Why do some people think that Jon Robyns seems too young to play Valjean? He'll be 37 by the time he begins playing the role - which seems to be in line with quite a lot of the recent JVJs - and certainly older than Killian Donnelly, Ramin Karimloo and John Owen-Jones were when they first played the part. In fact Colm Wilkinson was only 41 when he created the role. Sadly the march of time affects us all - even actors. I remember being the same age as the characters at the end of Merrily We Roll Along - now I'm older then they are at the start!
BTW I saw Jon Robyns play Sweeney Todd in his final year at Mountview and he could definitely do the heavy lifting needed for that part - even at 21.

Harry Apps (the tour Marius) will be joining the London cast as Marius. And Cellen Chugg Jones is the final remaining ensemble member that is added.

When the show moved from The Palace to the Queen’s was there no break in performances? Did they build a whole new set for the Queen’s?

When the show moved from The Palace to the Queen’s was there no break in performances? Did they build a whole new set for the Queen’s? They built a smaller set as the one at the Palace wouldn’t have fit. It’s not usual for a show to build a new set in a new theatre while the show is performing at its old home, Mamma Mia! had a few days gap between closing at the Prince of Wales and opening at the Novello.

The set that went into the Queens was the one that had previously toured the U.K. That’s how they managed to do such a quick turnaround.

Just thinking ahead about seeing the new production next year some time, I notice none of the slip seats are on sale for any date. Hoping they do get put up for sale at some point as I enjoyed the show from there last time for such a good price!

Same thread, new title.
So who’s going to opening night?

Not me, unfortunately. I spent so much money on the concert version that I will have to restrain myself for a while. Besides, I have a slight reservation about the texure (?) of Jon's voice which I recall as a bit metalic.
Anyway, I look forward to reading everyone's reviews.

Same thread, new title. So who’s going to opening night? I'm there. Got seat A15, directly behind the conductor so sold at a lower price. Booked it way back in March on the on-sale date and it only cost £52.50. I'll be travelling from Oxford by train after seeing a matinee so hoping for no travel disruption as I'm on a tight timetable

Same thread, new title. So who’s going to opening night? I am - looking forward to hearing Bradley Jayden’s interpretation of ‘Stars’ and wondering if he will sing it in the higher key he demonstrated on Monday 🤞

Obviously I can't say for sure as I'm not in the rehearsal room but I should think he'll most certainly be singing it as written when the production reopens!

He was without a doubt one of my stand-out favourites from the concert. So I’m also very excited to see his Javert at the Sondheim (I didn’t see him when he last did the role!). Same as you, I can’t quite remember CMS’ speech verbatim, but I do remember him making a joking quip asking why “Bradley had all the high notes and Michael didn’t” (or words to that effect), so maybe that was referencing the harmonies!

Let’s have a little poll while we’re waiting! Go to the top of the page.

I think the poll could do with a fourth option "I'm curious but not curious enough to pay the prices currently being asked for a decent seat"!

Quite a few £30 tickets (£32.50 on weekends) have appeared for the Upper Circle for every night including the first show (which was sold out before). They're at the edges of the rows, so presumably recently confirmed as part of the refurbishment. Just a heads up for anyone still looking for tickets or who wants to check the new production out cheaply.

I once saw Les Mis from the upper circle. Never again. It was too distant for me to get anything from it acting-wise. Although given this production doesn't have the revolving barricade then I suppose there won't be the same issue of having the emotion of students' deaths ruined by seeing them scrambling off the barricade afterwards!

Had only seen it once before this year but in 2019 I saw the original so I could see it again with the revolve, the concert version in person once and I've just come back from an encore screening of the concert. May give it a year or two then go see it again to see what it's like at the Sondheim.

I'm looking forward to seeing this. As a visitor to London I always book the limited run stuff first, so I never got around to seeing the original production. I made the mistake of thinking there would always be another chance to see it. Until obviously there wasn't. But weirdly I'm not that bothered about missing it, even if I do love it when shows use a revolve. Maybe because I thought the film was a bit underwhelming. ANd some of the comments I've read on here suggest the show was maybe past it's best towards the end. It will be nice to see it without comparing it to how it 'should' be done. And best of all, I won't have to worry about whether Alfie Boe will turn up...
