and my wasn’t it still brilliant? Didn’t miss the revolve at all; in fact it just made the whole thing look even slicker, that they could continuously change scenes with barely a pause. And this cast is phenomenal. I think they were quite taken aback by the response from a half full Hippodrome. ❤️

Just saw the Saturday matinee at a packed Hippodrome. This show remains as glorious as ever. Every one of the cast were on top form with covers for Beulah and Janice. Loved it!

Just saw the Saturday evening show at the Bristol Hippodrome - an absolutely barn storming performance! I’d forgotten how great the show is, and it came across just as well here as I remember from the Phoenix. There were some increasingly rowdy ladies near the front who were spoken to by ushers and thankfully quietened down before getting too out of hand.
Only one sour note - once again the Hippodrome had ran out of programmes before the end of the run (as has happened several times with other shows recently). There was a photocopied cast sheet available, though unforgivably it omitted the band.

It really was wonderful and so uplifting to see standing ovations on all floors night after night :-) I also saw 5 shows in Newcastle and would happily have done more. I did all the matinees but couldn't easily get home after an evening show. I missed seeing Daniel as Claude, but saw him as Bob. There was a slight line change as he didn't play the African man, so Angeline who was on as Hannah said those lines, slightly re-worded. I was pleased the first Saturday matinee actually went ahead given the scare with the riots. I agree with those who say the music is quite folksy, but that's one of the things I love about it. The songs are intertwined with the narrative and it all slowly builds momentum. I haven't felt this attached to a show in a long time and am quite happily seeing it as much as I can.

As somebody who loves folk music this is the perfect show for me. So many interwoven threads. We end up so invested in the characters and storytelling. Why, oh why, does it choke me up at various points? I KNOW what's going to happen!

But did you make it back to London in time? ceebee I did - I got to Bristol around midday and took a leisurely walk to the theatre, taking in a nice church along the way as well as the Bristol Old Vic. I then sat in the plaza space opposite the theatre with some folk who were playing loud rock music and drinking - nowhere near as bad as it sounds - before going in to the theatre. I watched the show, took forever to get out (Bristol Hippodrome makes the Savoy Theatre look like an easy exit by comparison). I then walked back to Temple Meads and got the 5pm train back to London. It arrived ten minutes late and I jumped on the tube, getting to the Bridge for Guys and Dolls by 7.20pm. I was delighted that what felt a bit ambitious / tight for time ended up working out perfectly. Two great cities, two great shows, one great day!

Saw this a week ago on Bristol and am still thinking about it. It never hit the top of our list for London trips, which I regret now as we absolutely adored it and would love to see it again!

Went in blind after waiting so many years to see, and wow what a show. It felt a bit long to sit through at points, but I completely get why it’s a one act musical. The accents were bit indistinguishable at the beginning, but once picked up, I enjoyed. The pacing is so fast! Almost too fast but then the slower moments hit ridiculously hard. The comedic moments are great, not overdone and provide relief. It’s something I came out of wishing I went with someone, just so I could hug them afterwards!

My wife & I just took turns blubbing at different random moments,as per. It does feel overlong at times, but by the time you feel restless it has moved on to more inspirational brilliance.
