We all know this conversation would've been shut down by now if a certain admin didn't want the attention. He can say what he likes but we can't. As the certain admin in question it's my job to generate discussion. However I take that accusation seriously, and if people think this thread should be removed then I'll do it. Please do. Ur first few comments were appalling. And u weren't generating discussion, u were being foolish at best

So I've just ventured back into this thread. I do apologise for my tone in my earlier post. I shall now post my thoughts about the word Queer (abridged).
When I applied for Uni in 2003 and then got an Interview in February 2004, I was intrigued to find that my interviewer was a specialist in 'Queer Theory.' I did some research and when it came to the interview it was extremely lightweight; I got my offer reduced (I.e. I needed lower grades because I was so marvellously charming and open of course).
As a gay guy at Uni I joined the LGBT society in Freshers' Week. Mistake. Anyway, I went along and at some point we went to 'Queer' (bar) on Canal Street. Quite a nice place but still odd as a name to me.
(At this point I feel I should say that I think T should be separate from LGBT. T is so much more than sexuality and requires so much more bravery but while the Ts are still happy to be lumped in with us LGBs, I am honoured.)
I could bore you with many other instances in my life which may have formed my decisions. I won't.
As I look at it now, it is LGBTQQIAAP. The Qs stand for Queer and Questioning, which seem to have their own descriptions. If Queer is to be a catch-all term then something needs to change; it can't be both.
If someone came up to me tomorrow and said 'you're queer aren't you?' I'd need clarification. If someone came up to me and said 'you f***ing queer,' I'd assume you were my Aunt and take offence.
I'm a linguist, I get that words can mean different things, but if Queer is the overarching term then it shouldn't be included on the LGBT... letters list.
Of course we then open up the discussion of what is the difference between a gay woman and a lesbian?
