So I discovered that it's possible to break into the casing of an external hard drive using a kitchen knife! Reminds me of when Big Clive on YouTube was showing how a decorative light bulb worked. He said "let's look inside it with an X-Ray", brought into view a hammer labelled X-RAY, and revealed what was inside the bulb.

Email from Amazon 13.44: "We thought you'd like to know that we've dispatched this portion of your order separately to give you a quicker service". Email from Amazon 15.52: "We thought you'd like to know that we've dispatched the remainder of your items". How can dispatching one item 2 hours and 6 minutes earlier make any significant difference to its arrival? Both parcels are due to arrive on Saturday & it's been a long time since we've had more than one postal delivery per day so surely they'll just arrive together!

Have they been sent from the same warehouse?

Yes I've had that before and usually it's because they came from different warehouses. Mind you last year in lockdown I did a John Lewis boredom shop. Ordered 4 items with named day delivery and i had 4 separate deliveries that day, each about 30 mons apart. Talk about carbon footprint.

Out of curiosity, is there tracking? Have they been sent from the same warehouse? I can't tell. When I click on the "Track your package" button in the email the web pages that comes up for both just say "Dispatched today".

Dawnstar, I get baffled by these Amazon delivery policies too. When I had my recent covid scare, my sister ordered me a care package from Amazon: canned soup, honey, vitamins, tea, tissues, ramen... that sort of stuff. It arrived as four different deliveries, three of which were on the same day, 20-30 minutes between them. My flatmates thought I'd gone mad with shopping, because they just kept coming around lunchtime, it was really funny.

A couple of weeks ago Amazon told me a package was going to be delivered a day earlier than I was expecting. Sure enough, a package arrived on that earlier date, but it wasn't my package. It wasn't my name or my address. Somehow they'd managed to track it as the wrong item and nobody, including the person who posted it through the door, noticed that the place it was going was nothing like the place it was supposed to go. I can understand that it might have had the wrong barcode applied in the warehouse, but surely there must be some point where someone looks at the actual address.
My actual parcel turned up the next day, completely untracked. Which is even more confusing, because if my tracking information was associated with the wrong parcel then what tracking was associated with the right one? How did it reach me if they already considered it delivered?

bonnets, so they're dressing several centuries old? Yeah, I didn't quite get that, either. And they live in Florida, so it's not like they've never seen old folks before.

One of my neighbours has a car that beeps when he locks it with the remote, and the beep sounds exactly like the scanner used by delivery people scanning barcodes and at a volume that sounds like it's just outside my door. Every time he gets home it makes me think I'm about to receive a parcel, even when I'm not expecting anything. It's been several weeks now and I'm still not used to it.

Yesterday our boiler broke for the second time in 3 and a half months. Fortunately the heating company were able to send a workman that afternoon and it was quickly fixed, just a loose connection. However I'm not impressed with the boiler for breaking twice during a pandemic after years of working fine!

I'd say it was extra usage but strictly off during the day.

Just picked up Theatremonkey's updated seating plan guide from the Amazon locker (called Brian. Why are Amazon lockers given names?) in my local Morrisons. Any excellent guide and with Baz tweeting new theatre show information last night and more productions now going on sale, it's great to actually to be able to have something new to put into the theatre diary.

Just ordered it. I still regularly use his old one.

This story is a couple of days old but it's only just come to my attention, so...
There was a book on Amazon that represented gender identity as a mental illness. When it was drawn to Amazon's attention the company decided it was offensive and withdrew the book from sale. In the US a group of Republican senators were outraged about this attack on the bigotry they hold dear and said it was unfair to single out this book in this manner.
"You're quite right", Amazon said. "We shouldn't single it out. We'll ban every book that treats LGBTQ+ issues as mental illness."

Thank you! To the powers-that-be, do you think it would be appropriate to have a new topic where we could collect information on shows and theaters that are re-opening?

Browsing around the Internet I came across a screenshot of an advertisement for an advanced Internet-connected smart toilet. It promises a "fully immersive experience".
I don't know about anyone else, but when it comes to my expectations of what I would hope to experience from a toilet anything that can be described by the phrase "fully immersive" comes very far down the list.

The big unveiling of the new UK Govt. Media briefing room at a cost of £2.6 million pounds for the renovation. I was hoping for something a bit more for the money spent. It just looks really ugly. I just hope at that price the room comes with one of those clicker devices for the slide shows.
