I was supposed to see Part 1 tonight but I managed to fall asleep at 4pm due to jetlag and just woke up. I even joked earlier about missing the play because of said jetlag... Well that was smart. Do you think I should still go to Part 2 tomorrow or try and sell my ticket? Could you ask if they would let you switch Part 2 for a Part 1 ticket? I don’t think Part 2 without Part 1 would make much sense.

I just can't muster up the enthusiasm to see this.

Just noticed they have released the front row tickets for dates in November. 25pounds. Happy shopping.

Delfont does have an exchange policy but surely they wouldn’t exchange for a cheaper seat and refund the difference?

I don't know that they would, but they've always been very friendly and helpful when I've needed to call them, so it couldn't hurt to ask?

Didn’t this officially open yesterday? Surprised to not have seen any reviews out yet? Or will they be out tomorrow because today is Sunday?

Will they really re-review it considering that nothing has changed since the Young Vic?

The Jungle was re reviewed a few months ago after transferring to the West End from the Young Vic, I would have thought this would be the same?

I'm sure it will be reviewed again or they wouldn't have done a press night. Not sure they will be as good as at the Young Vic. For me it doesn't work as well at the Noel Coward and some parts are very clumsily executed. If anything it makes you more aware of the fact that it's not a very good play.

Will they really re-review it considering that nothing has changed since the Young Vic? They will of course invite press again because 1. Some parts have been rewritten and 2, it’s publicity.

Looks like some reviews are starting to trickle out now. 5 stars from The Times

Fair enough, I suppose, seeing as refunding the difference would still be classed as a refund of sorts. I should have been braver and held off buying second row. By the sounds of it, though, I’ll get £140 worth of theatre

Tried the Todaytix rush yesterday for part 1 and got row B 17. Long queue to collect tickets, I wondered if it was gonna start on time however it did and we were out of the theatre by 22:40 What an absolutely delight, just beautiful,.. So well written and so well acted by the whole cast, Kylle Soller carries the play for me, so likable, so charming... also Samuel H Levine and Andrew Burnap. So many memorable moments. When Leo kisses Toby at the end of their scene and Toby tries to kiss him again, so moving The sauna scene, so intense. The funny Grindr reference. Eric assuming that Henry is also a democrat, so ironic.. and then the end {Spoiler - click to view} which does remind me of the last scene in the movie "longtime companion" only more beautiful. (I actually wonder if that was the inspiration for the writer) The conclusion of that scene for me is something that I have so many times wondered, How different things would be if AIDS have never existed or if a least hadn't taken away so many lifes
Can't wait for part 2 probably on Friday

Saw part 1 this afternoon. It's a bit brilliant, isn't it. Don't want to say more until I've seen part 2 in a couple of weeks, though. We saw both parts today. Loved both. End of the first act this afternoon was devastating! Coincidentally we also saw Company last Sat matinee and think you were there too Theatremonkey?

frontrowcentre re: your spoiler, it's something I wrote about...somewhere and i can't remember where now. What The Inheritance does that was most clever for me, was to take bits of previous dramas on AIDS/gay lives and pepper throughout. So for those who know, they know. So in answer to your question, yes and there's many others in there too. It's a play that still frustrates me in many ways (I'm on the fence as to seeing it again) but that i loved.

I read through most pages but I must have missed your post because I remember how must you loved "Angels in America" and If I'm not mistaken I remember you writing quite bit about it and I was curious about your view on The Inheritance. I just assumed that you hadn't seen it yet. I must go through the pages again

I did enjoy Part 1 and it was very moving (and I remember the days they’re talking about). But I hope they include women in the sequel (apart from Vanessa Redgrave). A house like Walter’s wouldn’t have lasted long without women.

I just assumed that you hadn't seen it yet. I must go through the pages again I've just had to search my own blog as well, but actually I never published anything there on it! I couldn't actually put into words a lot of it (good and bad) I did write for somewhere else though and that's here: howlround.com/community-legacy-inherited-matthew-lopezs-playMy problems with the play are largely being 'too close' to it, and it was the wrong time for me to see it- too close to Angels, mid book writing and towards the end of an intensive draft of my own play on HIV, everything about it just jarred against me. That's not to take away from Lopez's work (which i do feel needs a dramaturg, but that's another discussion) just that for me it didn't sit well for a variety of personal circumstances. For that reason I'm debating giving it another go though.

I don't doubt that Walter's house could have existed with all-male residents, but historically, houses like Walter's did have women. For me, it would be less "that house couldn't have existed without women" and more "presenting a house like that without women is erasure of the women who really were there at the time". Possibly not the same thing that was meant though...

Understudy on for Vanessa tonight. I think she buggered up one of her final lines. Unless there's meant to be an awkwardly long pause before the characters last words get uttered.
