Today I'm back at it in the office for the first time in almost 7 months. So how dusty and spiderwebby was it?
(I'm sure there must be some people who have gone back to work to discover that someone didn't empty the fridge and now they need a crowbar and a flamethrower.)
Very! somebody left some fresh soup in the fridge - I'm staying well away.

The amount of people on my social media going to vote today but complaining they haven't had any election leaflets. Firstly, we should all be trying to use less paper and secondly, if you can use social media you can bloody well Google thr info you need for the election! /rantover

After I'd been to the Polling Station, I went exploring in the woods. I had a few close shaves when I was a paperboy, but for the first time in my long and eventful life, I was bitten by a dog. A proper, skin puncturing bite it is too, with blood. It int 'alf throbbing.
I'll probably wake up tomorrow with lockjaw, or worse!

Oh dear, what was the dog's owners response assuming there was one?

Oh dear, what was the dog's owners response assuming there was one? I'm not sure she saw what happened, and if she did, she didn't say anything, so I decided not to say anything either. I usually see her in the park, where her dogs are always on their leads, and she always strikes me as someone who already finds life a bit of a challenge, without me adding to her woes.

I voted yesterday. I put a cross in the box for Labour and spoilt other paper. Felt dirty voting for Labour and want to state now it was not in any way a vote for Keir and the centrists. The candidate was a mate of my brothers from the left of the party who I was informed was a good lad, a fireman who had had quite a tough life after coming out in the 1970's.

And what did you do to it to make it bite you? 😠

I think, BurlyBeaR, somehow Alfie thought I was you. 🤣 First and last time I hope. Anyway, thanks for asking how I am...with half my calf missing.

After a right palaver trying to book a vaccine, I had it booked for today! Sadly, I woke up with a banging headache and feeling sick to my stomach (bit unfair as I hadn’t been drinking) so I called 119 and they said I shouldn’t attend if I’m not 100% so defeated, I went back to bed. Feel improved this evening, still a bit woozy but not longer nauseous so hopefully just a bit of a bug n I can rearrange soon! Fingers crossed!!

Roxie How annoying for you. Most people feel a bit like that after having the vaccine, not before!

Roxie How annoying for you. Most people feel a bit like that after having the vaccine, not before! I know!! I don't know whether it was a bit of a bug, or if Ive been overdoing things last week (possible) and it all just caught up on me! On Friday night I did a really intense workout, kicked my own trash really hard so maybe that was just the final straw!! Who knows? I am a bit weird in that I can overdo things without any warning signs for a while then I just get ill all of a sudden like it all catches up on me! I'm OK today, right as rain!!!

Wendy's burgers are to return to the UK after an absence or 20 years. I always liked Wendy's, and their social media comments are wonderful. I hope there's one near me. (The first few aren't, unfortunately.)

Had optician appointment today, went into town to big council car park and it was like christmas, when you have to queue to wait for someone to leave. Am so used to everywhere being empty I couldn't believe my eyes. So hope now can get some use of the contacts I've ordered, I only wear them for sport, theatre rain risk or faint risk so minimal usage in last year meant mine were all out of date. How frustrating Roxie about the jab, but you did the right thing, hope you can get booked in again soon.

I couldn't;t have gone I didn't even feel I could speak let alone drive. Felt soo rough - most odd!

This is not so much random and maybe more plays but didn't know where to put it so....
My 14 niece announced a few weeks back that she was studying much ado at school and they were watching excerpts of the Branagh film. I thought it was maybe a missed opportunity to watch another more recent stage version but you know was pleased and said I looked forward to discussing it. Spoke to her yesterday, she said they have just got up to the gulling scene and their teacher has said they don't need to read any more of it as their exam will be on B and B's view on marriage and they just need to learn 20 quotes. Sigh. What a waste. Studying Shakespeare when I was at school was I swear a list of quotes but i'd rather hoped it had moved on a bit from that. Also I don't see how you could have a full picture of B and B's view on marriage without well the whole flipping play anyway.

I did my GCSEs about 15 years ago and Shakespeare was coursework for the exam board I did, so we didn't have to learn any of it. Did have to learn To Kill A Mockingbird pretty much off by heart though, quotes were required and topics were broad enough that we had to learn loads of them. For A Level I had to learn King Lear and part of the Canterbury Tales off by heart!

I did To Kill a Mockingbird for GCSE as well and there were bits the teacher used to skip, including an entire chapter that I think featured some sort of family reunion. Keep meaning to reread it but never get around to it.

I am so saddened by the previous posts. How can you learn anything if you don't read the whole text? Back in my day, medieval times of course, we were not told which ‘quotes’ to learn or what ideas to learn. Even when I was teaching the kids read the whole text, even the opaque bits. How i enjoyed explaining the opening scenes of R&J with its rude insults! I’ve since seen the diluting of the texts, particularly Shakespeare. V sad. I find that kids respond to a challenge and know when they are short changed. Less leads to less and less...

We read and dissected the whole text, including for coursework (it just meant we didn't have to memorise it in that case), and we weren't told which quotes to learn or subjects to study. There was no cutting corners!

Whilst I am glad @posterj that was not your experience I agree with lynette. I studied english lit to degree level and looking back I query what I learnt, school was very much the three themes are this, this and this. This character is bad because.......... and I was at a grammar school. Uni did require one to think fortunately though I can't remember learning much about Shakespeare and I studied it. I've learnt far more on here. I try to get my niece to talk about it but I think the idea that there isn't just one way of reading it and that there aren't always pat answers is alien to what she is taught. And she loves to read and do drama so she really ought to be captive audience.

The teachers just let us get on with it - I remember not liking any of the coursework titles the teacher suggested so I made up my own from other literature quotes and instead of getting annoyed at me the teacher let me do whichever one I wanted and asked if she could keep the other ones for her list for next year. I loved English Lit, I wish I'd taken it on to degree level.
