So, did anyone else know that Argos only allow you to use 3 gift cards per order online?
I did not. Unfortunately I found this out *after* I'd converted my shopping monitor points I've been saving for 3+ years into 10 X £50 Argos vouchers, so I could buy a new iphone online for next day collection in the local Argos in Sainsburys.
You can use as many gift cards as you want *in store* - as long as the stores are open for sales, which, obviously, Argos are not.
There is no way around this - you can't combine gift card balances, you can't use them over the phone, and you certainly can't get a refund for them.
So now I have £500 Argos vouchers I can't use to buy the thing I want to buy, no need to buy anything else from Argos, and no working phone (mine has completely died - and sending it off to Apple to get it fixed would cost me nearly £300, which is ridiculous given that the phone is actually considered obsolete and can't get the latest OS).
And the lesson is: just go to Amazon. Yes, Amazon are evil, but they're *efficient* evil.

I had a similar problem just before the last lockdown and had several Argos vouchers i wanted to use to buy a product and have it delivered. The website would not let me use all of them so I went along to the store which was open and a "jobsworth" security guard told me that I had to order online and then collect from the store. Would not accept my explanation. Eventually a staff member was called and eventually let me in to buy the item and pay with my vouchers. But all the time it was if they were doing me a huge favour in allowing me to spend my £400 with them.

Problem with vouchers, of course, is that they've already got your money.
Honestly, though, when you've made your entire business online-payment only making it hard for people to pay online is just mad. They've built this limitation into their system, they've known the workaround hasn't been available since March, and they've done nothing about it.
How many people are going to run into this problem over Christmas and New Year?! How many kids get vouchers from various relatives for Christmas that they combine to buy something in the January sales?

Did you catch the news headlines this morning, peggs? Seems you owe your mother an apology...kinda. Not toothpaste, but researchers at Cardiff University have established that, under laboratory conditions, mouthwash kills CV in 30 seconds. www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-54971650Perhaps you should stock up on lightbulbs after all! 🙂 There's no way if I burn her copy of the paper that she won't notice, perhaps I could get the dog to happen to it.

So I discovered a mouse in the bathroom this afternoon. Just chilling out, by the loo.
My day's going really well.

Don't you just hate the delay between finally taking the decision to buy something and being able to get your hands on it? On an intellectual level I know that the lockdown means that the Royal Mail 24 service is unlikely to hit its next day targets but I was still hoping.

This morning on the lidl app I got a stonking 25p off my next shop. Then I did two pilates classes on YouTube, free obviously. I now wonder how much more money this Yorkshireman will save this afternoon... My lucky streak just keeps on going... Last week 25p, today 50p, what will next week bring?

Someone in a tree, I suggest buying a lottery ticket and testing how far you can take this sudden winning streak. ;)

I had a winning streak on the lotto the other week. I won a whole £130 on the mid-week draw - which is the first I've won more than a lucky dip in years. Encouraged, I decided to get a Euromillions ticket for the Friday as well, which I don't normally do.
Amazingly, Saturday morning I get one of those 'news about your ticket' emails, so I logged in, all excited, thinking I was on a proper streak and might be rich.
I'd won £3.30.
(I'm not complaining - really I'm not!)

Well, I can't go to football and I can't go to theatre so, somewhat belatedly, I've realised ebay is the answer. Never in my life been interested in clothes but I have discovered the world of 'vintage' and 'new with tags'. I do feel somewhat silly for buying a size I hope to be in three months but it'll be great when it all works out!

Love a bit of ebay though especially as I've got it linked upto my nectar card (along with GWR trains)

londonpostie , if you're into second hand/pre owned shopping, I can highly recommend Vestiaire Collective.
My (twin) sister shops on it all the time, and it's remarkable what kind of stuff comes up under very reasonable prices. Also, it's a safer option than ebay, since they have an authentication procedure in place.

