Starring Tom Chambers (who starred in it at the Watermill) plus this addition:
I saw this at the Watermill and really enjoyed it! A lot like the Watermill production of Calamity Jane (with Jodie Prenger) that toured in 2015.
Should be interesting with Caroline!

She always sounds like she's been shouting for hours and has lost her voice. God only know what she'll be like as an 'actress'. Cant bear the woman

I didn't even know flackers could sing, although tbh haven't seen anything from the show so maybe she doesn't need to sing?!? Off to Google to find out who the heck Irene is and if she sings and whether Caroline can sing. Wish me luck getting out of youtube found it sucks the time out my life if head on there!!!

It's actor musician by the looks of the trailer? or are the band just getting a bit more "involved"? www.crazyforyoutour.com

I think it's rather brave of Caroline Flack to decide that the 'main' female role was beyond her, and she would be better suited to the more minor role. I suspect many in her position wouldn't have reached that decision.

I saw this last night, sadly I think my review is 'wild indifference'. There's nothing particularly wrong with it, but there's nothing particularly great about it either.
Actual negatives I could tease out: the actor-musician element is nice, but it limits the dancing (and space on stage even in the WMC) and personally I think this is a piece that would benefit from some bigger dance routines- espcially having cast the Strictly folks. In that respect it never really takes off. The actor-musicians also mean it's a bit of a muted sound in what could be some really big numbers.
Performances: Sorry to say Caroline Flack isn't great and I was rooting for her, in fairness it's the first week and I think with time she'll grow into it, it's not a big part or a difficult one so I think she needs time to settle it all feelt a bit stilted. Chambers is great, he does a good line in slapstick and has some good comic timing in general, as well as being a charming leading man and good singer. The enesemble are a great bunch who work really hard and pull off some excellent comedy too.
The music is, as expected great, but let down a bit by the slightly muted sound of the smaller orchestra.
Dancing is...not as good as I'd have hoped. A few good routines from Chambers but I'd have liked more- and a more variety than his tap routines and one ballroom ish bit.
It was a nice enough evening out, and as I say there's nothing actually bad about it just nothing to make it stand out as a really great show.

These were my fears, i loved the original production of crazy for you but after being disappointed by the regents park production i was holding off on this one. For me its a show thats pure broadway glitz and glam, needs a decent orchestra, big production numbers and not be limited by a small set/space

What disappointed me most about the park version is it had taken so much from the original..but didn't do it so well. Also the leading lady was awful

Yes they had to add an additonal credit for the transfer.
I didnt see Ruthie in it (cant remember who it was) but didnt like Claire Foster (?), she was a bit too rootin tootin, kinda reminded me of jessie from toy story

I will say that this is it's first week and I feel like once the actors grow into their parts a bit/settle into the show it'll all be much slicker and therefore all the better for it. There really is nothing intrinsically bad about it and I'd still recomend it to particularly the casusal musical theatre lover as a nice night out.

I really didn't like this in Plymouth either (which I'm pretty sure was the first location of the tour). I'd really wanted to see it at the Watermill but timings didn't work out so I was looking forward to seeing this on tour. I saw a review that said it leaves you smiling. The day after watching it my sister said "Hey, I'm smiling because I'm so happy I'm not at the theatre having to watch "Crazy for You" any more!". We both thought it hadn't been worth the trip to the theatre for us.
I also agree that the dancing wasn't great. Made me wonder why I loved Tom Chambers in Top Hat. I think I'm going to have to avoid these actor musician type productions. I found the instruments really distracting especially during the dances. It reminded me of the line in 42nd Street about the musicians being in the pit for a reason. Obviously a very different reason but it really made me wish there was an orchestra in the pit. I do think that it's nice they can find such talented performers who can also play instruments but it's not my cup of tea. Then there was the standard let's make our lead play an instrument briefly just like there was when I saw Singing in the Rain in Salisbury.
The slapstick comedy bit was in my opinion painful to watch and dragged on for what seemed like forever. It's not often that I wish a musical would end but that was one of those moments.

I saw Crazy For You last week and absolutely loved it! I'm not usually a great fan of actor musician productions but this one is really inventive and the instruments were an integral part of the staging and added a lot to the production as a whole. I saw the Prince Edward production back in the day and liked this new one as much, albeit for different reasons. The new staging within the theatre they are trying to save is really effective and the performances and story really in focus. Tom Chambers is born to play the role and Charlotte Wakefield is feisty and fun as Polly. Caroline Flack is the weak link but doesn't get much stage time. The Gershwin songs are top notch - who could ask for anything more?!! Do give it a try as you may be pleasantly surprised. I certainly was!
