I know I'm not alone in my Whovian nature here...so 13th Doctor to be revealed after the Tennis on Sunday...that's one way to get me to care about sport I guess BBC.
So thread for guess, rants about the last series and of course celebrating/commiserating when the new one is revealed.

Not a massive fan but I'll watch it if it's on. I'll be watching the tennis anyway. Who does everyone think would be good for the role?

There was a rumour it might be Phoebe Waller-Bridge which would be fantastic casting. Adrian Lester has been my choice for years though.

I'd love it to be any of the cast of Black Books or The It Crowd.

Jodie Whittaker's odds have shortened considerably, I think she'd be a great choice (and there's the history working with Chibnall), Favourite still Kris Marshall who'd be a bit of a 'meh' in my humble opinion.

I'm nervous and excited about this announcement, I'd like quite a bold choice for the new Doctor (Miriam Margolyes would be a hoot but would never happen) but I'm not sure a new incoming showrunner would risk it. Roll on Sunday!

I rather wish they had kept it a secret until the end of the Christmas special - that would have made for a real TV moment. Assuming the secret could have been kept...

I rather wish they had kept it a secret until the end of the Christmas special - that would have made for a real TV moment. Assuming the secret could have been kept... I had really hoped so too, but as they're filming the Christmas special right now (they're filming base has been near my house all week in fact!) I'm guessing it's going to be nigh on impossible to keep it quiet until then. A shame, because the one time they managed that (9 into 10) it was glorious. Of course there wasn't the same level of interest/social media presence then. Personally I'd have loved them to pull off a coup and have him regenerate at the end of the series, which for a bit I thought we were going to get, but alas no- Moffat needs his last hurrah!

I know I'm not alone in my Whovian nature here...so 13th Doctor to be revealed after the Tennis on Sunday...that's one way to get me to care about sport I guess BBC. Roger Federer will win the Gentlemen's Singles, then announce his retirement from tennis, then be revealed to be The Doctor, then a police box will materialise on Centre Court and The Doctor will enter with new companion Sue Barker.

Exactly as Emi said, a pretty impossible task to have kept the news quiet until Christmas, so I'm happy that they're announcing it themselves rather than finding out through a leak. And nice they're making a big deal out of it - sure not as big a deal as a reveal show with Peter Capaldi (even though I think we all knew it was him, and Rufus Hound let it inadvertently slip by mentioning 'Peter' whilst he was being interviewed) but nice to have some build up anyhow. And not long to wait!! If it turns out to be Kris Marshall, fine. I'll be disappointed, only because it'll be someone already bandied about, not someone completely out of the blue, but I actually think he'd make a pretty good go of it and I like him a lot as an actor.
I'm very much in a "not fussed" camp though - it'd be cool for it to be someone completely left field, but I'm gonna watch it whoever they cast, even if it's Freddie Flintoff.
As for the last series, I thought it was fine. For me, personally, I don't think it's ever been as good as the David Tennant years and I doubt it will be again. I was prime child age for Doctor Who during the DT years and for me, that's been the pinnacle of the revival years so far. Having said that, I think Pearl Mackie was sensational this series, and I enjoyed Matt Lucas a lot, though I know many were annoyed by him.
However, the Capaldi years have had their moments, most notably for me, his practically one-man episode (Heaven Sent, was it?) which was a real masterclass. I did like Capaldi's Doctor, the closest to the post-revival Doctors we've had so far, and I am SO excited fo the Christmas special to see him play against David Bradley's 1st Doctor!
I think Steven Moffat should be applauded for his contribution to the series but it's definitely his time to go. I sometimes wished he'd put the same level of class into Who as he would put into Sherlock as Who sometimes became far too convoluted for its own good, but I can't say I didn't enjoy it.
Anyway, excited for a completely fresh 'start' to Who and seeing what this new era brings! Bring on Sunday!!!

Filming starts in October apparently. Mosquitoes finishes on 28th September. I'd bung a fiver on Olivia Colman.

I quite like the idea of a lady Dr Who especially after the references in the last episode of the series related to Missy and The Master. It would be wonderful if the choice wasn't any of the people who are supposedly in the running so far. I even daydreamed that they had chosen Pearl Mackie who for me was one of the best companions that the Doctor has ever had. No doubt whoever is chosen will have the same flack as most of the regenerated Doctors over the years. They are never considered to be as good as the previous one but for me they always find their own unique takes on the Doctor.

For what it's worth, I just asked Alexa for a list of who has played Doctor Who and she included Tim Roth. Missed out Hartnell, Colin Baker. McCoy and Bradley though. Top trolling ftom Amazon.

Luke Treadaway is rumoured, if they're going younger for the next Doctor, he'd make a lot of sense.

I think the next doctor will be a woman as the master became missy and she said that time lords don't have a specific gender so I think that was a clue.

Interesting, though I can't really see her doing all the running around wizzy stuff, and surely she'd be too much in demand elsewhere to commit? Peter Capaldi quit the Musketeers for Doctor Who, and his role in that wasn't big (though it was filmed somewhere continental, which I suppose is a big factor commitment-wise)

If it turns out to be Richard Ayoade, upon whom I have a HUGE crush, I might actually start watching. Otherwise I'll be avoiding like the plague because I think it's a load of old cobblers!

OMG me too, three, four...... I literally bumped into him on the stairs at Trafalgar Studios once. Face to face. (I was 3 steps further up than him.....go figure!)

I feel like it'll be a younger one again too. Possibly some bright young thing from a trendy young show none of us have heard of!
Though if we're dream casting I just saw Taron Egerton mentioned (in another context) and thought how great he'd be. I also wanted Aneruin Bevan last time and was sad (not that sad I adore Capaldi). Other dream casting, if they want to stick with the Scottish thing James McArdle is also free in the Autumn...
I'd love a woman but I feel there were too many mentions of girl Timelords in the finale- just smacked of Moffat trolling.
I personally think they should just give it to Ayoade, but not give him a script and just let him be him as the Doctor. It would be beautiful. As is he.

I'm almost certain it'll be someone whose name has been thrown about online, Peter Capaldi was the favourite to be the new Doctor in the run up to his announcement, and by the week before the companion announcement, Pearl Mackie was the favourite too. I actually put quite a bit of money on Pearl because I realised that somebody who has few TV credits and was currently in the ensemble of a West End show would not be slated for the role unless they'd definitely got it, so thanks London theatre for funding my next few London theatre trips I think the best person for the role should get it, whether they be white, black, male, female, whatever. I am a little worried because Chris Chibnall seems to be a bit of a "box ticker" based on his previous work, anyone remember that Broadchurch Series 3 scene where all of the action stopped for a bit so everyone could spontaneously have a chat about feminism and look knowingly at the camera? Olivia Colman would make a fantastic Doctor, if we were casting purely from fantasy world then I would pay a lot of money to see Julia Louis-Dreyfus be the Doctor, but then again she's so good in Veep that I wouldn't want to prise her away from that. Maybe Anna Chlumsky then? Whoever it is there'll be a bit of a backlash, the pro-social justice gang will scream "NOT ANOTHER WHITE MALE" if it's a white male and the "political correctness gone mad" lot will have a tantrum if it's not. I hope Chibbers has the sense to not look to social media to validate or determine his decisions. Doctor Who needs a gigantic shake up and I really hope he'll be the man to lead it.

I think Richard Ayoade would mean I'd stop watching. (He is very nice to look at though.)
I heard someone mention Richard Mylan which I would like but I don't know whether that was wishful thinking on that person's part.
