Portugal was such a borrrring host. Their music is dreadful, the interval was a snooze fest, and the presenters were awful. Add to that the stage invasion, and it was the worst ESC I’ve ever seen.

I can't believe Israel won. Still for once the bookies got it right. A security nightmare if its held in Israel or maybe we could have it here!!!

Israel won't miss the PR opportunity to hold it in Israel. It remains to be seen whether some countries find the security issues a problem.
Not thrilled by the Israel win, but can see its interest. The new voting system where the public votes all come in one go certainly creates tension, but it does mean that early votes are essentially meaningless, so I suppose it's no issue that they run through them so quickly.
Disappointed for SuRie given the night that she had, might have expected some more positive votes. Do wonder now whether an opportunity to perform the song again before voting might have lodged the song in more public minds.
Not delighted by the hosts or the show (and certainly not the interval act), but I still love this event.

I think the professional juries should hear the songs blind, not knowing what country it comes from, to stop any political voting.

So, since Eurovision always airs on a Saturday, next year's festival is happening during Sabbath. Aren't they supposed to not use technology, etcetera? How are they gonna do it? Sorry if this is not true at all or I'm being an ignorant.

Given that it always starts at 8pm BST, it will be after sundown in Israel (10pm local time) - so it will be after the end of Sabbath. More of an issue with the jury final on the Friday night and the rehearsals during the day on the Saturday. But all they need do is use staff who don't observe - or indeed are not Jewish.
They have managed in the past (though the competition has grown since they last hosted in 1999)

That would be good, especially as many songs are now performed in English so it's harder to tell where a song comes from. Given that they no longer go through the tedious process of reading out every single vote there's no reason why they have to stick to giving points to only the most popular ten from each country, which would get rid of the "zero points" problem and mix things up a bit more. |

It would be impossible for juries to listen blind. Tracks are eligible as long as they have not been released/played in public prior to September 1st of the year preceding the contest. (Or a date very similar to that)
You couldn't lock away jury members for 8/9 months to ensure they didn't hear the songs. You certainly couldn't rely on them swearing that they hadn't listened given past examples of voting irregularities.
Whilst it is a nice idea, there isn't a way to make it work in reality.

Ran a contest in my class last week and got the children to vote - for them the winner was Sweden closely followed by Israel. My personal favourite song In terms of studio versions was Australia but she wasn’t nearly good enough on the night.

Ooooo now... Steps have screamed Eurovision since their birth, and I love them HOWEVER they have just had a #2 Album and a close to sold out major arena tour. Eurovision is somewhat career suicide here in the UK, would they want to risk any chance of a future?
Sidenote: I'm friends with Faye's sister, we even went to a wedding together. *flips hair*

I don’t think Steps should do it but I do think a song with a simple dance routine like Tragedy/One For Sorrow would get people’s attention, regardless of genre.

7 years ago Blue came 11th.
And 9 years ago Jade Ewen, with Andrew Lloyd Webber on piano, came 5th.
People vote for the UK when we don’t send unknown artists with crappy songs!
