I love a bit of 'operatic' and like Alfie Boe - but does he have the staying power? I know hardly anything about this show, even less about the score, but he was off a lot in Les Mis, and I gather he's off yet again on Broadway - due to 'injury'. Seems to me he might not be the right choice here. Any ideas of who might fit the bill?

Reviews for alfie were mixed too. Alfie is also meant to be doing the us tour but i wonder if that will now happen
Personally its One of the worst shows ive ever seen. Not helped by being a fan of the film which it pretty much destroys in order to be a disney style family friendly big splashy show. Inappropriate and outdated jokes and considering the budget it has one of the ugliest sets ive ever seen

Glad I'm not alone in my disdain. I saw Tony Yazbeck though and he was brilliant.

I can only imagine how appallingAlfie Boe was in it. He's the male Katherine Jenkins- zero personality.

I can only imagine how appallingAlfie Boe was in it. He's the male Katherine Jenkins- zero personality. Actually, I think it's more to do with the fact that Alfie Boe is a classical singer and Finding Neverland isn't a classical piece. Watching the video upthread, it's obvious his voice doesn't fit the style of the piece. Incidentally, why the obsession with performers' personalities? I couldn't give a toss what a performer's personality is like (and everyone has a personality, so this 'zero personality' thing is nonsense) as long as they can sing/act. I'm not keen on Katherine Jenkins as a performer, but it has nothing to do with her personality and everything to do with her voice sounding, to my ears, like she's attempting to sing with her mouth full of syrup!

I just cannot visualize Alfie doing the Act 1 ending of Stronger with the pirates.

Maybe personality is the wrong word but you need charisma and stage presence and neither really has those. Personality does count when on the promotional circuit
Alfie is really a weak actor based on les mis

So is Alfie out completely or is Tony just coming back to cover him? I do rather hope it at least means he's no longer doing London, i'm just not excited about him in the role, especially after hearing clips but i'm excited for the show itself. If he does still do it I guess I can catch his understudy when he's on.

Can we start a 'No to Boe' petition to try and stop Alfie from being cast in the London production. Anyone with me?

Why be so specific with your 'No to Boe' campaign? I think that he is much better suited to America...or Russia...or Borneo.

Can we start a 'No to Boe' petition to try and stop Alfie from being cast in the London production. Anyone with me? I quite like Alfie Boe, I read his book and everything. He always comes across as a decent enough guy as well so the no personality thing seems a little unfair!

Carolee Carmello has just tweeted that Tony Yazbeck is staying with the show on Broadway, so I assume Alfie isn't coming back after all. His voice didn't mesh with the song style imo, and he's not much of a mover. He was a casting choice I could never quite understand. I enjoy this show a lot - total guilty pleasure I have to admit!

I would like to see this in London as have wanted to watch for a while. If Boe does come over and open I might wait for a cast change. Alfie does have a fabulous voice but after watching clips of him performing Neverland on US breakfast shows I'm not sure he'd be my first pick for the lead I'd want to see, as someone said his operatic voice isn't what you imagine especially when you listed to MM in the OCR recording.
Obviously it's horses for courses so for some they would love to see him in the role.

'Set sail on an adventure'. Ahh they were some of the lyrics to the old incarnation of the show. Wouldn't be surprised if Jersey Boys moves to a smaller theatre.

My ideal cast would be: -Ramin Karimloo as JM Barrie -Louise Dearman as Sylvia -Kelsey Grammer as Hook/Frohman

If this does come to London, and I hope it will, another name that has just come to mind who I would like to see as Sylvia is Emma Williams.

Really? Interesting. I can't say I'm sad about that. Without doubt the worst thing I've seen all year. Just bizarre on so many levels.
