Have hurt my back somehow and had a massive row with my mother, just what you want as you go back into home working and lock down again!

Cut her a bit of slack. You can vent here. It was more the consequence of the row was being treated as non existent, 4 days in she has finally cracked and acknowledged my presence and spoken, i think as she wanted to talk about possibly getting now Christmas lights so thank goodness for that! Venting here much safer option in future, please remind me to just appear to agree with all things in future no matter how much i disagree.

So, is anyone else just feeling enormously stressed today by all the stuff that is totally out of their control?

So, is anyone else just feeling enormously stressed today by all the stuff that is totally out of their control? I'm worrying about the US election, despite not being in the US and not knowing what the long-term outcome of either candidate being elected will be. I don't think I can take another four years of Trump's smug you-can't-touch-me corruption and the tantrums he throws whenever he doesn't get his way.

Wouldn't it be lovely to not wake up each morning to another slew of terrible news stories about all the things he has said/tweeted/done? Can we please go back to American politics being enormously boring, and not overtaking our entire news cycle?

My brain is struggling to understand how anyone with any level of social conscience whatsoever could vote for Trump. I know that's harsh and possibly un-Christian of me, but voting for Trump certainly isn't a Christian act.

Hi team have very good data mining and targeting - they micro-target specific groups with specific messages. And they tend to be low-information voters to start with - so they're not paying attention to the bigger picture, they're only seeing messages specifically designed to appeal to them. Plus, some people are actually pretty selfish - even the ones who claim to be Christian - and only care about what directly affects them.

I guess it is just a sad indictment of how selfish many people are and how little they care about social justice. Of course people are entitled to want to be comfortable and better themselves, but thinking about others should rank higher up the priority list than clearly it does. The same can be said of many voters here and elsewhere in the world, of course, but it is still so depressing.

After watching the Trump Show series, I find it amazing that he can be so popular and people actually believe what he says. The fact that christian groups support him I find astounding. We thought politics here can be bad, but I genuinely think that most politicians here do actually care about the electorate and are trying to make a difference.

Went to bed early this morning (2:30am) quite depressed as learned that Ohio and North Carolina is going to remain Republican. Normally fall asleep with radio on because of my tinnitus (too many musicals!!!) But turned the radio off as tinnitus is more preferable than hearing buffoon is going back into the Oval office.
Woke up depressed as I expected to see that Trump had reached the magical 270, learned he hadn't and perked up a bit when I found out it is still not a done deal, then saw how far trump was ahead in Pennsylvania*, mood fell again - then saw the possible paths being that Biden doesn't have to win Penn, the buffoon can have it, as long as Biden wins Arizona, Nevada, Michigan & Wisconsin**, which Biden is on course to win all four.
*Biden is 400k votes behind in Pennsylvania, with a lot of votes to be counted in the Philadelphia area and postal votes, that is the long. Biden can easily win this state, that is the short.
**Wisconsin is all but won.

When Michigan went blue and Biden had more votes was a magical thing. You could hear the roar coming across the Atlantic with that one

Employment Opportunity
The White House is in urgent need of someone to follow the President around and pick up the toys he keeps throwing out of his pram. This is a full time position of 40 hours per week with a further 16 hours on call at weekends. Prior experience of working with toddlers, the mentally impaired or bovine excrement will be an advantage, as will the ability to play dumb so as not to embarrass the poor dear.
Salary: $200 / hour. You'll earn it.
Benefits: None, because America.
Availability for immediate start is essential.
People with foreign-sounding names need not apply.

Maybe the phone company can bring in a very much more complicated verification system so he won’t be able to fathom out what to do. Works with me.....

Not enough hours is it? Twenty four hour position this, Trump is tweeting through the night. Shared position this one

Turns out the very generous person who sent me several birthday presents had sensibly included Christmas with them, in my excitement I missed that and opened them all.

I really can't work out what the Trump campaign is up to. Do they think if they make enough of a fuss Trump will have to be president no matter what the votes say? Are they trying to create civil unrest to destroy the country on the basis of "If we can't have it no one can"? Has Trump led such a privileged life that he simply can't accept that it's possible to legitimately not get everything he wants (but if so why is his campaign backing him up in that delusion)?
Republicans in general have started to weird me out something chronic. It wasn't like this in the Bush years, but for the last decade there seems to be no limit to what "liberals" are apparently capable of when it comes to batsh*t insane conspiracies. Where did the right-wing sanity go?

Where did the right-wing sanity go? Yes. Seriously, though, there were always two options with this crew: 1. No actual plan, making to up as they went along to satisfy the whims of the narcissist-in-chief 2. Long term plan of a fascist takeover of America via packing the courts so that election results can be overturned, democracy undermined, and Trump turned into a dictator for life like the hard-man autocrats he so admires. No-one actually knows which of them is happening, it’s possible that some in the administration want 2 but are actually hindered by 1 also being true.

@thematthew, I keep wondering the same thing, but - based on his strange behaviour - I think I've more or less concluded he is simply a terrible loser and an unstable person. I see no other explanation for this that would make even the slightest bit of sense. (Why nobody within his team pulls the occasional emergency brake is beyond me too.)
But it is truly unsettling how the elections have highlighted such an enormous polarisation of the US electorate, that has made civil unrest a possibility, and even a feared probability. Whoever does win the coveted seat in the end will have a lot to think about and (hopefully) address.

I'm hoping for another day when it looks like no further declarations.... then Penn and Georgia both come in together. On Tucker Carlson's Fox News shift
