Six the Musical - Arts / Lyric / Vaudeville

Yup, though not till the week after next.  Front row too. Very excited.

Last saw Six at the Arts Theatre when they were still selling six tickets for £6 for each performance...

My son was a student at Cambridge at the same time as the creators and was aware of it back in 2016-7 as a work in progress.

Well this is not my usual fare but there's not a lot on offer. I have to say that it exceeded my expectations, it is very cleverly done and historically (even though it's not what it's about) far more accurate than a lot more soberly done stuff. The six singers/actresses work well individually and as a group and the pace is spanking - bar a couple of intentional slows. It is hugely entertaining and the audience certainly loved it. What I took away from this is the longevity and versatility of the stage musical, its ability to absorb new forms of music and yet maintain a recognisable format.

Staging is very good too, I like how it mimics a concert setting (Spice Girls obviously come to mind) which is built into the action meaning the fourth wall is done away with from the word go.

The staff did a great job of shepherding people in with the required checks but one word of caution, unless they do something about the long queues outside on the pavement waiting to get in the killjoys will undoubtedly be jumping on their throats.

A friend got a pair last weekend in the rear stalls.

Is the show closing in August completely, or is it moving to a new home? Finally getting down to London in September and would love to see it.

Exactly what I thought! I assume once everything is a bit more settled a new home with be announced but it’s a bummer that performances are stopping just as theatre is starting back up again.

The new theatre is all sorted with a multi-year contract signed. Expect a reasonably swift turnover after the Lyric run, with just some time being taken to move and retrofit the Lyric set into the venue

The Ambassadors is the only realistic option since the others have shows booked into them from September or October onwards. Not much of an upgrade from the Arts though.
