Anyone know the likely timeline for Jodie's first series to air - will they do next spring or might it wait until autumn 2018. I'm not keen in the 18 month breaks between series they often do or splitting series in two as they did with Matt Smith's 2nd and 3rd series. I'd happily reduce number of episodes her series to say 8 to ensure you got a series every year. Also how about Phoebe Waller-Bridge as the companion, they have used well known people before like Catherine Tate and Jodie and Phoebe could be a intergalactic version of Cagney and Lacey or Tess and Claudia minus Northern accent and too much black mascara. I'd be so much more excited if Phoebe was the new Doctor. Maybe it's an obvious choice. I do trust everyone else who's seen Jodie in other things who say that she's great. As for them working together, it could work. Not convinced myself though. I'd be very interested in them doing an older (say, over fifty) companion. The wonder and disbelief could be mesmerising. A mother/son companion combination could work alongside any Doctor and I'd like to see it.

The filming is said to begin in October and November, which makes spring start unlikely, unless they do a split season and broadcast half in spring and half in autumn. At the moment it looks like it'll air in late summer-early autumn 2018. But there is a rumour about reducing number of episodes to 10 and even about a possible Easter special. At the moment it's all just speculation.

A bit late in to this, I'm not sure if all the brouhaha/kerfuffle/furore has died down, it might already have been mentioned but it's slightly irksome there are so many references in social media to "fanboy" rage. There is plenty of it, but I've seen loads of similarly negative whiny reactions from women.
While I've liked Capaldi I've recently felt the show as a whole is in need of not just the new start of a regeneration but a general all-round kick up the rear end. A female Doctor will go some way to achieving that but it will need strong stories and scripts and, I feel, a jarringly, maybe shockingly different kind of companion. It'll be really disappointing if the automatic reaction is to have a male Bill or a fresh-faced Clara-boy. Whatever happens there though, I do hope that really is the end of Bill as I found her very annoying.
A new showrunner is of course also a good thing on paper but I've heard a number of fans saying they don't rate Chibnall and have low expectations.

An Easter Special to give Jodie's Dr time to develop her persona and introduce any new companions would make sense as she'll only likely appear at end of Xmas Special. Then the following episode can kick on with the storylines. A 10 episode series would make sense then we should be able to get a series every year at same time. I had no problem with them taking a year off or just doing specials for one year like they did in Tennant's last year but other times series should be in roughly same space each year,
Chibnall has done a lot of Torchwood and has written for Dr Who before so I feel he'll be a good choice. We might see John Barrowman back as Cpt Jack given Torchwood link and a two Dr storyline with David Tennant must be a possibility in due course given the Broadchurch links.

I think it would be clever if Chris Chibnall manages to squeeze in a guest star from 'Broadchurch' into each episode every week.
Like Johnny Bailey. And Johnny Bailey. And Johnny Bailey. And Johnny Bailey. Oh and perhaps Johnny Bailey.

Well, now that we have a female Doctor, there's plenty of scope for a male full-time Companion, so make sure you wish REALLY HARD, Ryan. And no innuendo on my use of the term "really hard", if you please.

And Johnny Bailey. Oh and perhaps Johnny Bailey Jonathan Bailey was already a guest in a 2014 episode. So you'll have to hope for a Steven Moffat written episode for his character to return. Unless he wears a monster outfit, but that would defeat the purpose for Ryan . Wouldn't it?

Ah, but Freema Agyeman and Karen Gillan both played guest roles before being cast as full-time companions (and I suppose you could probably count Catherine Tate here too, even though her guest role and companion role were the same), so there's precedent for his return.

Well okay yes, actors do re=appear as different characters. Which can work as long as it's explained ( Freema played Martha's cousin Adeola originally. Eve Myles played Gwen's 19th century ancestor before she became Gwen Cooper)
I was talking about Jonathan returning as his original character.

Bradley Walsh! Now there's a turn up for the books. Three new companions for La Whittaker apparently. I'm sorry, who?

Two Hollyoaks alumni then...I guess the Yoof might know them? (Do Yoof watch Hollyoaks? I've no idea it's a soap that's passed me by) anyway I quite like this mix of folks in the Tardis it means if one isn't great then there's a possibility of liking the others!
Also Sharon D Clarke is pretty damn cool. Bradley...may surprise us.

Bradley...may surprise us. He may well do. In a way he's quite similar to Catherine Tate joining the show as a companion, being an actor that's already well established and look what happened there. Donna turned out to be the best companion ever. Yep, said it. EVER!

And who knows, I don't dislike Bradley Walsh, and he might be dare I say it quite fun? we've had a lot of terribly serious companion stories in the last few years so I'm fine if he's also a bit of light relief! (maybe don't sing though Brad eh? not in the first season)

Anyone who disagrees with the factual statement that Donna Noble is the best companion ever is an idiot, even if it's Russell T Davies with his extreme Rose favouritism.

Rusty T knows the truth in his heart. And if he doesn't we'll collectively (metaphorically) slap the truth into him. Rose who? there's only one Queen of the Tardis.

I'll go along with Donna being the best companion of the modern series but not of the whole run! That would be Barbara Wright.
It does seem that the new team are determined to shake things up and the show needed it so looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Donna's dynamics with The Doctor worked wonders 'cause she was probably the only one NOT 'in love' with him at any given point in time. And space.

Watch Bradley Walsh in Law and Order UK - hard to believe it is the same chap from the comedy and quiz shows. He can certainly cast off his usual TV persona if he needs to

Well it's made my morning to see so many sensible people here. Donna is OF COURSE the best companion we've had to far. DoctorDonna is a team that shall probably never be beaten. Having said that, I am SO here for Bradley Walsh in a companion position. Huge fan. Can't wait!!

Good to see such diversity in the companions. I certainly enjoyed Bradley Walsh as a detective so look forward to seeing what he does with his new role. I too agree that Donna is or was the best companion but way back I thought Susan was - what did I know as a teenager?

Indeed! Plus the press release says "regular cast members" not "companions" so not actually clear these will all be travelling in every episode.

I love the pictorial evidence above But also I think CC is going for a 'shake it up' approach (rightly so, it frankly needs a bit of a kick up the arse) so I'd imagine he wants to deliberately shy away from the 1 companion, season long story-line right now. There's also been talk it'll be shorter seasons, so a dipping in and out approach with companions might work better. I honestly don't think it shows a lack of faith in Jodie, or a 'Female Doctor' (when can we just start calling her 'The Doctor' I wonder?) I think it's a fairly sensible decision that's actually rooted in the show's history.

Don't they have any faith that she can carry the role as the men do? That was my immediate thought too, and still is, despite the pics above. To announce a whole bevy of companions before the series starts is a bit odd. I must admit, too, that I've never really noticed any of them much before, despite watching three series of Broadchurch! Still, there have been many times when I've been surprised/thrilled by performances from actors I've been 'meh' about before, so I'm interested to see how this pans out.
