Several people mentioned they watched, so I thought I'd start a thread - not sure how we'll manage as it's on every day and it will be impossible to be up to date with episodes, so we might need to use spoiler tags? What do you think? (There is a spoiler below in tags just in case, as it makes reference to the first elimination that was yesterday.) Anyway, what an amazing standard! The firework dessert challenge to find the final one of the 24 was astonishing for the audition stage. We started a drinking game whenever 'crumb' was mentioned and had to stop after 10 minutes to perform CPR! I mean, seriously? Crumb? Anything arrives at my house in crumb form gets handed straight back to the Ocado driver! And 'foam' has also returned. I won't say too much in case you're eating, but frankly, anyone who has a dog would never eat foam.😷 That is all. But I do love all the nurturing and encouragement of this show. The first eliminee got to do work experience in Reynold's dessert bar. How fantastic is that? I was sad at who left (already! I'll be a wreck by the end!) and get annoyed when the judges play out the rules like that and a plate of crumbs and slop wins over a plate of nice food where the flavour hasn't quite come through.
Shaping up to be a great series I think.

The best version of Masterchef there is. I've never missed a series and I always know who wins it so I can watch there progress. Love it.

Have been away for a few days so I've now caught up - the fact it's on every weekday can be a bit of a challenge! My drinking game in the first week is to have a drink whenever Gary says 'someone in this room will be the winner of Masterchef 2017'....
Some of the stuff they made this week was amazing, that chocolate firework dessert was incredible. So pleased it's back, love this programme.

the fact it's on every weekday can be a bit of a challenge! Isn't it?! There's also a marathon on Sunday mornings showing the whole week's worth in one big dollop. I hope that's Maggie Beer over and done with for the series now, though I suspect it may not be. Looking forward to seeing the personalities come out a bit this week. The audition stage seemed shorter than normal so I don't really feel I know them so well.

Well, I haven't watched Bake Off yet because I was watching this and wow! Just wow! A couple of weeks in and tonight's elimination was a 4 and a half hour cake that had 12 different recipes to follow. No way did I ever think any of them would manage it, especially the one with the labourer's fat fingered hands. (Trying not to be too specific so as not to give spoilers.) This programme pushes the contestants beyond anything they think they are capable of and I love it. Side note. Eloise is annoying. So is her hair.

I can't fathom as to how the contestant with the bulging cake (not a euphemism) can still be there! Especially after over creaming his pea "custard".
And for what it's worth, I agree that if your dish doesn't have some sort of crumb, it's not a winner. The judges love a crumb.

Well I just want to apologise to anyone who may have started watching this. I've just about had enough this season. I'd eat very little of the stuff they've made. The judges are raving about soil, ash, savoury ice cream, crumb, foam and stuff that looks like it really doesn't belong this side of a pooper scooper. Not to mention some of The Most Annoying Girls (with the most stupid haircuts.) But today I've reached my limit of tolerance. Someone made pork and coconut. The judges raved. Sadly the programme seems to have become a caricature of itself.

I have to agree with you. I used to love this programme but it has got really bad now. Heston week was the absolute worst. This is the year of the Ice Cream, last year I think it was Parfaits. The judges really show their favouritism to the girls while making the men second-guess themselves all the time. If I ever hear the name Tamara again it will be too soon.
Sorry for the rant but good to get it off my chest.

I used to love this programme but it has got really bad now. Heston week was the absolute worst. Oh I couldn't even bring myself to mention Heston week! There are no words to describe the horror of what they did to what has always been my highlight of the season. If we still have Nigella, more Maggie Beeeeeeeeer or Yes Marco! to suffer I fear I will be turning off. Question. Why would anyone under 30 dye their hair grey? (She actually annoys me more than Tamara, if that's even possible.)

I think I read somewhere that Marco had gone off in a huff about something and was going to do a different show so I don't think we will have to suffer him anymore thank goodness. The over-the-top reaction anytime a celebrity chef shows up is downright embarrassing.
I also agree about the hair! Personally I really hate the shaved one side of the head look. And yes the horrible storm-cloud grey was particularly unappealing.
Must admit I have a slight bias for Arum being a Brit, and Sarah and Diane I think are better cooks than Tamara, Eloise and Eliza.

I think I read somewhere that Marco had gone off in a huff about something and was going to do a different show Well thank the lord Webber for that! Must admit I have a slight bias for Arum being a Brit, and Sarah and Diane I think are better cooks than Tamara, Eloise and Eliza. Yes, Arum's ok and I also think Sam's quite sweet (though not a winner.) Ben's coming into his own (despite the pork with coconut shavings. ) But I can't get past him looking like Gaston from Beauty and the beast! I quite like Eliza - well, she's not annoying anyway - but they haven't really shown much of her. Neither have they shown much of the blond pony tail girl in today's elimination. Sarah's probably the best, but her pieces to camera drive me nuts. Diana's also good I think.

Just as a matter of interest, did anyone watch the Indian version. I really enjoyed it and I also liked the South African one as well. In both of these shows the food was really different and it made a change from the food we usually get to see.

Never seen either of those. I watched a Canadian one - dear Heaven what judges! And serious biatches participating! I've also seen a New Zealand one which was just ok, but I didn't like the judges much. I think they competed in pairs, which became difficult when one of the couples split up during filming or something! As for Gordon-2-adjective-Ramsey and his punctuating. Sentences Where. They shouldn't be. Punctuated.......I can't stand the American one, it's just too nasty. Thanks junet - I'll look out for the Indian and SA ones.

Well, I have just watched an episode that has left me pretty glad my ancestors didn't go stealing no sheeps and end up in Botany Bay! Australian food has definitely gone gender neutral! Parsnip ice cream, cured egg yolk injected with caramel sauce - is this a dinner or a pudding? Earlier we'd had mushroom flavoured ice cream on fondant potatoes! Dinner or pudding? You decide!
The dreaded reinvention test. Notoriously difficult. So we had beef wellington reinvented to fried pineapple with a bit of pastry on the side. Definitely missed the brief. Pineapple is nothing like beef - it doesn't even come from the same animal. Bottom 3, surely? Whaaaaat? NOOOOO! the judges raved! Top 3! So the reinvention test has become a make-whatever-you-like episode then? I could go on and do a spotted dick and call it reinvented turkey dinosaurs because they are both extinct! That would work!
But the girl who reinvented her beef wellington by blitzing up raw chicken livers with an egg yolk and pouring it onto the plate with some pastry discs FINALLY got her p45 when she couldn't make the hideous mess of a pressure test that was some ridiculous thing with parsnips, honeycomb and leaves encased in clingfilm(?) Yes, the dyed grey haired annoying gurner is finally gone. Hurrah! Tamara next purleeeeeze.
Worst series by miles. I just spend my time screaming at the telly.
Mind you, you could bring that Shannon Bennett home to meet your mum, couldn't you?

I don’t know why I came into this thread as I don’t watch the programme...! Bored, I suppose. Anyway, I seem to spend half my time on here Googling who certain people are (curiously they’re usually men!) as I have no idea who folk are talking about sometimes. My research has proven that that the gentlemen mentioned by gentlemen posters have a much higher Phwoaaar! score than those recommended by the ladies. This chap Miss Tibidabo and musicallady seem to be throwing their caps at reminds me of Benny from Crossroads!

As George would say, “YUM!”, indeed.

LOL! Very nice @tom89 , though not entirely my flute of champagne. What I was trying to link to was actually a picture of Gaston from the cartoon version of Beauty and the Beast, who I'm certain is never to be found in the same room as Ben......
