Worried about my external hard drive. It's making very odd noises 7 not working after being hit by a lamp falling from a height after being accidentally knocked over by a teddy bear.

"We're now joined from our Manchester studio by BurlyBeaR , official spokesbear for the British Bear Coalition." I would like to point out to the British Bear Coalition that I caught the teddy bear so she came to no harm. In hindsight I should have left her to fall & caught the now-broken lamp instead! I’ve instructed my client Teddy to say nothing. We will see you at the tribunal Dawnstar !! Her name is Fifi. She's a Forever Friends bear. FF = Fifi.

My click and collect has offered me a replacement flavour of icecream I don't like, disappointment Your post was the excuse I needed to run to the corner shop during the interval of The Color Purple this evening and give in to my ice cream craving. Thank you. Always happy to oblige! I am back from my mud slide around today and decided to mark the occasion of a walk which was so warm with the sun out that I got down to one layer (can't remember what last happened) by having an ice lolly, it's important to free up freezer space after all.

Absolutely. In that same spirit, the tub of Haagen Dazs I bought during said interval last night is now all gone.

Feeling depressed reading all the rumours/leaks about lockdown ending & knowing I'm not going to be vaccinated still for months & will be too scared to do anything before being vaccinated. Last night I had a splitting headache & was so scared in case it was covid that I had a panic attack at 1.30am.

Personally i won’t break going near anyone I haven't been near over the last year. Fortunately we can rely on the British summer to allow time outside slowly adjusting. As for the vaccination, looks like we will be getting through fast. I know people in early 40s being called now. Yep, that young! Depends where you live I think. So if a goodly number are vaccinated and quite a few with the double dose, you can be reassured Dawnstar and make plans to go out and about later in the summer.

At the moment I am more than happy to avoid everyone but if the theatre re-open in May I know I'm going to be painfully torn between being desparate to go to the theatre & being terrified to travel down to London unprotected. I don't know anyone in my area under their late 60s who has been vaccinated yet so I fear I still have a very long wait.

It's not just you Dawnstar it all sounds like madness to me, why when adults aren't even scheduled to have had first vaccine till the end of july remove all things in june? I'm not expecting to go anywhere for months and months yet, we're still in 65 plus vaccinating where I am. I'm not sure I'm in any fit state to deal with real life people any more anyway and if we're not wearing masks my scowl will be all too visible !

peggs It feels as though all they care about is keeping severe illness low enough so the NHS isn't overwhelmed. No consideration for people under 50 because they're are unlikely to require hospitalization in extremely large numbers, so presumably a few deaths & lots with illness for weeks/months is fine as collateral damage.
The thought of going back to work & sitting in an office for 8 hours with hundreds of other people, plus the crowded commute, makes me want to curl up & die.

Waiting to see what works does, I don't think they'll ever make everyone come back all the time, too many people like working remotely, it saves on travel etc and they must be thinking about cutting office space to save money. There will however be instances where you're required to attend etc and I wonder how long saying nope don't feel safe will be an option. I think months still but wouldn't be surprised if my boss suggests having a real life meeting at some point, she's never seemed very worried or bothered by the rules. I don't have an issue saying I'm not comfortable now but in the months to come I wonder just how much choice we'll all have. Perhaps ironically the older people in my team are the ones more comfortable being in and those nearer my age much more cautious.
Yeah who'd have thought being over 50 would suddenly seem advantageous?!

I do have the advantage that I'm a temp so can refuse to take a job until I feel safe. I already turned down one I was offered in December for starting in January, though I suspect it would have been cancelled anyway with the latest lockdown. However no job = no income & while that's okay when there's very little to spend money on once I start wanting to go to the theatre again I'll be running out of money. The other problem is that the company I temp for has previously allowed permanent staff to work from home sometimes but never temps so if I do accept a job at some point then I imagine I'll have to be in the office all day, every day.

Advantages of Internet purchasing: You can still buy pretty much anything even during lockdown.
Disadvantages of Internet purchasing: Cardboard boxes and bubble wrap. So many cardboard boxes. So much bubble wrap. So many. So much.

Trying to decide if this would be breaking the only meet up with 1 other person rule. Tomorrow my mother is meeting a friend to go for a walk. If I went with my mother in the car but then walked a significant distance in front/behind her & her friend, say 100 yards, would that be breaking the spirit of the law. I can't decide.

Can't see why not. No different if you were walking behind a random stranger at a distance. Just happens that you know this person. Plus you are outside.

My mother finally let me book her jab yesterday after 2 weeks of refusing.
Today whilst on a video call with my boss she comes in waving the papers which had a picture of the queen on it and something about get jabbed for the benefit of others and jabbering on about thank goodness she'd booked it yesterday and it became clear that I clearly need to get the queen to call my mother when she needs to do something.

Did go for a walk today, mostly not-with my mother & her friend. I mostly walked about 50+ yards in front of them but we did converge twice when looking for hares because it's impossible to tell someone to look at a distant brown spot that may or may not be a hare when you're 50 yards apart! It's the first time I've ever come anywhere near breaking any lockdown rules in the last 11 months so I hope I'll be forgiven. The weather was glorious & very few other people were around.

Hey! Apologies if this is not allowed; I am posting here so as to avoid cluttering this section with a separate thread! I am collecting responses to a survey for a university project where we are planning the launching of a new platform dedicated to arts & culture reviews. Please spare 2 minutes of your time to help me out by letting me know a bit about your habits regarding arts & culture reviews; how easy you find it to submit/publish your reviews, and what can be done to strike a healthy balance between online communities (such as this forum!) and the typical commissioning process in arts & culture publications. Click below to help! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc8fRGbvJsmtnXvjrqqShjTzGsatuPNBlq6Dsec4QXYz8NIJA/viewform?usp=sf_linkOnce again, sorry if this is not allowed! Couldn't find anything in the rules!

Re packaging, our garage is now what feels like about one quarter full just of Waitrose bags!
Update on the external hard drive damaged by the lamp-knocked-over-by-a-falling-teddy-bear. I consulted my computer expert cousin who said it sounded like the casing rather than the drive itself could be the problem. (Consultation done via email as even though he lives just down the road thanks to lockdown I couldn't take him the drive to look at.) So I discovered that it's possible to break into the casing of an external hard drive using a kitchen knife! No stab wounds were incurred during this process. I'm now awaiting a hard driver docking station to arrive from Amazon to find out if my cousin's theory is correct. Fingers crossed.....

TallPaul Sadly not. Though in fairness, a career as a cuddly toy sat on a bookshelf doesn't allow for much earning potential!
