When attempting to get off the train this afternoon I had to wait while 2 people with bikes who were completely blocking the lobby got off first. Except that they, especially the first person, were so slow that the train doors closed before I could get off. I had to go on to the next station, get off, & get another train back. Extremely hacked off. Ouch. That is ridiculously slow then. How very annoying. |

Got a ticket to see Steve Martin and Martin Short st the Royal Albert Hall in March, yes it cost £120 but I’m in the block next to the stage, only 4 rows back from the front (I found it extremely easy to refrain from buying a £200 ticket that included a tote bag, a laminate and a ‘mystery gift’ which was probably a programme or a hat) YAY!

Having a moan this morning...
I already knew this but it brought it home this morning about how rude and selfish people are in London.
Due to an ongoing knee problem I am back to walking with a stick. Just had a lovely week in Menorca where everyone was so friendly and nice and accommodating.
Back to London and realise how self absorbed and selfish people are. Came back from Gatwick with suitcase and stick, struggling but managed to get onto train. No seats free, no one offers me one so have to stand.
Coming back from Falsettos on Thursday night. Get on train, no seats and no offers even though plenty of young and able people sitting in the priority seats.
On bus this morning, same thing, stood all the way and coming back my shopping bag fell over, food all over the floor and people just sat there watching me struggle to pick things up.
Anyway I am home with a cup of tea now so calming down and rant over!

Northern Ballet are in town this week, so I've had a very enjoyable morning watching company class. Ballet dancers really are superhuman!
Just watching was exhausting, so I'm going to spend the afternoon taking it easy and watching the cycling on the TV. 🚲

We know about priority seats on the tube etc. Time and again I watch Londoners leave the seat empty - even at busy times, and a non-Londoner park themselves in it. Right, as of today I'm officially an old git. This is manifestly true due to my actual age but for the first time ever I had it confirmed as someone offered up the priority seat they were occupying on the tube. This surprised me as, although I think I look my age, I had none of the accoutrements i.e. I wasn't a sartorial symphony in beige or carrying a stick and my posture was as erect as....well, never mind. Worse, I was so taken aback that my manners were found wanting and I uttered a curt no, without thanking the nice guy that offered it. |

Have left it too late to hoover cobwebs as spider nursery has dispersed and now too difficult to not hoover them up too.
The nightly death show of spider versus daddylonglegs is giving me alarming dreams. Just as well I visited the hp studio tour a few weeks back or those giant spiders could have set off a nervous reaction.

I'm slightly concerned that I nearly always get offered a seat on the Tube. This must mean either that I look 100 or am about to keel over. Or it may be the fact that I stare pointedly at several people until one of them cracks!
Once, when I was genuinely taken ill on the bus and had to ask for a seat, it was noticeable that three young ladies leapt to their feet, whilst the men buried their heads in their phones, papers or whatever.

Most lines they are the seats nearest to the doors but are always marked as such. With regard to the Londoners comment I didn't necessarily mean people who are from London I meant people in London. Funny thing is before I needed the stick I was offered seats more than I am now. I nearly always gave a polite no thanks and thought do I look that old or frail which made me determined to stand. Back to work tomorrow after 2 weeks hols and I cant wait to tackle the rush hour. |

I'll pay more attention next time i'm on a tube though now you've said it i'm picturing the sign that I think goes with them so I must have clocked them on some level. |

Just come from hospital appointment about a broken tooth. I was expecting a wait of several weeks at the very least for the complex extraction [ as waited 6 months for todays appointment]. Surprise - they are doing it Wednesday afternoon. It is a coincidence my oldest son is having the same thing done tomorrow in America.- at a cost of £800.

I was a bit frustrated to realise I couldn't book online using all my birthday theatre tokens,but I rang the Dominion Theatre and a lovely lady very patiently redeemed £100 in £10 vouchers!
I shall be organised for my next trip to London in Nov and hopefully book the rest in person.

After 5.5 weeks without a boiler, I'm so relieved that a replacement has been fitted today and is the top-rated brand rather than the worst-rated - which came new with the house, as did all our appliances and white goods. Shame about the previous 4 service visits when the plumber spent hours trying in vain to revive the old model, as we obviously still have to pay for all the parts and labour; shame too that we were planning to sell the house and could've done without spending £3,000+ on something we hope not to be around to use for long, but at least the new boiler should see us through the winter and reassure potential buyers.

Finished watching the Netflix show Unbelievable last night. Very harrowing but gripping TV. I hope people who tend to not believe women when they report rape watch it and think twice.

Just spent nearly an hour talking online to 3 different Amazon customer service people cancelling the book "The Phantom of the Opera: Behind the Scenes at the Palais Garnier" after seeing it has been put back until September next year. They cancelled it but still charged my giftcard. It still shows as pending but not worried as got money back. Feel like a stiff drink but on granny duties later so can't.

Today is the most important day of the year in the Steel City. Our new Master Cutler was installed just a few hours ago.
The procession is always my favourite part. Not only do I love a bit of pomp and circumstance, but it's also a rare opportunity to give my very stylish morning suit and top hot an airing. 🎩 I did get some right funny looks, though, when I popped into Greggs for a large sausage roll and small custard.*
It's not something I'm proud of, but I have to confess to slight cape envy. A former Mistress Cutler, and generous patron of the world-famous Crucible Theatre, was wearing a lovely green velvet one! I wonder if she'll lend it to me?
*Not all of this paragraph is strictly true.

I seem to recall it was someone on here (The Bear perhaps?) who suggested, in relation to decluttering, ordering 30 bags from British Heart Foundation's website and arranging a collection... I did the former, though not the latter, and took the first 10 or so filled bags to my local BHF shop a few weeks back. Email yesterday said they've raised £442 so far. The BHF thanks you, whoever it was!

It was all going so well. Suddenly Niagra Falls sound in the kitchen and massive flood onto the cooker from the ventilation whatever which does end up on roof somewhere. Lasted several bowls full and many many towels.. under control. Leak also in the workshop but we have managed to isolate to the workshop and not in the kitchen. Need sunny day tomorrow.
