I do think that going to see this for Vanessa Redgrave is rather missing the point...

I finally saw part two on Wednesday evening and there’s very little else I can say other than this entire play is completely stunning. The writing is just so engaging and the characters really come to life through it. Hope I can find the time to see it again, a theatrical highlight of my year for sure.

Seeing this on Monday. Very excited after reading all about it here!
Question...How much are the playtexts at the theatre as I'm considering buying one online if cheaper? Also are there posters and if so how much are they?
I got a lovely one at Company last night for only £5!

Steve, regarding the playtext, off the top of my head I can’t remember the exact figure but I’m sure I handed over £10 and got change when I bought it at the YV.

does anyone know if Vanessa did indeed return to the play at all this past week or is she off still?

She didn't, unfortunately. I know some people here didn't like her but I thought he was excellent.

Are the intervals in this ten minutes or longer?

Are the intervals in this ten minutes or longer? When I saw this: Part 1: one 20-min interval, one 15-min interval (supposed to be 10, I believe) Part 2: one 20-min interval, one 5-min pause.

As I sat through this (part 1) tonight I didn't once think of my ironing piling up, Christmas shopping or work tomorrow. I was completely transported. It's so easy when we all see so many productions in this city to lose focus but this had me from start to finish.
The performances are strong and they're solid. Completely believable to me. It's funny, at times heartbreakingly so (I don't know but I expect more of that in the latter part of this epic) and the design is simple and beautiful.
I expect there may be people that this play doesn't touch as much as others but I'm really with these characters now and will be thinking about them a lot, I'm sure, before my return for Part two next Tuesday evening.
I cried. We all cried.
The Today-tix flash sale thing last week felt like SUCH a bargain given how great this was and how good my seat was.
Thoughts on the whole of it next week.

I was there last night too.
I took advantage of the TodayTix 24 hour £15 deal for each show. Am going to Part II of the 30th.
This was good. Extremely so. Perhaps I was not as touched as those around me but I could see how clever this was
I am extremely familiar with the Merchant-Ivory film and was trying to make the connection to the film.
I actually found it quite weighty and wordy, but not overly so.
I was also lovely see the connections and relationships/friendships forming and falling apart.
I agree with stevehamilton that the design was simple and beautiful.
BTW- I didn't cry

Does that make a big difference to the enjoyment and appreciation of the piece?

I discussed the play with a friend today and if anything it's more exciting having no knowledge of it as it means there's no plot spoilers for you. I'll be interested to read Howards End after I see Part 2 though.

I agree with stevehamilton.
I may help somewhat but not being familiar with Howard's End will not lessen your enjoyment of the show.

Same here, wasn't familiar with it at all, and no problem following the play.

Not only is Vanessa (hopefully) back (just about to start act three and find out), but I’m currently sat behind Elton John and Victor Garber!

Saw part 2 for the third time last night (once at the YV twice at the NC) and Vanessa Redgrave was probably the strongest I've seen her so far. She did have to stop to blow her nose a few times, but she was really giving it everything. I also noticed that they had changed the wedding crash scene since the previews at the NC {Spoiler - click to view} Toby and Leo no longer climb down from the box house right, instead they just run down the aisle at the side of the stalls, then Leo climbs over the audience in around the third or forth row, similar to how they did it at the Young Vic. When they initially climbed down from the box it was very clumsily done, with having to attach a very obvious safety wire and the detach it at the bottom, so I think the change they've made works well.

I saw part 1 tonight & I’ve got to say it way surpassed my already-high expectations. I have a very short attention span & was worried that I would completely lose concentration during a show that lasts 3+ hours but it totally flew by. What an incredible experience & cast; I can’t wait to see Part 2 next week!

Are they selling the posters? I don't recall them selling posters. I may be wrong, but I only saw the play text and t-shirt (£20 for the latter). When I saw the show in the October, they only had the play text, t-shirt and programme. Is there anything more being sold now?
