Snow Day!

I walked to work yesterday but we shut at lunchtime. I came home and crocheted for the afternoon. Today we're shut again so I had a lovely long lie in and then walked to Sainbury's (about an hour and half there and back) and I tried to make a snowman. It's the wrong sort of snow though so I only managed a waist high cone shape. I don't have to go out again now and we're closed tomorrow, so I might binge watch the whole of Trapped tomorrow - the Icelandic murder thing that was on a year or two ago. I got the DVD for Christmas and I think I'm in the mood for something grim and snowy. I'm meant to be going to see Frost/Nixon on Saturday though, so the snow had better clear! Trapped is brilliant ! I can’t wait for series 2.

On the good side, sent home from work at 3.30 today and unlikely to be going in tomorrow. On the bad side, unless National Express resume services, I don't think I'll be travelling from Bristol to London on Saturday to see Everyone's Talking About Jamie. Am hoping the theatre may exchange for a later date.

Quick tip for anyone who has an attic full of water pipes: keep the hatch open. The heat that rises will stop the pipes freezing. Slightly problematic when there is evidence of mouse inhabitation up in said attic! No point in me putting traps up there if I then leave the hatch open (albeit I'm not sure whether a mouse would survive a 10ft fall, but that's another question entirely...)

Not sure what was happening in central London tonight, but everyone and their uncle was out partying. Left work at 5pm and just south of the river was completely dead. Work was dead as anyone who commutes in didn't turn up and all the parents had to leave early to pick up their kids from school. Went to see School of Rock tonight however and it was simply packed with school groups. By the time we got back to Waterloo (later than expected due to the slippery route) it was close to 11pm and it was as if it was rush hour - absolutely heaving with people, drinks in hand. Did I miss something?

I tried to make a snowman. It's the wrong sort of snow though so I only managed a waist high cone shape. Just add water! I was taught that many years ago by my godmother who asked me how I would make a sandcastle and was told snow is no different.

My choir as a bunch of f-ing idiots. (Well some of them). We had a social event planned for tonight (Karaoke) and they are still insisting 'We're going ahead it'll be fine' despite a) no public transport in Cardiff today (give or take) b) the warnings to only 'travel if necessary'
I feel like Grandma saying 'really children? really?'
Meanwhile my road- a rather large hill, is a bit of an abandoned car graveyard this morning. But I am pleased to see the carers for the elderly couple across the road have made it in this morning.

I was taught that many years ago by my godmother who asked me how I would make a sandcastle and was told snow is no different. Hm... I might have to try that. I feel as though water would just make it all disappear - it's so light and fluffy (or it was yesterday - seems to have compacted and frozen a bit overnight). My mum in north Wales has texted to say her beech trees have come down overnight and brought down the power and phone cables. They're really old, huge trees that were big when I was a child. I think they're over 200 years old. She's just waiting for tree surgeons and electricity people to come and sort them out.

Trapped is brilliant ! I can’t wait for series 2. Ooooh, is there a series 2 coming? Excellent news! I loved the first one (although I can't remember much now, beyond Big Detective never did his coat up or wore a hat.) That’s right, well observed, I hadn’t quite observed that aspect 😆and the little lady detective never seemed to take her coat and hat off . Very likeable characters, I loved how the three detectives did their best to keep the big city detectives (from Reykjavik) at Bay , despite losing at least one body, or parts of a body, several times. Yes series 2 is on the way ! If you like Nordic Noir, the Norwegian series Acquitted is excellent , there’s at least two series , all worth watching, it doesn’t fizzle out at all . Good to binge on a Nordic box set !

Good luck if you give it a go, I do seem to remember it working but I could be wrong, it was almost 20 years ago that I was given that advice, shame it's not knowledge I've regularly needed since I love snow.

I'd also recommend leaving bathroom doors open if your bathroom is on an outside wall or extension. We don't have central heating so I get up every couple of hours to run taps in this sort of weather. And find out how to access the stopcock thingy to cut off the water supply to your house if you do find a pipe has burst when it thaws.

I can’t wait for series 2. Count me as a Trapped fan too! I'm a big lover of all things Icelandic and the scenery is just breathtaking, it also has the funniest chase scene ever. Fortitude is another, totally bonkers though. They've got a final four episode season on later in the year. Supposedly Norway but filmed in Iceland. Anyone know of any other good snowy Scandinavian dramas? Here has been at a virtual standstill for a couple of days (I'm up in the Pennines and the nearby cross Pennine routes have been closed).

Pelting it down with snow again here! I ventured out for a hairdresser's appointment (both myself and the hairdresser live within a 5 minute walk of the salon so she rang and said she was happy to do it). Meanwhile I'm being very entertained by the fact I live on a hill and people are walking/skiing/sledding down it.

Neighbours informed me that the only shops open in the little outlet bit by us are M&S and Currys. So I'm going to get some Jaffa cakes and buy a fancy set of headphones.

I'm only on part 1 of Trapped (things delayed me) but I'm already amused at how much the town reminds me of Penmaenmawr. I spent years going along the north Wales coast on the train, and Penmaenmawr is bleak as hell.

I ran out of fresh food several days ago. Oven chips are a lifesaver. Still waiting for my bathroom to unfreeze.

No snow here since Tuesday - feels like we're the only part of the country without any snow.

(Best played through headphones, untangled and without Jaffa Cake crumbs... and best listened to at midnight, with your eyes closed.)

Shows at the B'ham Hippodrome and B'ham Rep have been cancelled tonight and the RSC at Stratford have a notice to contact them if you had tickets for tonight. We were supposed to be going to see The Duchess of Malfi so I rang them and they let me rebook for a show later in the month (at a small extra cost as tonight's show is a preview and the tickets were more expensive). Really impressed with their customer service.

Well, we've lost water in our house, so I'm about to go for a late(ish) night walk to my parents' place with my fingers crossed that I'll be able to shower there. It's only a twenty minute stroll usually, I'm hoping the snow won't be adding *much* to the journey. Wish me luck!

M&S had a very poor selection of red wine so I had to go to Carluccio's. A bit of snow and civilisation collapses, it's insane.
