God no, please don't slow it down! It would be glacial, imo. I'll watch the end, and I'll watch the 2nd series to see if Will and Andrew Scott can perk it up, but I'm finding it dull and worthy. Armoured. Bears. Fighting! Cutting kids souls out to force them into adulthood quicker. Ruth Wilson masticating every last mouthful of scenery. Dull? Are you on the right channel? Finding nothing dull at all about it, in fact parts are so good they have me tearing up knowing whats to come. Miranda is a magnificent Lee Scoresby (a relatively minor part really boosted by his energy) and I can only dream of the work McAvoy and Scott are yet to do. X The bears fighting was poorly done i thought. Actually the otherwise rubbish film did it much better. Will be glad when its over tbh.

Am rather enjoying this, there are times when I drift out of it a bit (it's that irony when the things that are CGI look more real than the real things) and it is deamon light but I find remembering the big things but not the detail of how you get there rather works. I do think oh Lyra quite a lot but that is totally with the benefit of knowing what is going to happen. Boreal, is that right, wandering around in our world does rather irritate but I think that's at least partly because I like this depiction of Will and his mother and I don't want bad things to happen to them.

All of those things *should* be exciting, but just haven't been particularly, imo. It's not bad, it's just slow and worthy, in my opinion. The bear fight was particularly poor though, I felt. And why on earth did they take their armour off to fight?? Lee Scoresby is good, but again, hardly in it (same with Asriel and Mrs C and the Gyptians - good actors, just not given enough to do.) I'm glad other people are enjoying it, but I'm disappointed compared to what it promised.

To be fair, I'm very used to my opinion being massively out of sync with everyone else. For the last couple of years I've felt like a lone voice not enjoying something that everyone else is raving about. It happens when I go to the theatre, it happens when I watch telly, it happens when we talk about telly and films at work. I don't seem to get stuff any more, when other people love it.

I'm watching it but not enjoying it that much but as only 1 episode I will stick it out. Don't know the books so can't really follow the plot. I even fast forwarded the bears fighting. I know it's all cgi but I can't watch animals fight.

Not just you, i concur on all your points. The Kidman film was poor, now this, maybe the books dont lend themselves to adaption on screen

I enjoyed the slow burn for the majority of the last one but they should have gone out with more of a bang for the end of a series.

I thought the pace had really picked up with episodes 6 & 7 but the finale was very slow going. I have enjoyed the series overall though.

I thought it was very enjoyable.
A little slow at times but if they had rushed through it, no doubt there’d be complaints too.
Fantastic acting overall- particularly Dafne Keen, Ruth Wilson & Nina Sosanya. For what it’s worth, I thought the bear fight was excellent.
Looking forward to season 2.

I'd forgotten about this. It's buried amongst all the other stuff I have recorded. I think I'm up to about episode 4 - a long way to go!
