I have been a long time user of Digital theatre having purchased several productions in the past. Unbelievably they have just said that you can no longer watch what you've paid for and have to pay £7.99 per month if you want to subscribe to their service and access all of their productions....but they will give 6 months free as they are so generous to existing customers. So disappointed! iPhone app doesn't work anymore either.

Not had that email yet. They are going to get a shock if they pull that one on me. I paid to buy outright, and if they choose to break the contract there will be trouble. Same here, robust email already sent.

A friend was only offered 3 months so even that is inconsistent! A few rumblings on twitter beginning. There is really not enough content to begin with, nor do they regularly add new titles to warrant a £7.99 a month fee. I pay less than that for Netflix.

Three month trial here too. I've only ever bought one thing from them though. Maybe I'll take the free trial, watch everything, then cancel it all before they get another penny from me...

As far as I can see, they are trying to force you to subscribe if you want to watch what you have already purchased. I won't subscribe but would watch something as a one off if interested. As such, it appears as though they are trying to force subscriptions (paid or not, there isn't a difference) onto current customers, especially previously heavier users to access material they purchased for 'an unlimited time'.
I presume we are in an area where they can point to terms and conditions but the ethicality of it is very much in question. Quite possibly the legality of suddenly withdrawing access to material purchased as 'unlimited', so that it can only be accessed by subscription, or by another purchase of the same material, could be in question. If they withdrew it completely then that's a different matter but they haven't, they are still offering it for sale.

Yes, I'm also shocked that they've taken away access to something I already paid for. I also wonder who they think will pay £8 a month for subscription - I use DT very rarely to revisit something I liked or when I miss something. I certainly don't use it every month. And all of Netflix content costs me less than £8 a month!

Yes I got the 3 month e mail too. I bought a couple of productions when they first launched and thought they were mine to keep. Mind you I only glanced at the e mail and didn't realise I now gave to pay to watch my shows. Not happy.

I've had the 3 month email too. It promptly got deleted. As far as I remember I only ever purchased 1 production from them & I'm certainly not going to pay every month to be able to watch that 1 show.

Not happy with this at all. Why would I have paid the extra and spent hours downloading both the software and the film if 'unlimited access' doesn't actually mean that?

Six month offer here too - equally disenchanted. I seem to recall that when the BBC closed their 'programme store' a few months back they refunded all purchases in full as the content would no longer be available to view.

From the look of their website comments and twitter this is going disastrously for them. Unsurprising and I can only imagine they don't have anyone making decsions who collects physical property. Offering free streaming is not an alternative, demanding extra payment for streaming property that you own is so out there it is business suicide.

No that message about no longer supporting existing purchases only comes up when you log in/ activate/re-activate your new account. It feels like they were trying to sidestep that and hoodwink people into thinking they were getting something free for 6 months when actually they haven't been explicit at all. Sneaky

I have asked them to clarify the length of time the purchased content is available for and what happens if I wish purchased content to be available on my content and maybe later take out a subscription/ get access to newly added content. Not sure what the best thing to go for is tbh. I have 10 purchased productions in my account.
