oh dear, hope you can get sorted lynette , not sure where you are in the country as fear the forecast is pretty soggy. It stopped raining which helped and a guy sorted it in the morning. Then today my front door key bent and I couldn’t open the door. My daughter was in thank goodness but I’m thinking a third thing might go wrong. My mother in law used to go and smash a jam jar in the garden when two things went wrong, to make the third 😂 so I’m looking for a jam jar just now.

I'm clearly going soft in my old age. After arriving home from the 'fresh' Yorkshire coast, I've put the heating on, just to take the chill off.
I broke my journey from Scarbados in Hull, where I decided it was too cold for a Cooplands cheese sandwich, so popped into McDonalds instead, where there was a real life loadsamoney telling everyone, at the top of his voice, that in London he earns a grand a week just by moving boxes. He wasn't such a big man when he got ejected by a woman twice his age and half his size!

Can't tell left from right? No problem. Just drive down the middle of the road until you figure it out. (Brown underpants time for me.)

My theatre-going life has now been complicated by the fact that Waitrose paella has been reformulated and is no longer microwaveable. My favourite post-theatre rapid meal is no longer as rapid.

Iceland: 3 690g tins of Quality Street for £10. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day sorted. Result. I'm hoping that means that you will have a lot of family visiting you rather than getting through 3 tins in 3 days on your own!

I really hate hackers/spammers - had a spam email today which suggested that an old email account I used to use had been compromised and my webcam hacked. I suspect it isn't entirely true as I have very strong anti-virus software, and even if it is nothing of note has been compromised as I don't use the account and nothing sensitive is stored on my laptop, but still gave me a fright.

I've started listening to R3 in the evening. I wondered why as it wasn't a conscious decision. It seems to be the least insane place I can find.

I used to get loads of those "We've hacked your webcam and we have pictures of you" messages, which wouldn't have been convincing even if I actually had a webcam, but I haven't had any for a while now. The most annoying ones for me are the painfully artificial-sounding recorded "This is your ISP we are going to cut off your Internet connection in 24 hours" phone calls.
Why isn't "Recognising a scam" a mandatory course in school these days? Bulk-contacting people is so cheap and easy that the scammers only need a tiny fraction of a percent of their contact list to swallow the bait to make millions. How to be suspicious should be a part of everyone's education.

I had someone call from something ‘Liberty’ informing me of the success of their campaign and leading into a call for another funding campaign. The guy had a foreign accent, possibly Indian subcontinent and referred to the name of my son but as if it were a surname. Does anyone know about this? I assumed it was a scam and told him to put it in writing and post to me. I didn't give my address of course or any details. A bit weird. If not a scam then bl***y awful pitch. If a scam quite subtle.

Good evening out with a friend (not sure if this is the right thread to comment! ) Went to see Chitty chitty bang bang at my local theatre. I think it is very important to support local talent (especially young people) and local theatre. Our theatre sits approximately 600 people and is now starting to bring in big shows (mousetrap, Buddy holly) and still has on local amateur productions. They’ve been brilliant.

I have a general question, wondering if anyone can help. Is it a good idea to tell your boss about depression/mental health? To add some context, I have been in the job only 4 months, which makes me a bit reluctant to bring anything up, I've had one day off due to mental health and usually I'm fine to work but sometimes it does affect my ability. More so just lately. Anyone have experience with this they don't mind sharing?

A road trip to Windsor, first time visit to both the Town and Theatre.
One of the rare occasions that the car was easier and cheaper than the train even including the cost of parking which nowadays is the costliest part of any trip by car.

It's difficult to open up about not being the perfect employee, but it's not in the company's interest to drive you to the point where you can't go on and then have to go through the rigmarole of replacing you if there's some simple change they could make that would resolve the problem. I've been having difficulties at work and was panic-stricken about raising them, but so far everyone's been willing to find ways to meet in the middle.

I find that I feel worse if I'm not honest about it, as I spent so many years not being honest with myself and that nearly broke me. I haven't told many at my current job yet, except for a few colleagues at my level, but I will do if I feel I need to - I'm in a slightly better place at the minute so I don't feel the need to, though I would disclose if there was an event on mental health, for example.

My birthday today. Travelled to one of the most delightful uplifting musicals I've seen for a long time. Daddy Long Legs at the Barn Theatre in Cirencester. Superb cast of two, just pure theatrical magic.
It followed my visits to two other small-cast shows in the last few days. Tick Tick Boom at Bridge House Theatre and Islanders at Southwark Playhouse. I actually enjoyed all three more than Curtains, Grease and Lion King (row AA at Bristol Hippodrome is not to be recommended!)

Another point: it helps greatly to offer a solution at the same time and focus on what you can achieve. "I can't do that but I can do this instead" comes across a lot better than "I can't do that so now it's your problem".

Thanks for all the replies, it seems the general consensus is to be honest about it.

I'm hoping that means that you will have a lot of family visiting you rather than getting through 3 tins in 3 days on your own! Oh, they can have most of the toffee ones, so that's that sorted . Just had a box and the hard, chocolate covered toffee in the brown wrapper has been replaced by a softer Chocolate Caramel Brownie. Is that more for you Monkey?

I enjoy most musical theatre but what I love most of all is seeing a show for the first time and being totally blown away by it, as happened yesterday with Daddy Long Legs in Cirencester. No better birthday surprise. for a musicals fanatic like me. Booked a return visit for the final performance on 2 November.

Is that more for you Monkey? They've got rid of the toffee pennies?! I haven't eaten Quality Street for years but I'm still annoyed to read that. I have nostalgic memories of those toffee pennies in childhood, including the time I lost a tooth on one!
