Marisha on today.
Does that mean ALL 3 dreams are off?!
Liisi tweeted she's ill so that's why she is off

Saw the show last night for my birthday. Proper review to come, but we had not one but two understudies.
I'd read about Marisha the other day on Facebook - odd she is not listed in the programme. She was sensational and more than made up for any disappointment at not seeing Amber.
Signs up around the theatre saying that Amber was indisposed. The theatre management however must have decided not to notify us that Liisi LaFontaine was off too. So, I spent to the first half hour trying to work out who was playing who!
I have seen Lily Frazer in In The Heights, but my friend and I both agreed she was WAY out of her depth to play such a big role of Deena. Neither vocally or acting performance wise, she simply didn't cut it and didn't have the presence required, especially to hold her own with Marisa. This was the only disappointing part of what was otherwise a top notch evening.

I didn't have a slip in my programme when I saw Karen on Monday. Also, there was no announcement so I didn't know whom I'd see until she went on (I've only found the cast list in the interval). I'm guessing the slip is just because Marisha isn't in the programme at all, whilst Karen is. But the promoting of Marisha in the role was everywhere yesterday, there were A4 posters promoting it everywhere you looked in the foyers and bars. There was this horrible queen behind me who was saying to his friend something like "I can't believe they didn't call us and tell us Amber wasn't on, we didn't pay to see this, we paid Amber Riley prices, not anyone else!". The best part then being, when Marisha ran on for her first scene, every person around him, myself and some of his friends who clearly thought he was being disrespectful too, cheered and applauded her. Stupid queen! Good for you!

So all three dreams off tonight which meant understudies / alternates were on, four if you don't the fact that Lily Frazer performing as Deena meant that her cover needed to be Michelle. Another great response to Marisha, standing ovation for I am telling you, nearly another one for I am Changing. She is phenomenal. Superb cast overall. Biggest gripe? The theatre was so cold. Unbelievably so.. I know it's freezing outside but it's a full house. Surely they could afford a few coins in the meter. Wait, so Ibinabo Jack wasn't performing last night either?? And yes, the theatre was freezing - I put my coat and scarf on for act 2 - it would have been the aircon on too high I'd imagine. We had cold air coming from above our heads.

No Jocasta Algmill has been on as Lorell - was she good? I'm surprised Lily is 1st cover Deena because Kimmy Edwards got great reviews when she went on as Deena as did Candace Fubert as Lorell. Was Carly Dyer good as Michelle? Glad you enjoyed it and good to hear Marisha is good

Whst I heard of Lily in In the Heights (granted she was ill) she has no place playing Deena in this at all. She was good as Michelle even though it is a small role, and she looks stunning, as she always does, she was amazing in Cats, but her voice, I can't imagine suiting Deena at all, I don't see her having that power.

Glad you enjoyed it and good to hear Marisha is good I thought Jocasta was superb! In a show which is all about being the star and main singer in a girl group, having a sub-bar Deena really derails the integrity of the story. i.e. it made it hard to be convinced that Deena would be good enough to be promoted to lead singer!

I also saw it last night, and although I was upset not to see Amber, Marisha more than made up for it, she was fantastic and thoroughly deserved her standing ovation mid song! Adam J Bernard as Jimmy is the stand out for me, he has to get an Olivier for this! Agree - he is a marvel! Even, having seen a understudy/alternate cast last night, I though the principals were uniformly excellent, with just the one aforementioned weak link...

I did see the show yesterday. A few random thoughts: Why is the cast list hidden so well between mostly ATG ads on the TV screens in the foyer? Only accidentally happened to see it there. The auditorium was terribly cold. The programme is actually quite nice but £8 are a bit pricey. The audience was awful. Mid-song screaming and cheering and shouting - what's wrong with people? Karen Mav was on as Effie, and she was quite good actually. What did I forget? Oh yes, the show itself. It's a bit meh I'm afraid. Neither particularly bad nor particularly good. Samey and forgettable score - I only like the disco/upbeat version of One Night Only. Book is a bit random and I really didn't like the happy ending. Costumes were, however, gorgeous. All in all, been there done that, unless someone I'll desperately want to see is cast I won't be returning. I think the ending is improved in the film - there is a bit more resolution to it - the addition of the daughter helps. As for audiences, it's because there are younger, very mainstream, less "serious" theatre goer crowd who would never darker the door of the latest Sondheim production or fringe show. I know, it's quite a jarring contrast!

I blame the TV talent shows, where the audience are actively encourage to applaud at random moments - two bars into a song, mid-song, tempo change, chorus, keychange...etc! The weirdest one was during this year's Strictly final, when the audience started clapping along to the tense 'waiting for the results to be announced' music! Yeah, and unfortunately the type of crowd attracted to this show are mainly young, non-regular theatregoers who have been brought up to know no different.

Im all for a standing ovation at the end of the song, just let me hear the full song first! It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to bed. As the musical is fairly conceptual and sung-through in structure, mercifully it doesn't give the audiences more opportunities to respond like in the old school stop/start song structure.

Yea..I don't know if she did go on for Liisi (she is the first understudy) or if they are just confused. In any way, Lily Fraser, despite her small role as Michelle, struggles. I can't believe they're now letting her go on as Deena. She just ain't up at to that standard!

Also the Savoy does not have a sign saying who is in the cast, when I pointed this out to an usher I was told to buy a programme.... That's what's momentarily shown on the TVs in the foyer - when they're not showing ads for other ATG shows:. It takes a while for the information to be displayed... But as I've said above: I only happened to accidentally see this while standing in the foyer in the interval, and my programme didn't have an understudy slip either. Thanks I didn't see that when I went

So they advertise it includes the song Listen, but it's not the song people know and expect, it's the same title, same tune, completely different lyrics... Which is exactly what's happened! As I said to my friend, the only lyric that remained was the word "listen" !!!!