Wondering which era londonpostie has chosen, will be looking out for Austin Powers on my Theatre visits in the future. I have the opposite problem, have become addicted to virtual cycling on Zwift and have lost so much weight having to buy new 30” waist jeans, a size I haven’t worn for over 15 years, will not make the mistake of throwing anything away as my natural size is 32” and will likely return to this size once my obsession abates and lockdown ceases to keep me housebound.

@neilvhughes: Yup, I've gone for the Austin Powers/disheveled postman crossover ..

I'm waiting to see what happens to prices on Black Friday - reasonably decent turbo trainer seems to be circa £600. Otherwise, I'm ready to go.
Well done you!

londonpostie always hated indoor training but had heard so much good vibes about Zwift and did not want to lose my outdoor fitness developed in lockdown Pt1 and invested in a smart trainer in August. Have not looked back since, have ridden 2,600 virtual Km’s since late August and now averaging over 200Km a week and regularly doing 2hr indoor rides at the weekend at an intensity which would be impossible to maintain outside and unthinkable on a dumb trainer. The drive of keeping up with hundreds of other riders just makes you dig in and continue to the end of the group ride and the realism of the smart trainer is surprisingly good and using my AppleTV and a cheap 32” TV makes it extremely immersive. My road bike is now permanently attached to the trainer and now only ride my Brompton when I fancy some fresh air. The spend that would have been on Theatre this year has mainly been spent on my indoor cycling set up and so far been well worth it.

Indoor training was bloody awful until Zwift transformed everything!
When I last had a gym membership it was almost entirely becasue of spin classes so I am slowly convincing myself that, if something pops up on Black Friday, I can justify it .. Needs to be a proper bargain though ...

I'm finding social distancing rather painful currently. While out walking on Sunday I stood on a bramble when getting as far as possible off a path while passing other people & got a long cut on my right leg. Two similar incidents on today's walk have added another cut on my right leg & 2 cuts on my left leg. Oddly, there doesn't seem to be any damage to my walking trousers, just to me underneath!

As I read through I was wondering if you were one of those 'people in shorts still!', obviously not. Got caught in brambles in the weekend whilst wearing waterproof trousers and coat but the kind brambles like to eat for breakfast, in more normal times I'd have been in waxed over clothes and whilst looking pretty terrible would not have worried about the pesky things getting through. My young niece and nephew will point and say ow whenever they see a bramble or a thistle, no matter how safe a distance it is, though to be fair the smaller you are the harder they are to navigate. Trust tomorrow will be a less thorn filled day Dawnstar

Clothing for dealing with brambles (and I include gardening gloves in this) seems to be designed to be sturdy enough to give you confidence without quite managing to prevent you getting torn to shreds. Sometimes it will even capture a thorn or two so it can give you an unexpected scratch long after you thought the danger had passed.

I don't even know what 'walking trousers' are ... goes to ebay >>> Um, trousers designed for walking basically. They come on various styles but fabric that is breathable & water resistant plus plenty of pockets are common features. Trust tomorrow will be a less thorn filled day Dawnstar I only wear shorts when it's over 20 degrees & then it's usually too hot for me to be prepared to go walking! I have spotted a couple of men - it's always men - in shorts in the last few days though. I hope so because at this rate I'll be running out of skin on my lower legs. I also fear leg shaving is going to be tricky & painful for the next few days! Unfortunately my walking clothing isn't designed for dealing with brambles so it's not that it lulls me into a false sense of security. Basically I'm so paranoid about keeping as far away from other people, especially if they are walking dogs because I'm scared of dogs, as possible that I will get as far off any path as possible without actually climbing trees. Today I was going into ditches & up on banks.

Christmas decoration seems to be in full swing. Both in the lab where I work and in a few houses around by me are getting into the festive spirit early this year with the lights and decorations being displayed already. Thankfully non of the houses by me are lit up like Blackpool illuminations yet. With the way this year has gone, I think people can be forgiven for getting into the spirit very early this year.

I just give the brambles a firm whack with my walking pole when they're a bit too close to the path. Same with nettles. You know they'll be back regardless...
