What an amazing video! What a treat. There are LOTS of rumours about New York the next stop. AMAZING to see this musical soar!

Well to be fair, if you’re not getting the actual product you paid for then they should be offering free tickets to another performance! True, but it was good that they provided something for people so as not to ruin their nights instead of just cancelling and offering people refunds/swaps. Oh yeah, I’m not knocking that, it’s cool that they did that 👍 ... I just didn’t think they should be getting too much credit for offering free tickets to a future show given the circumstances!

I'd expect a free show only for those who didn't decide to attend so to offer that for those who attended too is great.
Apart from my free Champers at Les Mis and the lovely badges at Come From Away it's very rare to get something for nothing these days.

If the understudies are also alternates doing a certain amount of shows a week, I'd feel that an extra or a couple of additional understudies are needed. Maybe have some of them as clear alternatives and others as just understudies

Can we be certain it's Toby Marlow on the YouTube clip, and not our very own david? Very similar dancing styles. 🙂

Very similar dancing styles. 🙂 I thought I did quite well there to be honest considering I was wearing a dress and heels at the time. I'm now considering signing up for Strictly this year. I think I'm in with a fair shout with that skill level.

So, what happened at the most recent Sing A Long that caused the Six twitter to apologize about people standing?

Maybe have some of them as clear alternatives and others as just understudies Yeah they’re definitely struggling at the moment. It feels like the cast are just worn out and they’re dropping like flies. Having Toby Marlow go on is a good story and great that they did that, but it shouldn’t really get to that stage to begin with!

It seems they are all on individual contracts too, with Grace leaving for another job in a few weeks, and Millie and Maiya bowing out in October.
I hope that as the four remaining original cast members go into their second year, they add more alternates/swings. Despite the show's short running time it really is physically and vocally demanding, and the backstage facilities in the Arts aren't so great for the performers.

If Toby goes on and they do a concert version and they then give free tickets for the 350 audience members, that could be approx £17,000 thrown away.Surely training up more girls for London and the tour would help.

Shekina MacFarlane joining the company...she used to be a dance teacher at my daughter’s theatre school (Razzamataz) so my Six-obsessed daughter is buzzing like a hive full of bees lol

I’m wondering if having 6 alternates (one for each queen) and giving each principal queen 2 shows off a week would work? They certainly need more than the 3 they have at the moment.

It got really bad towards the end of the Fringe/preview tour run as they only had Grace and basically everyone got ill, causing them to either cancel shows or bring back Renee.

I think they said that Collette is understudy/ dance captain, so I suspect they will end up with 3 alternates and 1 understudy.

I haven't personally been back there but from what I've seen, it's just basic, cramped changing rooms with very little space.

^Also they spend ages in the very hot foyer with the Queen-Dom fans so could pick up germs unfortunately...but they are such a happy team and don’t want to let the fans down...it has a unique, respectful and very friendly vibe to it in the foyer unlike some crazy stage doors I’ve witnessed sadly.

I think in a really wonderful world, this would be the case, but I honestly don't know if there's room backstage for many more cast members? Tbf Knights of the Rose had a cast of 12 and from memory that's the most people I've seen on stage at the Arts theatre but there's also the cost of hiring that many extra people. Lots of things to consider!

I think they'll do fine with 4, that's the most people who have ever been off at once. Even though it isn't ideal, the longer the show runs the more options they have to ring up for emergency covers/standbys if they ever find themselves in a predicament again. 6 would be ideal but what with the fact the 4 band girls also take up dressing room space (they're also in full makeup and costume) they're going to be squeezing 14 people into the Arts tiny dressing rooms soon, I don't think they'd manage 16 if they're already squashed.

Just looking at the Six website it lists Vicki covering Anne and Anna, Courtney covering the two Catherines but Grace is listed as Swing and Dance Captain but I'd assume she covers Katherine and Jane.
I'd think that the way forward would be to have 3 bespoke understudies and one general swing but for the swing to know all 6 parts would be a push. Also if the roles are that vocally demanding do a 6/3 spit whereby the main girls only do 6 shows and don't normally do both shows on a two show day.
The fans may be an issue but the Arts Theatre only holds 350 so fan numbers should be less than those at say Wicked and it's not generated towards just a couple of principles there are 6 girls plus U/S to share the burden.
I still wonder if the show would make more money moving to a larger London Theatre as it must be a fairly low cost show to run without lots of costume changes and only a 4 piece band. In a bigger theatre it could pull in a couple of hundred minimum people each night and still be quite intimate and maybe even then go to just the normal 8 shows per week. That way the Producers make more money and you could still pay the girls the same but they get a theoretical rise by doing one show less or easily pay the girls extra if there was still demand for 9 shows.
I'm not making any jokes about 6 old queens in a squashed and sweaty dressing room.

I am all for it moving to a bigger theatre, but would it still work? The tour will decide that to some extent.

My theory is that the producers are waiting for "Play that Goes Wrong" to quieten down and then move Six to the Duchess. Same producer so could be a possibility.
