You never know what overly zealous filtering is going to do on the Internet. (The other day I saw someone fall foul of a filter by typing "... had a go".) I used to work for an internet travel site and when we opened a message board section, we developed a database of naughty words and phrases to block. I was head of QA, so I got to test it by writing profane/obscene comments to make sure it worked properly. (I had to ask what a couple of the words meant... and received something of an education.)

kathryn depending on your position this could be an opportunity. Be positive and supportive, get involved in the roadmap, support the identification of the skills and processes that are being outsourced and support the training of the new team. This is a tough ask but your current employer may find new areas in your skill set, project management, process mapping, an excellent trainer........ which could open new opportunities with your current employer or open opportunities with the outsourcing company. I have used similar positions in my career to build my experience and find new opportunities, it is going to happen so jump in and see where it takes you. Hopefully in a years time the job market will have improved and your experience during the year can be used as the springboard to your next challenge. They did send out job descriptions for the new roles that they'll be creating to deal with working with the suppliers and there's one that I could possibly apply for. I do a lot of the process and project stuff, and training, already. I'm thinking about it. Will have to also have a look around at what else is out there, I think. I'm just not entirely sure I want to stay with the company - a year ago we had a department of 30 here, 20 in the US, and 90 in India. Now we're down to 18 here, 10 in the US. We've just about adjusted to that change. Under the new structure we'll probably have 20 globally, at most. Mind you, hardly anyone in the industry works differently.

The house still smells very strongly of bonfire. My mother is brushing her teeth extra to keep covid at bay but not washing her hands when she returns from shops etc. Weirdly enough there is a correlation between oral hygiene and health - specifically heart disease. No-one is quite sure what the causal link is, mind - but it's strong enough that water companies can sell data on water usage to insurance companies in the US. Apparently you can tell if people are brushing their teeth regularly if you're monitoring water usage.

kathryn wanted to provide a positive scenario, you will make the right decision, if your decision is to leave, make it sooner rather than later and make sure you do it with surgical precision making sure you modify your CV to represent your suitability against the job description and you can demonstrate it in an interview. (Make sure the key words are in your CV as many are filtered for them before making it to a person for review) A chore but finding a job is in reality a job in itself and better to focus on a few with plenty of specific focus rather than just sending your CV out to numerous roles.

I'm still trying to adjust to the fact I've been apparently brushing my teeth wrong all my life (rinsing with water afterwards and wetting toothbrush when it has paste on it).

Ten blissful hours' sleep. 💤💤💤 Jealous. My neighbour decided that 22:00 was a good time to start drilling holes in the wall. As I'd been up since 03:30 I wasn't entirely in agreement.

At least you get an extra hour tonight, @thematthew. Unfortunately, so does your neighbour!

Been fiddling with my Excel sheet - five lonely booking remaining for 2020. A total of three for next year.
Upgraded a seat, refunded a bunch, it's all so sad.
The Bridge is still assuming full houses in February, others in April. Goodness knows .. *sigh*

So when you write the alarm codes on your hand as you go to lock up and then as directed sanitise your hands and they sanitise away the numbers......

Doing the rounds of local charity shops yesterday I got several CDs at 50p each including the Original London cast of "Marguerite" which I've never seen. Happy.

Hopefully a bit of good news today. My next door neighbour from hell may of finally left. Having lived next door to him for a year (he rented the house), I’ve only met him once but the amount of anti social behaviour myself and the lovely couple who live in the house next door to him have had to endure has really tested our patience (despite repeated calls to the police and environmental health). Fingers crossed he has gone for good rather than staying with friends.
I am trying to organise a last trip of the year down to London before Christmas to use up some of my annual leave. Simple enough I thought. Trains and accommodation sorted no problem. Got my list of shows together ready to book and unbelievably despite there being limited performances on at the end of November I still somehow managed to double book a Saturday matinee. I managed to book a visit to the SWP and Charing Cross theatre for the same time. Thankfully a quick phone call to CX has allows me to move that ticket to a Monday night.

Mark Gatiss still ranks high on the list of my absolute day brighteners, it seems: I watched him and Adrian Scarborough read horror stories at the Nottingham Playhouse tonight (via live stream), and it was superb! I thought they were both just brilliant! (I kind of hate to say it, but I enjoyed the two of them much more than "Bubble" from the same theatre last week. Perhaps it's the fact that I prefer imaginary horror stories at the moment, to the one we are all living in...)

Pleased you had a good night, Forrest. (Is good the right word for horror?) I would have felt guilty if you hadn't...even if you did only buy a cheap ticket. 😉 I don't know if you scour the TV listings, but MG's programme about Dracula is repeated on BBC4 at 10pm on Monday night. 🦇 That will be Scarborough and Whitby within just a few days of each other. 😄

Oh some horror is absolutely good, every now and then. And, of course, if it features Mark! :)
Thanks for the tip on the documentary, I've not seen that before.

Both Mark and Adrian were fantastic and really enjoyed all the stories. A great way to spend Halloween. I watched the James Graham piece last week (via the live stream) and whilst I have really enjoyed his writing up-to now, I really couldn’t get into this piece at all and must admit my concentration did start to wonder during the play. Thanks TallPaul about the BBC4 Dracula documentary heads up. I’ve set the recorder for it.

I'm really sorry Forrest and david, but I've given you both a bum steer! Right channel, right date, wrong time. MG searching for Dracula at the licence payers expense is broadcast at 9pm, not 10. I've let myself down, I've let Mark down, I've let the Board down... ☹

david Our impressions are the same regarding Bubble - I just found myself unable to really get into it and my mind kept wandering. I'm not sure how much Graham is to blame (I do like his writing, too!), and the two actresses were lovely: it might just be more the fact that it feels somewhat strange for someone to try and summarise the reality I am living in at the moment for me, and I didn't find myself gripped by it at all. Pandemic-themed plays might look better once all of this is over and we can look back on it with good humour, rather than with a sense of exhaustion. TallPaul, worry not, the information comes in good time! :) (I am shyly going to admit that I've already watched the documentary: I have access to a service that lets me watch it (legally, of course), through work, and I was too impatient to wait for Monday, plus will be in a regular Zoom workshop at the time it's on. It was an excellent recommendation!)

You're a time traveller, Forrest! What a gift to have, especially right now. I'm pleased it was an excellent recommendation. If it's that good, I should probably try and watch it myself, though on Tuesday, rather than tomorrow. I've always preferred the past to the future. 🙂
