Saw the trailer earlier today on iPlayer, and in all honesty I was underwhelmed. I wasn’t expecting a full blown season trailer just yet but I was hoping for a little more than what was offered. A real non event for me I’m afraid.

Glad I wasn't the only person to feel that way.
It was an opportunity to sell the new series to a wide audience - and the focus was on the companions rather than the Doctor.
We need to get to know her first and then the assistants - not the other way round.
Wasted opportunity.

Except that's the complete opposite approach that the series has taken in the past.
The first episodes of both the old and new series introduce the companions and then show the impact the Doctor has on them.

I thought there would have been a few action sequence tasters even if it was the old running along the corridor footage and maybe a odd Dalek or Cyberman etc.

Except that's the complete opposite approach that the series has taken in the past. The first episodes of both the old and new series introduce the companions and then show the impact the Doctor has on them. Exactly. If you are already a viewer. you don't need to be introduced to the Doctor. Because even if the outsides change, it's still the same character you've been watching previously. If you are a newbie, you'll find out about the Doctor as the companions do. Oh, and it was only a teaser. Not a trailer. That will come a bit later. I remember when the series returned with Chris Eccleston, the only teaser we got for ages was the Tardis sitting in an alley! I admit even that was exciting to me at the time.

I'm already so excited for this series, so the teaser just added to that for me. I actually thought it did quite a good job of setting out its stall: the focus will be, as others have said above, on the companions to begin with, and there were some light-hearted touches in there too.
I hope there is a lot of focus on the companions and their 'real life' existence alongside the adventures with the Dr. Russell T Davies was a master at that with the Rose Tyler backstory with her Mum and boyfriend etc, that added a real texture to the characters.

I hope there is a lot of focus on the companions and their 'real life' existence alongside the adventures with the Dr. I'd prefer the opposite - there's now so much of this 'magical person takes ordinary Brit by the hand and takes them on emotionally fulfilling life experience' stuff. And the Doctor as Jesus figure - I'd like to see them more spiky and ambiguous.

I agree that it has been done pretty poorly / arbitrarily in later seasons, but the way it was done with Rose Tyler I thought was very unique and special - more of a long-form character development, which I think was enhanced by seeing lots of the life she left behind. Hopefully they'll find a middle ground - I'm excited by the casting, I think they'll pull it off. Bradley Walsh reminds me of a sort of Bernard Cribbins in the 60s companion.

I'd say no Daleks or Cybermen from what the new producer says in the Guardian:
“If you’ve never seen Doctor Who, or want to introduce your children or family and friends to it, this series is the perfect point to start,” Chibnall told Radio Times. “It was really important to me that there’s no barrier to entry. You don’t need to know about anything that’s come before. We’ve got a new Doctor, all-new characters, all-new monsters, all-new stories. It’s going to be exciting, emotional and the most enormous fun.”

I thought there was a contractual agreement with the BBC and the Terry Nation Estate that the Daleks had to feature at least once every season? Or is that one of those urban myth thingies like story of the time Patti LuPone let someone finish a call during the overture.

According to Stephen Moffat that's a myth, but then again the Daleks HAVE appeared every year (sometimes just as a brief cameo) so who knows. I suspect they will still appear in the shock cliffhanger to the penultimate episode.

The all-new stories thing to me just suggests no hold-overs from story arcs in previous seasons. Absolutely no reason why you couldn't have a stand-alone Dalek episode, as I suspect they will, or at least a Dalek cameo somewhere along the lines. As long as they don't then establish a new Dalek story arc off the back of it.....

Terry Nation's estate had some contractual clause about the Cybermen, he is acknowledged whenever they are used. The Daleks went several years without appearing in the late 1970's possibly because Tom Baker had already had a few stories with them and was still the Dr.

There's definitely no pact between the BBC and Nation Estate. Quite the opposite - the Daleks vanished from Dr Who in the early 70s because Nation was trying to sell a rival Dalek series to the US

The relationship between Terry Nation and his estate with the BBC has fluctuated through the years. Certainly there was no once a year agreement back in the days of the old series. There was a 5 year gap between appearances in the late sixties/early seventies. Pertwee got three Dalek stories, Baker only two and then the remaining classic Doctors got one each.
That doesn't mean there isn't a once a year agreement now, though it has been denied. Certainly there are restrictions on their use. RTD didn't know if he'd be able to use them when he brought the show back and the recent classic Who marathon on Twitch skipped the non Terry Nation written Dalek stories even when it was just a small appearance.
And yes he didn't have anything to do with the Cybermen.

Now that is a much better teaser/trailer. Showed character, personality and presence. Much more engaging than the one at the weekend.
Makes you want to watch it.

Thanks to the people for clearing up the Dalek and Cyberman Terry Nation issue.
Good to see an actual proper preview - certainly a bit Star Wars type sand dune scenes in it.
I was wondering how in a lot of stories when the Dr and female companion used to go back to certain eras, the female companion would dress in period costume but Dr stayed in his normal clothes. I hope they leave Jodie in her normal Dr attire to be consistent with it.
I'm also intrigued how the companion dynamics would work I almost feel it should be just Bradley or the younger couple not both. I just hope that one of Mandip's or Tosin's characters doesn't get pushed to the background. Hopefully they will get their fair share of lines as Bradley's character will likely be able to get more laughs from visual actions.
Also will they have a new Master, I'd assume they would go for a male one again to have the male-female axis with Jodie or do they look to get John Simm back or maybe throw a curveball and have another female master. I'd be tempted to cast a BAME actor in this role if it is recast to do something different. This isn't me being PC as I'm very un PC but think it could be an interesting dynamic.

New series starts on Sunday (!!) 7th October
Move to Sunday is good from my point of view as I'm much more likely to be able to watch live.

I wonder where they will schedule it.
Strictly Results is pretty much nailed on at 7:15pm and 9pm is way too late so 8pm opposite X-Factor or before Strictly though Countryfile is very successful in that slot.
I would expect the move to Sunday is to ensure an earlier start so pre-Strictly seems likely so 6:30pm which is a solid slot. Unless the BBC have decided X-Factor is now weak enough that they can schedule Strictly up against it and Doctor Who gets a 7:30pm slot.
